Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Wears "Quality Over Quantity" On Its Sleeve Perfectly

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 may not have 100-hour content, but the brilliant story, refreshing tasks, and beautiful sidequests still stand proud.

BlackCountryBob548d ago

It’s bizarre to me we are talking about 30 hour games as short when we used to spend £60 on games that took 3-4 hours to complete for the SNES. 10-12 hours is short, games that take 40+ hours are fine if you like that but to me they would need to justify it with variety and creativity, not just repetition, fetch quests and stat hoarding.

I’m so glad Spider-Man 2 did away with the district crimes thing because it made the first game longer but not enjoyably so.

Yup its crazy. I think people just blast through to make a point. My runtime was about 45 hours doing everything. There's loads to do besides the main story

EvertonFC548d ago

Mine was 45 hrs too, agree gamers blast through games.

TheKingKratos548d ago

I am nearing 20 hours and i am not even halfway in the game

The_Hooligan548d ago

I am about 27 hours in. I just got done with the lizard battle they showed in the gameplay trailer. Overall it says I am 60% done. I have been doing all the collectible and side-missions along the way as well. I don't rush through the story line. One of my friend did the story missions first and then everything else, it took him around 30 hours to complete it all before the platinum popped for him.

Daeloki548d ago

Agreed, I think I had about 30h when I finally got platinum, and that was because I was hardly able to put it down. And while it was maybe a bit shorter than other games today, it felt weirdly refreshing to have a good quality story and smooth gameplay and being wrapped up in it for too long (although I will definitely have a second and plrobably third playtrough, especially once NG+ is added). Especially comparing to beheamoths like BG3, I mean don't get me wrong, it's phenomenal and I will be shocked if it's not GOTY, but I've got 200+ on it and I haven't quite finished it yet.

ChasterMies548d ago

I loved fighting crime in Spider-Man.

BlackCountryBob548d ago

Me too, but having to do the same 5 crime types in every district for Fisk, then the demons, then sable and then doing it again in each of the 3 DLCs too was a painful way of getting the platinum and gaining enough resources to unlock all the costumes and skills.

I'm worn out on 70-100 hour open world games. Hell, I spent 160 on Tears of the Kingdom. To hear that Spider-Man cut out a lot of the fat and focused on the important stuff makes me happy. My copy arrives this week and I'm looking forward to it.

senorfartcushion547d ago (Edited 547d ago )

It's because the economy for most countries is awful due to conservative policies, and the people judging quality within the games industry get their games for free from the publishers.

It's not so much a point people are making to insult Spider-Man, it's more a comment on what it costs to be a gamer nowadays. Call of Duty is getting the same treatment both about the length and (unlike SpiderMan) the amount of rehashed content.

I'm glad Spidey was the length it was - I have stuff to do. I wish there were more options during the endgame i.e mission select and change of sky colour etc for replayability. The game cost me $80 - $30 more than the remastered version did on PS5. Games should be made for people who only have the time to buy one game every few months.

Marvel's Spiderman 2 is a masterpiece

Can't wait for part 3 and i am pretty sure the developer didn't mean that there is no Peter Parker any more they are saying that from now on Miles Morals will be a main character just as much as Peter Parker in the upcoming games untill Peter retire

repsahj548d ago

I agree with you 100%. I don't want Insomiac to make Spider-Man until Part 10. Let Peter Parker finish his story on Part 3 and move on to Miles. Just hoping that Insomiac would consider making a game with long-range flying Marvel characters like Ironman, not just melee heroes.

TheKingKratos548d ago

They already said that part 2 is like Civil war but 3 will be like Endgame where it will have that epic conclusion so it's pretty clear that both Peter and Miles will be there for the ending

jznrpg548d ago

I like long games that are 100+ hours but I wouldn’t consider a 30-40+ hour game short at all.

jznrpg548d ago

I enjoy 100+ hour games but games that are 30-40+ hour games are not short. For an action game like this I think the length is just about right especially if you are like me and do all the side missions etc

-Foxtrot548d ago

I personally think there was far too much crammed into the story for it's length
