If you buy a game, play it for 10 minutes, leave a review, then get a Steam refund. Does that review stay?

Sonic1881208d ago (Edited 208d ago )

Yup 😁 but you should be able to edit your review.

Stanjara208d ago

Yes but in red letters it says ''item refunded'' on the review ...I believe.

Class_Viceroy208d ago

Still doesn't matter though. Your review is in the algorithm at that point.

Class_Viceroy208d ago

Steam reviews are genuinely one of the worst ways to gauge if a game is good enough. Absolutely useless. People play a game for less than 1 hour and leave a positive review, and also a negative review. There should be a minimum % of the game required to play to leave a review, or a minimum hours played.

Honestly the review system is worse for games that are skewed more on the positive side in my opinion even more so than review bombs. All these indie games that cost <$20 people generally will buy and play for 30 minutes and leave a positive review and they become "overwhelmingly positive" and then are pushed out to other people to buy.

Just because a game is fun for 30 minutes, and from an indie developer, and is not $60, does not mean the reviews should be skewed towards 99% positive. Many of these games are not going to be for everyone and a proper review system would allow people to see that. I bet 80% of these people don't' pick up the game again after leaving the review.

Rizzgawd208d ago

Steam reviews are literally the best way to know if the game is good or not because it requires you to own and play the game. That automatically makes it the most reliable review system.

FinalFantasyFanatic207d ago (Edited 207d ago )

I strongly disagree, you can see "all-time" and "recent" reviews, and they both up as separate scores (technically, all-time takes recent reviews into account). Then you also have "Product Provided for Free" and "Item Refunded" in automatically in the review (reviewer can't fake/change it). I'd take Steam reviews over any other review system, the only downside is how good the customer is at writing a compelling for/against review for any given game.

Plus Steam has a very complex curation system that ensures that it's not trash appearing on the front page all the time, and that you actually have a good chance of find something you would like.

Chriswynnetbh207d ago

Steam is argurably the best way to gauge whether a game is good. Not only does it require that the reviewer owns the game, it literally shows how many hours they played. So when you're reading a review by someone with 300+ hours in a game you know that at least the person behind it has some idea of what they are talking about.

Smellsforfree207d ago

So if a game is really really bad I HAVE to play it for awhile in order to warn others? What if it is buggy af and I can't get to your minimum % required to leave a review?

Wasn't this being review bombed when everyone found out they would loose their progress at the end of each season

Kratos_Kart2007207d ago

Really?? Oh my...not picking it up now.

Gamingsince1981208d ago

I know, it's a bit weird to call giving a game the score it deserves "review bombing" , should we all review a really sh1t game high scores just because ?

FinalFantasyFanatic207d ago

I see this as an issue more and more, make bad game, gets "review bombed", it's even more infuriating when negative reviews are removed when they're legitimate reviews of a bad game. I'm pretty sure almost every review platform is guilty of that one.

DarkZane208d ago

Well, the game isn't very good to be honest, there is almost nothing to do in endgame. Diablo 3 was like that at first, give it a few years and it will have enough content for it to be worthwhile.

sagapo207d ago

I started season 2, the endgame got adjusted and should be better, more things to do. I’ll see it when I get there.season 1 endgame was meh. The adjustments in season base game are good so far imo.

PRIMORDUS208d ago

Blizzard is a piece of shit company, doesn't matter MS bought them. Every game that Blizzard releases should be review bombed. This is not a company you should give your money to.

Bwremjoe207d ago

I just bought another copy of Diablo just to piss you off. I love this game :)

What a great Month!

HB 2!
LoF and Hunti are all on my list!

romulus236h ago

Just recently finished playing Immortals of Aveum on PSplus extra, can definitely recommend it to those who like fps magic wielding type games, it's really good.

Elda4h ago

I own & played Immortals Of Aveum & Lords Of The Fallen already. The only game on that list I'm going to try is Hellblade 2.

