Starfield Tops 10 Million Players

Bethesda announced Starfield has surpassed 10 million players.

Obscure_Observer220d ago

Another Milestone for the biggest game of the year!

Congratulations Todd, everyone at Bethesda and Team Xbox!

Snookies12220d ago (Edited 220d ago )

I'm 26 hours in now, and it's definitely been a lot of fun. Though, I'm already running across a lot of copy/paste areas. Like, even the items in the areas were in the exact same spots and were the exact same things I found last time. I feel like it could have used a little more randomization when it comes to the areas of interest you find. Surprisingly there really haven't been many glitches on the PC version, at least. I've seen a few bodies go flying for no reason, and some objects as well. Had one odd quicksave error too. Other than that, it has run pretty dang well overall.

ZeekQuattro220d ago

Yeah. I had it happen more than a few times. On one planet its a secret facility where scientists were killed by their experiments that broke loose. On another planet its the same secret facility as before but the scientist are killed by either the Va'ruun, spacers or pirates.

EasilyTheBest220d ago

Yea thats great numbers no matter how you look at it.
Definitely think this game will go on & on for years with all the updates & extra content that's sure to come.

Dazelya220d ago

Biggest game of the year? You guys are really believe this? Hogwarts Legacy, Street Fighter 6, Mortal Kombat 1, Final Fantasy XVI and ofc Baldur's Gate 3... These games are real "big games" not Scamfield. At the same time, Alan Wake 2, Spider-Man 2, CoD: MW3 and maybe Lords of the Fallen will also be big games. But again, not Scamfield...

InUrFoxHole220d ago

Look... he said it twice so it's funny now 👏

shinoff2183220d ago (Edited 220d ago )

Aside from maybe bg3 starfield imo is definitely better then every released game you mentioned.

To say scamfield is kinda ironic cause you listed mk1 , doesn't mk1 have dlc day of extra fighters. Now that's a fking scam

10 million is pretty good but two things it still isn't sales numbers, and the other is if there's 30 million gamepass subscribers or more. I hope a aaa game on gamepass can hit 10 million. Shit if Spiderman 2 was on ps plus day one I think it'd hit the same and it's only on ps5 not pc also like starfield

Armaggedon219d ago

Starfield is a big game. It terms of sheer size and content, it is the biggest game of the year. I wouldn’t call it a scam, as Bethesda has improved significantly on many facets when compared to their previous games. Also, they put just as much hard work into Starfield if not more, the hard work just manifests differently than what people are looking for. People notice the improvements Baldurs gate has made over Divinity, because it is in your face industry standard stuff: Better presentation, graphics and writing. Bethesda is lagging behind in these areas compared to tother titles, but Starfield is superior in terms of what Bethesda does best with their games. Its just that people dont seem to care about those things as much as getting a cutscene for talking to a random NPC. Thats why Starfield is so decisive. Those who recognize the value it offers think its their GOTY, those people are just fewer in number.

phoenixwing219d ago (Edited 219d ago )

@armageddon
Biggest in size and content? I think baldurs gate 3 has that beat. Unless you mean empty space.

Probably good for Xbox standards, but looking at Steam we can already see a big fall off in peak concurrents and Baldur's Gate 3 significantly ahead of it despite being out a month earlier. Hard to see how it can be classed as the biggest game of the year. Maybe the biggest of September.

Soulsborne220d ago

Going by achievement completion % on both platforms, its safe to say the majority of people hopped on Gameass tried it and uninstalled within the first few hours. Imagine celebrating ppl passing up on your game, right after the leak. Coincidence?

ravens52220d ago

Lmao. Your hilarious. I hope you spend as much time playing the game as you do defending it and ms.

andy85220d ago

Biggest game of the year? Did zelda and hogwarts and their sales suddenly not exist 😂

MrNinosan220d ago

Still talking about Hogwarts Legacy?

andy85220d ago (Edited 220d ago )

Well it sold a boatload and it's currently top of the sales charts, above the game that he says is the biggest game of the year so yes 😂

Barlos219d ago

Why not? It's not as if it doesn't exist just because it's been out a while

343_Guilty_Spark220d ago

Exactly glad to see Jin_Sakai play so much Starfield. He’s loving it.

