The Elder Scrolls VI will skip PS5 and isn’t coming until at least 2026

The Verge writes: "A document released as part of the FTC v. Microsoft case confirms what was long expected: The Elder Scrolls VI isn’t going to launch for a few years, and it isn’t coming to PlayStation."

If MS are planning for the next xbox to be in 2028... I'd bet ES6 to be around the same time. So 2026 likely isnt going to happen since they only just begun working on it.

Unless they plan on just reusing Skyrim assets and building up from there...?

Obscure_Observer590d ago

"Unless they plan on just reusing Skyrim assets and building up from there...?"

We don´t know much about the actual stage of development for TESVI. hopefully wi´ll be getting it before the next Xbox console arrives.

That said, to be an Xbox exclusive is nothing but expected since Phil said years ago that Bethesda´s games don´t need Playstation to be successful. Starfield´s success is nothing proof.

CantThinkOfAUsername590d ago

We do know. Pete Hines said right before the release of Starfield that TES6 moved from pre-production into early development.

If you're quoting Phil, keep in mind he also said that he doesn't intend to take established franchises away from fans, and that Starfield is a new IP with no existing fanbase so it's okay to be exclusive.

shinoff2183590d ago

Bethsadas games do need that though. How long does ms continue to put 200 million into these types of games and not get real sales from. Gamepass I probably damn near what it's gonna be subscriber wise. I doubt they ever get that number their looking for let alone even 50 mill

StarkR3ality590d ago

Oblivion and Skyrim were in the same console generation. Why not ES6? And there was a pretty big difference between the 2 visually.

When playing Starfield I actually caught myself thinking how a lot of the good things the game did would be incredible in a proper open world elder scrolls game.

MrChow666590d ago

pretty big difference graphically? you mean Skyrim has snow?

StarkR3ality590d ago

If you think Oblivion and Skyrim look similar I'd get yourself to opticians pal.

RaidenBlack590d ago

Bethesda's next game's usually iterates on/over their current game's assets/tech ...
So ES6 will use and iterate over Starfield's tech ...
But the scope of ES6's playable area will be much less than Starfield's

StarkR3ality590d ago

I think that's probably a good thing if anything. I enjoyed Starfield, but the more I played it the more I realised I was just using it to fill the elder scrolls sized void.

Profchaos590d ago

They have been working on the world and tech for years now about the years ago they dropped some info about their new rendering tool so it's but like no work has been done

S2Killinit590d ago

Fu€k MS. is my answer to all that. As if we didn’t know MS was going to do this. Im glad people learned this in advance considering MS wanted a double dip announcement. Its the kind of thing they do. What a horrible company.

StarkR3ality590d ago (Edited 590d ago )

Making a MS owned studio game exclusive to their Console and PC?

Yeah, you're right no one else ever does that...

At least Xbox give PC parity instead of these 2 year later second class ports.

S2Killinit590d ago

I was referring to the games they have been playing with acting like they were going to keep games on PlayStation, just so that they can later announce that its xbox only. They get double the exposure.

Also, f&ck them for doing what they are doing in light of released emails revealing how they are working behind the scenes to acquire even more of the industry.

Lightning77590d ago

"I was referring to the games they have been playing with acting like they were going to keep games on PlayStation, just so that they can later announce that its xbox only."

When did they announce the game was going to PS?

StarkR3ality590d ago

My point still stands though, Sony is doing exactly the same though? If it wasn't for a recently bought studio in Insomniac their exlcusive line up would be woeful. I own a PS5, I don't own an Xbox as a primarily PC gamer these days. But I have no problem in treating these companies the same, they're all as bad as each other. Sony these days are less consumer friendly than Xbox, but that's my opinion i know a lot on this site might disagree with.

S2Killinit590d ago

@Lightning
They’ve said it many times that they wont take established franchises away from consumers, or other variations or implied statements.

@Stark
Again, you guys making excuses for MS, its getting bad now. They will ruin the industry. But so be it I guess.

StarkR3ality590d ago

What excuses? What I'm saying is just reality, listen pal the sooner we all treat these companies with the same energy will be a better day for gamers.

I don't defend Xbox at all, I don't own an Xbox, I do however make use of their services and at the moment they're providing me more as a gamer than Sony. I haven't touched my PS5 since FF16 and that's the only game on the Console I've played this year. It's not giving me a great deal of worth ATM.

