I wonder how the gamers in Tokyo feel after Phil's email came out about how much he'd like to buy Nintendo.

XiNatsuDragnel641d ago

Nintendo is probably laughing rn since they're winning and doing amazing my friend XD.

fr0sty640d ago

"Forza is the best racing game. Sure, it has fewer tracks and no VR, but it's better. Promise."

Einhander1972640d ago

fr0sty

And it's cars and tracks cost money and there is a battle pass, but it's better.

IRetrouk639d ago

3 Mt's were enough to send this place into lockdown with gt, no doubt every dlc car will be an Mt in this just like the last forza, I expect the same outrage👀....its better though.

Abriael641d ago

I'm in Tokyo right now, and I can pretty much promise you that the vast majority of gamers in Tokyo don't give a flying F about that.

Jin_Sakai641d ago

Probably because the vast majority don’t even know about it.

badz149640d ago

they probably don't even know xbox exists

Christopher639d ago

What about a driving F? You know, because Forza and all?

Abriael639d ago

@Christopher: Sorry, I'm more into Microsoft Flight Simulator😁

StormSnooper640d ago

They are trying. they will buy anyone they can.

Jin_Sakai640d ago (Edited 640d ago )

I’m sure they wouldn’t want Nintendo owned by a Western mega corporation that can’t even figure out what to do with their own gaming division.

porkChop640d ago

Outside of places like this no one really cares that much. Anyone with some common sense knows it ain't happening. Nintendo's investors would never go for it, and regulators would never approve it. No console manufacturer will be able to buy another. Even if MS were to go software-only, with Bethesda and ABK they'd be way too big to allow that purchase.

The most we'll likely see is further collaboration between the two. Maybe a bespoke version of Game Pass to stream games that otherwise aren't available for purchase on Nintendo systems. Or maybe Nintendo will use Azure to revamp its online infrastructure.

S2Killinit640d ago

Fu€k spinster and his company

StormSnooper640d ago

at this point, I don't blame you. MS really showed us they cannot be trusted.

raWfodog639d ago

I’m surprised more people didn’t comment on his confirmation of Game Pass price hikes. Maybe because we all know price hikes are inevitable for these subscription services.

Here's a gem

"First, regarding PC Game Pass, since it is on the same PC platform as Steam, we believe that it provides users with a choice. The choice of which library to build is left to the user's discretion."

I've heard this term before from him..."build a library"

Only your comparing steam to gamepass. On gamepass once you stop paying your library is gone so not really a library like steam which you can always go bac, to play your purchases built over thr years, without paying a penny more.

Saying gamepass is a library implies this, but as we know, it's nothing like this.

Keep using this word 'library' sits wong with me.
It's a collection. A library in something you can reference and go back to to look at your dusty booka you loved as a child. With gamepass m$ can yank any title, at will and throw it in the bin,

No one would do that in my library.!

ApocalypseShadow641d ago

Of course. With Phil it's 10 percent truth and 90 percent lie.

It's like you said, stop paying and you play nothing because with game pass, you own nothing. There's no library.

Only truth was that it's on PC and a choice between it and Steam.

Lightning77640d ago

You mean like how all Subscriptions work? You think you get to keep all those PSN+ games after you unsubscribe? Netflix Hulu, you still think you get to watch movies after unsubscribe?

"Only truth was that it's on PC and a choice between it and Steam."

Which is exactly what he just said and exactly what he meant. Congrats you read it but failed the comprehension (so close). Either have GP library or build it on PC or steam since games hit day one their.

Sonic1881640d ago

5 percent truth and 95 percent lie. But Jim Ryan lies a lot too. They both can go imo

Lightning77640d ago

Gee it's almost like Xbox games release on Steam day and date and ppl can build their xbox games library on Steam. A choice of which library to build. Either on GP in which yes you pay for or Steam a PC games platform where they pay full price for games.

That was easy another failed gotcha moment on your part.

purple101640d ago

Gamepass is not a library in the true honest sense though. That's why it sits wrong with me.. your steam library is a library though.. point still stands.

Lightning77640d ago

Being concerned over what's a library and what's not in your own weird definition is weird thing to be "concerned" about.

You're just doing what you always do Complain just to complain about absolutely nothing at all.

purple101640d ago

Library definition

COMPUTING subsect:

"a collection of programs and software packages made generally available, often loaded and stored on disk for immediate use."

640d ago
Julion0715640d ago

Agree that’s all they do

outsider1624640d ago

He's right though. GP isnt a library. PS plus as well. They're just collections. Only steam is because you can go back and forth to download your games which you bought without having to worry about them leaving from your library.