Armaggedon219d ago

Those downvotes are furious.lol

Barlos219d ago (Edited 219d ago )

Biggest game of the year 😂😂

I think you're forgetting (or ignoring) the existence of Baldur's Gate 3, which is bigger than Starfield by most metrics.

Ah but it's not Xbox yet, so I guess it doesn't count?

Good numbers lots are playing it.

Sonic1881220d ago (Edited 220d ago )

Is it just me or did I read an article like this already. It feels like a duplicate news article that I've already read 🤔 Someone keeps posting similar news articles on Starfield

darthv72220d ago

Maybe you are thinking of the one where it hit 6m... which was a few days ago.

Barlos219d ago

Every time a new player starts Starfield they have to celebrate it as if it's the best thing since sliced bread.

TriniOutsider220d ago

Dropping this kinda news, right after their leaks.

Charlieboy333220d ago

Still no sales figures or substantial subscriber count increase confirmation. If those were good we would be hearing about it. So this is meaningless.

Crows90220d ago (Edited 220d ago )

Exactly. Infographics don't paint the full story ...these is an infographic stat.

No sales announcement. No concurrent player announcement. Nothing meaningful.

Just like getting powers in the game. Loading screen > talk to NPC > loading screen > land > loading screen > run to point of interest and fly around a bit to get power > loading screen to the eye > dock at stations...rinse and repeat.
Nothing meaningful.

What a fun loading screen simulator!

ChasterMies220d ago (Edited 220d ago )

Microsoft always touts the largest number they can support. It’s been this way since 2014. On the whole, it looks desperate and makes you wonder why they hide the numbers that matter.

Meanwhile, Sony publishes a monthly top 20 download list. I love Sony’s fearlessness.

Steam’s Refund Policy Change Won’t Affect You Unless You’re A Lowlife

Steam is changing its refund policy, but you probably won’t be affected

Should have happened a long time ago. People wanting refunds after 50 hours in game.

fsfsxii1h ago

Pc gamers will take this as an excuse to pirate things

KyRo1h ago

I'm not sure why you're getting disgrees. Whilst not all PC gamers are petty, an awful lot of them are lol

Crows9059m ago

Entirely untrue. Not any more petty than console gamers. The only large difference is console gamers don't have much of a choice.

qalpha1h ago

Daily reminder that 'TheGamer' is a corporate-generated, anti-gamer, anti-consumer, clickbait web site. They are mostly A.I. generated articles that villainize gamers. They provide nothing positive and actively try to provoke and divide the community through extreme view points and politics. Do not give them any clicks.

Inverno1h ago

Only scumbags? As if people don't play their games on console put in the most amount of hours and return it to GameStop and trade it in for another game. But also how many people are actually do this? And what games have been allowed to be refunded?

DustMan1h ago

You can refund any game you've purchased as long as it hasn't been longer than two weeks, and you've played less than 2 hours. I wish they would change it to 3 hours because some RPG's have so much exposition that you may only get an hour total of complete gameplay. That's my only knock on it. I've refunded plenty of stuff I was just curious to try. I typically stay away from Early Access titles which are the only ones affected by this policy change.

Inverno18m ago

Apparently early access doesn't count, only complete games with a play early preorder bonus.

Gaming4Life19811h ago

I definitely know if I want a refund in 2 hours.

The only PlayStation dev I care about tbh.

Inverno1h ago

Dayum did I hit a nerve. Sorry for not liking most of this gens games coming from PS, not really doe.

Cacabunga20h ago

Hopefully doesn’t take them a complete gen to release it

TheColbertinator15h ago

Good. Something not boring, not one of those "make your own game" crap and also on Steam would be nice.

Stopac13h ago

I too like to look for things in the wrong places.

"the capital group of PCF Group S.A."

If you're getting funding from a group that needs two different ways of Acronyming itself, things will not go the way you want them to.

banger881d 18h ago

If it was more online-only crap then good riddance.

jjb19811d 4h ago

Outriders was crap. They slapped that game together and threw in a loot system to get players' attention. This game was absolutely jank and the always online nonsense made it stutter like crazy. People Can't Optimize.

thorstein1d 3h ago

I liked Outriders but I could see where the artistic vision was compromised. The way the industry is now, it wouldn't surprise me that upper management would scrap something that didn't pull in money via gaas, mts, or other means.