Lightning77590d ago

"They’ve said it many times that they wont take established franchises away from consumers, or other variations or implied statements."

You mean legacy titles that aren't being taken off PS? That's whatbthey said. Elder Scrolls was never announce for PS you're just making up stuff now.

1Victor590d ago

The way I see it with all this acquisition and billions spend on popular franchise that sale in the upward of 10 millions on consoles and pc making them exclusives to Xbox and cutting the PS fan base in the hopes they switch is a double edged poison sword in one hand they’ll get a few sales not enough to get close to those previous sales of consoles and pc then when they try to get back the PlayStation fan base they’ll be mad and don’t buy their games like they did with valve back on PS3 era remember the orange box and how it flopped then their next game sales was very low.
Microsoft isn’t independent from investors and by the time they see their investments returns going down on flames it will be too late to start courting the PS fan base. Personally I give it 7-10 years for this to happen or by the end of the CoD contract and their next game going exclusive to Xbox

S2Killinit590d ago

Not making it up. Their PR machine is so active that people dont even remember what lies they’ve been told

P_Bomb589d ago

“I don't defend Xbox at all, I don't own an Xbox, I do however make use of their services and at the moment they're providing me more as a gamer than Sony. It never has. You’ve got a paltry 400 trophies across 15 years versus a gamerscore north of 120,000. Like what you like, but Jesus lol.

The Elder Scrolls 6 will be a launch title for the next Xbox in my opinion (2027/2028)

ChasterMies591d ago

A next gen launch title or a cross gen launch title. Elder Scrolls 6 would be a waste as a next gen launch title when only maybe a couple million people will have the new console at launch.

Lightning77591d ago

There are no more gens. The next consoles will be more of what they're doing now. Even faster loading, stable 60fps with more 120fps games. Graphics will be largely the same with some things being technically better and efficient, more storage that's about it though.

If the new consoles aren't out yet then I also fully expect ES6 to be full cross gen I'll bet money on it.

StarkR3ality590d ago

@lightning

People disagreeing with you but is there honestly anything we have played on this current gen which wasn't playable on last gen that wasn't down to just the faster SSD's? I don't think so.

Personally these under powered consoles are the reason why Devs don't take full advantage of my system, so I'm not the biggest fan at the minute, and the gap between high end GPU's and consoles is getting wider.

Sephiroushin590d ago

@lighting77 bet you anything that it will be more 30fps and better graphics, not more 60 stable and 120!

StarkR3ality590d ago

@Sephiroushin

The problem is with consoles because you're so limited by the hardware, Devs have to choose one of either visuals or performance (some get the balance right but that's getting more and more rare).

You can't play trailers so most Devs focus on visuals which is what sells, if people are buying hardware they want the better visuals to justify this.

In my opinion consoles need a gen where the visuals don't move forward all that much, and every game focuses on 60fps till that becomes the new standard.

StarkR3ality590d ago (Edited 590d ago )

Just due to disagrees not that I'm bothered, but are you guys happy with shoehorning Ray tracing onto these underpowered consoles at 720p30fps like a lot of Devs are doing? If you're happy with that then sound, guess I'm the crazy one.

RaidenBlack590d ago (Edited 590d ago )

Have a feeling, ES6 will be the proper Bethesda current gen title through n through.
And maybe get a next-gen version later?
Starfield's not a true current gen game per se, even though it packs a lot of stuff for a Bethesda game. Starfield started out during last gen and was improved over to harness the current better hardware.

M3talDiamond591d ago

I hope there is a next Xbox hopefully Xbox doesnt turn into a games as a service rather than a physical console

TriniOutsider590d ago

That is where gaming is headed. Games are becoming a service and MS kicked it off in full with Gamepass and Sony followed with PS+ Premium.

MrNinosan590d ago

Do you mean that Sony started it off with PSNow, MS followed up with GamePass and the Sony then enhanced and change name of their service?