Popsicle640d ago (Edited 640d ago )

I have rented books from the library. GamePass is similar in that it is a rental service, no?

Chevalier640d ago

Except library books are free and available to everyone. Gamepass isn't available to everyone and cost money. So not the same.

Profchaos640d ago

Will the library take away books after 6 months because the contract with the book publisher has lapsed.

Popsicle639d ago (Edited 639d ago )

@Chevalier checking out books at the library is not free. The library, library services, and books are funded by tax payers in the community.

The thought process you just presented is similar to the people that consistently say they are going to wait for a game when it is released for free on GamePass. Almost as if they forget they are paying for GamePass, GamePass services, and the games in the library.

Both services cost money and eventually I have to return my book or game because despite paying in, I do not own either.

PhillyDonJawn640d ago

It is a library, you sound ridiculous

S2Killinit639d ago

I can fix this. Gamepass is a library card. Not a library.

Profchaos640d ago

I think the catch is you can buy the same PC games from the windows store and access them via the Xbox app however when dealing with windows apps they are a huge pain and may aswell be running games for windows live I consider the Xbox app the modern equivalent because Microsoft never abandons ideas it tries to trojan horse it another way

ChasterMies640d ago

Microsoft can easily market PC GamePass to new PC gamers who don’t have a Steam library. But what will really move the needle for Game Pass subscribers is forcing Game Pass on folks who want to play Call of Duty, Diablo, etc. That’s the end game for Microsoft,

VincentVanBro639d ago

Also, even if you continue paying, Game Pass titles are rotated into and out of availability. So, "library" isn't even close to an appropriate term.

Popsicle639d ago

Not true. Libraries are typically publicly funded and with expansion often being too cost prohibitive, they will sell or donate less popular literary works to make room for new literary works. This is a necessity seeing that shelf space is not unlimited.

VincentVanBro637d ago

@Popsicle hilarious that you would equate Game Pass to a public library. Not even remotely similar. Keep sucking that MS teat.

purple101641d ago

"No. That's not it. What we want to offer is choice. Xbox isn't just about Xbox Game Pass."

Yeh that's why you release a console with no disk, and now another one leaked

isarai641d ago

Not to mention he literally said if Gamepass number don't improve significantly by 2027 MS will pull out of the gaming business and dissolve XBOX all together.

Plague-Doctor27640d ago

I think this is very unlikely even if they don't hit their targets, but them leaving would be terrible for the industry. Shame they are gambling everything on a very high risk subscription model

640d ago
Profchaos640d ago

Sure there's a choice buy digitally at our prices or subscribe to a service where we may pull your access at any given time also remember don't swear or do anything to violate our tos as we can ban you for anything we now seem offensive and we're listening

aconnellan640d ago

Doesn’t PS5 have a digital only version as well? What does that have to do with Game Pass

Profchaos640d ago

Sure does and comment still stands digital only systems lock gamers into a walled garden be it PlayStation or Xbox. You're at the mercy of the digital store pricing and connectivity which as we know can mean outages

Destiny1080641d ago (Edited 641d ago )

i don't know who should be more worried, after that pathetic leak, phil or the xbox fanboys

next year when xbox is releasing its all digital nightmare, sony will have somehow doubled the power of the PS5 and showing jaw dropping uncharted footage

XiNatsuDragnel641d ago

Sony is actually got ideas but xbox I'm not very sure.

Sharky231640d ago

Xbox will just through money around like the soulless company they are.

Profchaos640d ago

Jim Ryan's leadership has me pretty concerned tbh I don't think he has the PS community's best interest in mind.
PS plus price jacking (from what I understand this is how they have been acke to reduce the cost of a ps5 system)
Barebones psvr2 support which relied solely on third parties
Investing a huge portion of the budget in gaas titles despite the community heavily favouring narrative driven experiences

PS was untouchable under Shawn laydon they need to go back

VariantAEC639d ago

@Profchaos
Aside from the price hikes coming earlier on PS... only for everyone to follow anyway including Nintendo who has massive prpfit margins.
What has Jim Ryan done that is so darned bad?

Name one thing. Just one.

Sony is all-in on PlayStation Plus, says its most expensive tier is thriving

CrimsonWing6921h ago

Glad, I’m about to downgrade when they raise the price. For me, I don’t really access much or care about the games they have in the library and if I do, it’d be cheaper to just buy them over time rather than stick to some expensive subscription model.

crazyCoconuts19h ago

When you're new to the service you've got an avalanche of games to play. After you catch up, I agree, it's not worth it beyond the Essential tier for me.
That being said, the Essential tier is the best deal in console gaming imo, based on the monthly games you get to keep.

