It doesn't quite surpass the original, because its deep focus on storytelling and character development at times undermines player agency and decision-making, but it does rank among the better modern tactics games. Review - Wargroove 2 strongly reminds of Advance Wars, and that is as good a recommendation as you can get.
Wargroove 2 is an excellent Advance Wars-like that brings new and fun gameplay features, making it a very welcome addition to the Switch library.