M3talDiamond590d ago (Edited 590d ago )

Probably why MS Decided to backpedal on their VR headset because it requires physical hardware and you cant play VR games on a streaming service they realised this a few months after announcing the VR headset for Xbox One X. They realized a VR headset would disrupt their plans for a GaaS. So get ready to loose game ownership in the distant future and pump mountains of your money into games like Elder Scolls 6. If you think you are saving money by paying a subscription think again I spent 2 years of my free time on Skyrim on the Xbox 360 but I bought the game once and owned it however if I were to rent it via subscription think of how much money I would have spent in subscription fees to dedicate 2 years of my time for just one game

Neonridr591d ago

incoming 6/10 review scores.

isarai591d ago

Ok, but weird they are quoting that nothing burger of a statement. I still don't get why they can't be as direct about it's exclusivity as they have been about other games including starfield. If it is then it is, I just find their language on it weird

PS5 Pro Is No Longer the Most Expensive Console You Can Buy

In the aftermath of Microsoft’s price adjustments, the top-line Xbox will cost you $729.99 in the United States. That’s $30 more than the PS5 Pro’s $699.99.

Mango Mussolini just made gaming more expensive for all of us.

gigoran81h ago

Microsoft last raised their prices in 2023. Should we have blamed the serving POTUS back then too, or its just corporate greed this time too?

darthv7215m ago

....does this pro price include the optical drive?

lukasmain8m ago(Edited 8m ago)

$80 digital games? Yep all Trump's fault. an old lady fell and broke her hip outside my house the other day and guess whose fault it is? You can connect the dots and figure out a way to blame anyone or anything. But if the economy gets better after all this negotiating in foreign trade comes to an end, do you think MS will suddenly drop their prices on games? HELL NO

rlow11h ago(Edited 1h ago)

No these companies are price gouging and if the tariffs never kick in, they’ll still keep them high.

What’s disgusting about MS move is they’re charging more for a five year old console. At least Sony did a mid gen refresh.

PRIMORDUS36m ago(Edited 36m ago)

The whole video game industry is turning to shit, too much greed and mass layoffs. I don't have much hope for the future of gaming.

Profchaos24m ago(Edited 23m ago)

They are charging this to spread the impact out. Given that Xboxs main user base is in the US it's not surprising they have had to increase the cost in the US vs Sony who has not had to alter the US price much as only a percentage of their fan base exists in the US as they are the only console in town next to the switch for most of the world

If the US alone absorbed the price would be far higher it's absolutely a knee jerk reaction globally.

Sony doing a mid gen refresh really doesn't matter as they have also increased the cost of the base model at least in my region the cost has risen from $750 at launch to $829

Switch 2 pricing took the cost into consideration I imagine the cost would have been $100 less had the looming threat of tarrifs and the poor Japanese yen been a factor

But at the end of the day it is what it is and we should just be thankful that we already own the systems we want assuming here you do as most hardcore gamers will have a console if they intended on getting one by now.

It's the next gen systems I'm worried about

PRIMORDUS38m ago

So they want to sell less, is all I see.

andy8537m ago

I remember the alt account trying to make fun of the Pro last week saying it's the most expensive console in history (it wasn't). And now MS decide to actually have the most expensive one in history that's just a base Xbox model 😂

Profchaos22m ago

Same deal with the switch 2 it's sad that people get so emotional over priced of plastic and feel these companies owe them

Marathon is doomed — ARC Raiders is already a much better extraction shooter

Windows Central: “Embark Studios' ARC Raiders is the extraction shooter I've been waiting for. Here's why it's better than Bungie's upcoming Marathon.”

This is silly. I think both games are amazing. Both games can be very successful at the same time and I hope they are.

z2g1h ago

I hate articles like this. “My opinion is all that matters. Click my stuff”. Both games will have their audiences. Some ppl like rock. Some ppl like rap. Not everyone is the same.

z2g1h ago

So we can we can see into the future now? I’m sure ARC is fine, me personally? Far more interested in Marathon. Between known Bungie’s solid gameplay and world building to the aesthetics and concept, I’m all in on Marathon.

jjb19811h ago

I played the Technical Test 2 earlier today and had a blast. I got thrown in an instance, saw a guy walking up some stairs, started shooting at him and watched him run for his life. It was funny until I got killed by some random drones. They're both different games and will have their space. Only the gameplay loop will tell.

pwnmaster30001h ago

Why do gamers/gamejournalist do this? We need to stop with all this doom article game shit.

lodossrage1h ago

windowscentral wouldn't have wrote this "piece" if Bungie was still owned by Microsoft.

And yes, I'm implying exactly what anyone reading this comment thinks.
