PS5 Slim Is A Lot Smaller Than We Thought

This side-by-side comparison of the PS5 and PS5 'slim’ shows how much smaller the new consoles really are.

Jin_Sakai569d ago

Nice. Idk why Sony didn't do a side by side comparison on their announcement trailer.

Rainbowcookie568d ago

Yeah the while point was missed and then people focus on the negatives .

Cacabunga568d ago

Reveal trailer was terrible, a side by side would have been good.. i searched for a side by side after that trailer i could find

TheCaptainKuchiki567d ago

because a side by side comparison would've been like admitting "yeah our PS5 was too big"

"I shall call him, mini me."

DarXyde568d ago

Sure, but with that kind of reduction in plastic and cheaper manufacturing process, I still don't understand why they refuse to cut the price.

It's functionally a price increase because you're paying the same for less plastic/metal (albeit 200 more GB).

I really feel that they didn't plan this out very well.

Jin_Sakai568d ago

Arrogance is why the price went up instead of down.

Grilla568d ago

They need to clear out old stock before they can drop the price.

The savings on materials for a smaller console on the manufacturing side will be tiny, almost negligible. If they save a couple of pence per console I wouldn't expect that to be passed on to the consumer.

DarXyde568d ago (Edited 568d ago )

To the people disagreeing, you might be new to this or too young to remember:

A slim console goes hand in hand with a price cut. It has always been that way. It uses less plastic and, again, the savings on the shrunken chip sets are passed on to the consumer. That's how that had always worked. Even the digital edition comes with an actual increase (not just a net increase). Why? Occam's razor suggests Sony is participating in greed-flation.

Historically, I've been pretty impressed with my fellow PlayStation fans for being hostile towards PlayStation when it is needed. I strongly encourage you not to let go of that. See it for what it is without trying to rationalize is: Sony's being greedy. Simple as that.

I do. Sony doesn’t want you to think about why the PS5 slim costs so much if it’s obviously cheaper for Sony to make.

Gamingsince1981568d ago (Edited 568d ago )

It's not though, it comes with a bigger ssd, which far outweighs the tiny money they saved on plastic to make it smaller. It's like 1 cent less If you're lucky, you want Sony to reduce the price 1 cent for you then ?

I can't believe we are already in the slim era. My life is moving too fast. It feels like the PS5 launched just the other day.

Crows90568d ago

It kinda did. There hasn't been many actual exclusives this gen...but that's also cuz all their devs were wrapping up or wrapped up most of their games near the end or at the end of the PS4 era. I suspect we're going to see more exclusives 2024 and onward.

sagapo568d ago

And it only goes faster the older you get...

Profchaos568d ago

Really does it was only yesterday I unboxed my PS4 but the calender says that was a decade ago hell same with unboxing my mega drive (genisis) to be honest.

Profchaos568d ago (Edited 568d ago )

Does feel like it and still feels like we're waiting for the gen to properly kick off still after only a handful of takes that can properly take advantage of gen 9 hardware releasing. Everyone's quick to blame covod disruption of the development process but I don't fully buy it

RNTody568d ago (Edited 568d ago )

I love this Slim edition and I want to trade my PS5 for one, but it's really stupid that a vertical stand is sold separately.

Plague-Doctor27568d ago (Edited 568d ago )

Just FYI the vertical stand is not required. The ps2/ps3/ps4 could all also be vertical and had optional vertical stands sold separately

RNTody568d ago

Oh! I honestly didn't know that. Thank you for clarifying - if it's just a cool accessory then I'm fine with that.

@Crows90
I prefer vertical as I like to display my console and don't want it tucked away in a TV unit. Just a preference.

Crows90568d ago (Edited 568d ago )

Vertical kills disks. I wouldn't do it vertical anyways...I'm going trade mine I for the slim.

jznrpg568d ago

I love my OG PS5 but I will most likely get a Pro and a Slim before the generation is over

PassNextquestion568d ago

Wow. That is a decent size reduction.

I’m sorry but pilot wings should be way higher than 50

UN Squadron, Stunt Race FX, Top Gear 2, Nigel Mansell F1, Rock 'n' Roll Racing, Adam's Family, Super Probotector. Top 3 for me, Mario Kart, Legend of the Mystical Ninja and Mario World. It kills me that the Mega Drive and Super Nintendo generation has gone. Going from a Commodore 64 to a Mega Drive and Super Nintendo, the much higher costs of games, I couldn't play them all.

NVIDIA Smooth Motion: Up to 70% More FPS Using Driver Level Frame Gen on RTX 50 GPUs

NVIDIA’s RTX 50 “Blackwell” architecture has been a bit of a bore for us gamers. Apart from Multi Frame Generation, which has limited use-case scenarios, there isn’t much to be excited about. It is achieved using GPU-side Flip Metering. The optical field data is generated using AI models in the Tensor cores.