Profchaos13h ago

Yeah same will be downgrading $214 aud is insane and we don't even get the streaming capabilities in Australia which they said would make the top level subscription cheaper.

If i was to just buy the games I actually play that come to the service id be far better off.

Ill keep the essential tier to retain the games ive collected since the ps3 and for mp but I'm not convinced of the premium tiers value any more

victorMaje10h ago

Went back to essential a few months ago. I’m buying more physical and it has helped in finishing more games.

Profchaos54m ago

Tend to agree if i go to the trouble of buying a disc ill typically finish it

Alos8821h ago

Extra is probably the best value for money right now, Premium doesn't have anything special enough to justify paying the additional imo.

OtterX20h ago

*unless you have a Portal & you catch Premium on discount during Days of Play or Black Friday.

Yea, I really do wish they'd up their effort on Premium titles, but allowing a large catalog of titles that can stream to your Portal without even having to use your PS5 is pretty awesome. We travel about 2 hours to stay with my inlaws from time to time, so it's been pretty killer to only need to take my Portal for that!

andy8519h ago

Yup if you have a portal premium is the best tier for sure

KyRo3h ago

Extra has been getting worse and worse each month. I've had it since it's launch and it's been great to play some games I may not have played but the selection has been declining rapidly for a while now. My sub runs out in August and I'll be going back to essential. They actually add games to that which are more appealing.

jznrpg20h ago

Add some more classics with trophies. Vagrant Story first

OtterX20h ago

Nice choice. I agree!

Jeanne D'Arc was my favorite PS+ catalog title from last year & I Platinumed it!

Eonjay17h ago

I like Ridge Racer, Tekken and Grandia. Add Xenogears, digimon World 3, Classic GTA and ill be happy

jznrpg16h ago

Jeanne D’Arc was great!

@Eonjay there is a Grandia collection available for PS4, I’m not sure if it’s been on plus already or not

darthv7220h ago

cloud streaming to the portal, without using the ps5, is the selling point of premium to me.

Obscure_Observer20h ago

If the consumers are happy, Sony is even happier.

It is what it is.

True, they have pretty different audiences..and some People just have both at home or a PS and a PC that emulates more or less everything from Nintendo.

Knightofelemia6d ago

Xbox hasn't been a competitor since the XB360. Last generation and this generation Sony has been running circles around Xbox. As for Sony vs Nintendo Sony runs circles yes but I don't really see Nintendo as competition. Nintendo does their own thing and it works.

Lightning776d ago

Details are important. Console sales yes. Overall games Xbox seems to be doing fairly well in that department.

LoveSpuds6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

MS were doing so well that they had to start selling their games on their main competitors system which in turn results in around 30% of each sale going to Sony as the platform holder.

I do think tjat MS' fortunes will improve now that they are actually selling games rather than giving them away for pennies on the dollar.

Something that occurs to me is that the more success MS published games have elsewhere, the more stark it will become that selling games is much more profitable than renting them. If that becomes highly noticable, I wonder what the shareholders (who ultimately run the show) will make of a service which has stagnated for years?

crazyCoconuts6d ago

PlayStation doesn't compete with third party games, they compete on consoles. They profit from third party games. If you're not comparing consoles there's no point in comparing.

drivxr6d ago

Console wars are over.

Eventually, everyone else will catch up to this fact.

attilayavuzer6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

I think it's all PS fans have left at this point. Console wars were always a competition for fourth place behind Nintendo, PC and mobile. If Xbox evaporates into a hybrid virtual platform, then PS will be perennially left in last place.

Christopher6d ago

Strange, I recall all those FCC documents and witness testimonies saying the exact opposite... Guess Microsoft doesn't know what it's talking about?

PanicMechanic6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Great analysis. Just joking.

Pretending like companies give a f about where they “rank” against each other is just super retarded. This isn’t the World Cup.

Tell me, how does “PC” compete against a brand like PlayStation? It just doesn’t make sense at all. What you just said, is complete and utter nonsense

BlaqMagiq15d ago

I don't think PS cares about being in this so-called "last place" you came up with when they're making profits hand over fist.

microsoft wanted to crush sony into dust and they had the money to do it, but with such weak leadership it was always going to fail

Reaper22_6d ago

Had the money? They still have the money but the industry has changed since xbox 360. Microsoft is the number one publisher in gaming. I'd hardly call that failing.

IRetrouk6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

The industry hasn't changed though, just ms, Microsoft was the no1 publisher for a month in december 2024, the actual no1 for fy2024 was tencent if game sales are all that's being counted.
