wow what lol

so nintendo consoles will determine how the game runs then lol

Neonridr191d ago (Edited 191d ago )

imagine reading the actual article before commenting

"Phil Spencer aims for parity across all platforms, ensuring that Call of Duty players on PlayStation and Nintendo don't miss out on content or timing."

gold_drake191d ago

imagine reading what i said and actually understanding it, its ok reading is a skill not everyone has.

Christopher191d ago

You do realize that if all content goes to Switch then what is capable in the game will be determined by what they can make run on the Switch, right?

We're having tons of discussions of old hardware holding back games as it is and now people think a Switch isn't going to hold back CoD progression? C'mon now even a Switch 2 will only persist the issue of making games that run on last-gen equivalent hardware. That's 9 more years of CoD running at PS4/XBO levels. A decade where the expectation of advancing it won't be met.

We left other generations behind quickly but last generation hardware attachment just won't die off apparently.

Neonridr191d ago

@Christopher - the point is the Switch is in no way holding anything back. The game will still struggle more on that console than the other 2. Realistically we are talking about the Switch 2 anyways, not the current model.

Christopher191d ago

***the point is the Switch is in no way holding anything back. The game will still struggle more on that console than the other 2.***

So, you think the Switch will miraculously be the one platform that isn't holding back PS5/XSX? C'mon now. Let's not be obtuse. He's calling for parity and that parity will come with a new baseline. That baseline? Switch. And even the Switch 2 will be the new baseline and it won't be even close to in power as the current generation of home consoles.

Neonridr190d ago

@Christopher - the article literally says that content and timing will be equal. In no ways does it say performance.

That's like saying that a 1660 GPU is holding back PC development for others who have 4080s.

Christopher190d ago

***the article literally says that content and timing will be equal. In no ways does it say performance. ***

CPU specifically will limit what can be done with gameplay and game design. This isn't about graphics. If you think this is only about graphics, you don't understand how sticking to just older hardware has held back game design and handle elements. Heck, Starfield was designed the way it was because of old hardware. And the Switch can't even handle that.

Outside_ofthe_Box190d ago

People are never consistent when it comes to this topic. PS4 and Xbox1 holds back next gen, but the switch won't? The same people defending the series S and switch will be the first to say to drop support for the PS5 and Xbox series when next gen consoles arrive, forgetting that the same arguments they are using to defend the switch and series s can be applied to previous iterations of consoles as well.

Neonridr190d ago

@Christopher - "CPU specifically will limit what can be done with gameplay and game design."

so the multitude of CPUs out in the world when it comes to the PC side of things are holding back game development for users of the latest i7s or i9s? give me a break. Consoles are more PC now than ever, the only difference is on PC you have the ability to dial settings back if your hardware doesn't meet the criteria. On console it's a closed system, so no adjusting necessary (aside from performance vs fidelity modes).

Let's wait until the Switch 2 comes along and we see what it's capable of. The Switch isn't holding anything back because it isn't getting anything.

My original comment was literally highlighting the fact that nowhere in Phil's statement did it say that the games are aiming for parity performance wise or anything like that. It's literally talking about no platform having any sort of extras over the others like we saw every year with Call of Duty having bonuses for the Playstation. Phil could easily say "no early access for non-Xbox/PC users, extra DLC or content for Xbox users". But he isn't gonna do that, and that's what that comment was highlighting.

Christopher190d ago

Yes! Yes! Yes! This! I would say you're getting it, but you say this as if it's an insane concept. It's not.

This is why many studios move to use the lowest common denominator of consoles as a baseline and then increase specs on PC as necessary to match that lowest common denominator.

They're talking about the next-gen Switch, obviously. It's a ten-year deal after all.

jwillj2k4190d ago

So you’re saying a game that’s already in development is going for parity on a console that has no install base. Make it make sense.

RaidenBlack190d ago

@jwillj2k4
what's already in development? ... are you talking about Warzone? coz other than that, mainline CoD is a yearly release thing.
I don't support CoD launching on a Nintendo platform but also, we also don't know how powerful the next Nintendo console will be .... and CoD will continue to support last-gen till business profit allows, which i also absolutely hate.

Neonridr189d ago

@jwillj2k4 - we aren't talking about a tangible product here, like a specific COD. Phil is saying that moving forward all platforms will have access to all the same content at the same time.

RaidenBlack190d ago (Edited 190d ago )

First of all, by what he states, it appears his comment focuses more on, no exclusive beta period or skins/contents and hence content & adoption parity across all platforms.
Secondly,we don't know what version of the game'll launched on the Nintendo platform(which ain't happening soon tbh), so lets no jump the gun till that part is clear.
He says: "... and in the future, on Nintendo" ... so maybe the upcoming next nintendo console? Which is rumored to use DLSS/AI upscaling to perform somewhat close to the current consoles? So maybe he knows some infos that's not public yet?
I don't support CoD launching on Nintendo platform and also hate that CoD will continue to be a cross-gen title for some years ...

Trash across the board.

Good luck gamers.

VenomUK190d ago

Good guy Phil.

There is a risk that PlayStation and Nintendo might not get new Call of Duty games day and date with Xbox, or with all the same features. But Phil will save the day as he ‘aims’ for them to have parity with the Xbox version.

Crows90190d ago

Yeah. I'm glad you noticed he didn't say that they will...just that he aims... 🧐

Stanjara190d ago

What's a day and date? Date in a day?

Just say Day one.

Agent75190d ago

Sony pulls the plug on Spider-Man on Xbox, yet Microsoft loses sales with Call of Duty and Minecraft being multi format. I’m no business expert, but I’m now seeing why Xbox is crumbling under Microsoft’s feet.

bigfish190d ago

Oh dear, explains why MS is in the state that it is.

Barlos190d ago (Edited 190d ago )

Oh nice. So instead of being held back by Series S, it'll be Switch\Switch 2 that will be the limiting factors.

No doubt Spencer will backpedal once he realises that the games are being hamstrung by lesser hardware, just like he's doing now with Series X and S.

Mind you, I don't know why I care, since I don't buy CoD games anyway, and will now not touch any ABK games with a country long bargepole.

Number1TailzFan190d ago (Edited 190d ago )

To be fair all consoles hold back gaming to a certain degree, the PS5/Series X less so, but I honestly don't give a damn about COD, or at least haven't for a while. I played the first game on PC and some other FPS titles, much of COD is rehashed stuff and there are & have been better shooters anyway.

Nintendo should stick to first party games, make them look nice, make sure they run at a fairly stable 60fps.. and job done. IF they can get 3rd party games running well and looking decent enough then fine, if not then they shouldn't even bother.

Embracer CEO demonstrates a masterclass in mental gymnastics in latest interview.

Turned based Phantasy Star and Shinning Force remain at the top of my list of Sega IPs that need to return. At the very least I'd take a Shining Force collection that has 1,2,3, CD and the Game Gear entries.

FinalBoss7d ago

I was hesitant to put these two on. I've personally played more PSO than the RPG version. And shame on me, I don't remember much about Shining Force to talk about it properly.

That said, so many Sega licences deserve their place in this list.

jznrpg5d ago

A new Phantasy Star in the numbered series would be amazing. Shining Force too. But I’d settle on some collections as that’s probably the best we will get

anast7d ago

I don't trust Sega to do a proper comeback. The games will be just remastered and/or monetized to death.

shining force.

but indont see that happening unfortunately.
