I can't help but be amused by some of the criticisms of Final Fantasy XVI, which I've had the pleasure of reading. 'It's not classic, turn-based Final Fantasy...' 'It's more like Devil May Cry...' 'It doesn't feel like the old games we grew up with...' I can't help but feel every one of these comments is incomplete, missing the second half of the sentence, which in every case should be '...but that's not a bad thing'.
Final Fantasy 16 has likely sold more than 3.5 million copies.
This isn’t news. The analyst could be right or wrong. Square Enix hasn’t said anything.
Doesn’t matter. People will still believe the mistake. How are you an analyst and get it wrong?
Lifetime sales of Square Enix's action role-playing game, Final Fantasy XVI, have reached 3.5 million copies.
A terrible game, but good it sold well then they keep the franchise alive. I hope they do better next time with an RPG and not a dmc clone..
I hope this helps the 'complete' edition go on sale for a huge discount. It went on sale a while ago for only about 25% off but I'm waiting for that 50% off (or higher) sweet spot.
It underperformed because it was on less platforms I get no one wants to admit
That
Players just want to smash wild Chocobos into oblivion.
Final Fantasy 16 was a great game. It had one of the best combat systems out of many JRPGs. It does have some elements of it that could be better, like what the author of this article said. It would have been nice to be able to use fully transformed Eikons at will like in the previous games. I believe the FF13 and FF7 remakes were the last to allow players to do this. Let us hope FF17 will allow players to use summons at will.
POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT: There are some other elements story-wise that could have been better. I would have preferred if Clive was more militant, and he rebelled against the non-Bearers much like Spartacus. That would have had me more invested in the story than him not wanting to change the status quo despite the harsh treatment Bearers across the kingdom faced from their slavers. I also think the FF games in general need to start distancing themselves from these bittersweet endings and give us a happier ending. Yes, you defeated the bad guy, but what is the point if the main characters can't enjoy the victory?
Ff16 just didn't feel much rpg. If anything I'd say action rpg lite. Story was great it kept me into it. Other then that that's about it. There's those of us who prefer turn based yep and theres nothing wrong with that. As much as I'd rather ff7 remake to be turn based it turned out extremely fking solid being action. The action Combat in ff16 was just boring albeit not at first but it grew old. I preferred the combat in star ocean 6 in fact over it. Maybe cause in that you had a party you could cycle through. It seemed to forget alot of rpg aspects even Elemental damage didn't make the cut(wtf). Ff16 is a solid 7 7.5 imo.
The game is great. Haven't been this satisfied with a mainline FF game since X(or 7Remake if you consider that main line). Great story, combat system and style.
But that is subjective to my tastes so check out the demo to see if you're into it. And keep in mind that the performance issues in the demo are in the main game as well.
