I can’t speak for anyone else but I’m having a blast with starfield. I’m 200 hours in and have barely touched the main story. It’s my zen game at the moment. I can see someone being bored with it, but I guess it was just a game tailor made for me. Can’t wait to play baldurs gate 3 though.

People can play any game for years.
I still revisit and replay the original Doom, Resi & Duke Nukem 3D since they were my first games on PS1.

Still play Oblivion and Skyrim to this day. People like different things and I'm sure there are players who like Starfield and not BG3, and vice versa.

Depends on what you want. One is a ton of RPG potential and different possible gameplay with different classes and expansive stories with companion characters. The other can be a lite-exploration and building SP game if you're into that (honestly, my favorite part of Starfield was collecting ships and selling them).

I'm not into building things in games unless it's like a city builder theme park type game. I didn't care for anything with the ships, and felt the exploration was lackluster. I was pretty damn hyped for the game to.

Starfield (28,456 In-Game) is not far from Skyrim (22,147 In-Game) for player counts and the games most recent reviews on Steam are at 53%

Baldurs Gate (93,653 In-Game) most recent reviews 96%

Starfield is unpolished, unoptimized, unfinished and broken, it's lost all sense of exploration and adventure from previous Bethesda titles and probably their most restrictive and linear RPGs, there is only really one story path to take. Most disappointing RPG from Bethesda so far.

Waste of breath with this article. These games have nothing to do with each other. Baldurs gate is critically acclaimed while Starfield is critically mediocre...a game that just barely makes it in every category. Fits right in with Xbox that's for sure....but it's also a damn shame. I was looking forward to playing Starfield for a long time if it was actually a Bethesda RPG. But it's really just fallout 76 in space with less bugs but the same amount of wtf moments.

Surely both will be played by those who enjoy them - and while it's obvious that Larian has outdone Bethesda by miles in terms of the total package BG3 provides, I'm still curious to see what the future holds for Starfield, especially once the mod community develops and evolves.

It's the cynicism of Bethesda that makes me mad when it comes to Starfield and it goes back to Fallout 76. It's like they have decided, "hey why bother making a full game? Let's just release a bare-bones version of what we always do, and let the modders and the players fill in the content for us." I mean, you saw it with Fallout 76. They tried to basically release a "template" of a Fallout game at first, even saying directly to players, "you make the stories." When players reacted negatively they said "oopsie, hehe" and put in the content that should have been there at first.

With Starfield, I see the same cynical pattern. Release the skeletal game, with the same old engine, same old "quirks" and with very simple, linear quests (for the most part). Because hey, "players will buy it no matter what." Bethesda doesn't think they have to innovate or strive to exceed players' expectations because the games will do well regardless. Profits will be huge either way.

And I say this as someone who is currently at the 100 hour mark with Starfield (on GamePass). It's a "decent" 7/10 game but it should have been so much better. Todd Howard made it seem like this was going to be something new, something huge. But it was just a trick, really. I hate to say that but it is true.