H94h ago

Chants Of Sennaar is a favorite of mine, if you like to figure things out as you go, literally decipher what the hell is going on, play it it's amazing

Microsoft's Absurd Antics Have Me Scared For Dishonored And Arkane Lyon's Future

With Arkane Austin no more and Lyon living for who knows how long, the superb Dishonored is in serious danger; Microsoft cannot be trusted.

Relientk7723h ago

I love the Dishonored series so much and really want Dishonored 3. Microsoft better not screw this up.

JEECE19h ago

I mean, I think the fans will probably kill Arkane Lyon by cooking up reasons to hate whatever they do next without playing it. I've never seen a game so artificially disliked as Deathloop.

thesoftware73019h ago

Lol, why don't we just say, we are worried about all studios owned by MS now. They will keep closing studios until they have none left ...🙄

Skuletor16h ago

Just merge them all into a single studio, have it churn out a single Call of Duty every year and call it a day, lol.

Barlos16h ago

Don't be scared, you'll be fine.

Skuletor16h ago

It's exputer, fine is one word I would not associate with them.

Profchaos16h ago

I think it's becoming clear based on matt bootys comments there's no future for any IP that can't sell above 10 million within the launch window. But is also a small game that gives them prestige

/S it's beyond a joke right now

Xbox No Longer Has Its Head In The Game

Microsoft & Xbox have shut down Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks to lay off more workers, insinuating that they're not in the game anymore.

XiNatsuDragnel3d ago

They're headless for a long time because closing tango isn't exactly a good move

PapaBop2d ago

Ever since that cringe Kinect reveal they've never been the same. They used to make some amazing games and do great deals with third parties Early on in the 360 era they had games like Chromehounds and Shadowrun, both well ahead of their time. Now instead of nurturing their studios, they'd rather gaslight gamers and throw billions on pre existing studios. Not sure how Spencer is still in a job, I wouldn't trust him to organise a piss-up in a brewery.

Father__Merrin2d ago

We've said all along Spencer needs to go. I wish xbox went back to xbox only with new gears fable forza halo releases lots of third party releases

Those early rainbow 6 Vegas days and phantasy star universe are gone forever

S2Killinit2d ago

MS has its head in the game but the game they are playing is something different from what console gamers expect from a platform. MS’s end game has always been to use the xbox as a trojan horse.

XiNatsuDragnel2d ago

Lol that's funny well this plan they have isn't working homie

“Acquisitions always come with cuts”

343 trillion points shield activated
343 trillion percent damage negate activated
All damage reduced to 1 for 343 trillion turns.
MICROSOFT DEFENSE FORCE IS A GO

Tacoboto3d ago

Especially for Microsoft, when Booty pretty much said they didn't know how to handle that many studios.

Why even make the acquisition then.

-Foxtrot3d ago

Didn’t they make the swipe for Bethesda when Sony wanted like 6 months exclusiveness for Starfield

It’s like…chill, you got Rise of the Tomb Raider for a year.

romulus233d ago

Do they always come with senseless cuts becasue that's exactly what cutting Tango was, senseless.

H93d ago

Everyone's acting now that game companies care about games and Xbox is committing the Ultimate betrayal, they are all like this and you have just been quiet about it for far too long

Nuclearmoon3d ago

I wonder if Microsoft do pull out of the console market that it might open the door for valve to relaunch the Steambox. Competition is good for the industry but Microsoft don't even seem to be trying anymore.

UltimateOwnage2d ago

Steam / Valve are one of the few truly pro-consumer bright spots in gaming right now. Thankfully.

Jingsing1d 10h ago

From all the money Valve make from Steam they reinvest almost 0 into creating new AAA titles for the PC platform, Absolutely no giving nothing back in that regard. Wake up.

“Your game has won some pretty significant awards and is a show piece for where we want to go in the future.”

1 hour later.

“We’re gonna have to let you go. You can’t cover our 100 billion dollar acquisition. Oh and take your awards too 👍🏾”
