"Its launch sales are ahead of Final Fantasy 16 and Resident Evil 4, but behind Hogwarts Legacy, Diablo IV, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. "
Not bad at all for a new IP... and without Game Pass data.
Caveats never make a number look stronger. Even so, Starfield is hardly seen as a new IP by the gaming audience. Everyone knows this is Fallout and Skyrim in space. And if you didn’t know, Microsoft’s PR machine made sure you know now.
That does characterize your comment very well. And this is why Xbox doesn't get goty contenders. This is why they had to buy of all these 3rd parties...completely complacent fan base that defends any and all moves or lack of from Microsoft.
Starfield is ok so far but far as the greatest game..that's a stretch & in my opinion RE4 & FFXVI are better than Starfield far as gameplay, story, & graphics including both games load fast & no glitches. Starfield loading is horrible & I've experienced numerous glitches.
Calling Hogwarts a new IP is quite a stretch, no? I get it's a new game with no direct connection to any other before, but it's still another entry in the Harry Porter franchise, the one with about a dozen books and movies... Heck, it's not even the first Harry Potter game.
List more anticipated games then Starfield to be released this year, then tell me it shouldn't be up there with Hogwarts. Starfield isn't up there because MS banned Bethesda from releasing games on 80% of the EU console market, the platform that was Bethesda's biggest earner in the console industry.
"Starfield performed better than FFXVI and Resident Evil 4."
That's largely due to the fact that this list is tracking Starfield sales for 2 weeks (due to early access), as opposed to RE4 and Ff16 which is based on 1 week of data. So saying Starfield performed better than ff16 and RE4 remake is disingenuous.
I'm shocked it's only fifth, considering this is the most anticipated IP from a major publisher, people have been waiting years for this game. Shame MS removed it form one of Bethesda's biggest markets, what are the PS sales compared to Xbox in the EU, Xbox is almost a dead platform there! Just looked it up According to MS, they only have 20% of the EU console market PS has 80% (They didn't add Nintendo in their figures)
Guess the PC market is the only platform to save Bethesda.
...do you know why people buy specific platforms? Do you know why the only platform holder that doesn't make exclusives is currently non-existent outside of the US? Do you know why Platform holders make exclusives?
"I'm shocked it's only fifth, considering this is the most anticipated IP from a major publisher, people have been waiting years for this game."
No, you´re not.
I remember you saying how this game would flop without Playstation. How this game wouldn´t perform well on sales because of Gamepass been available on both Xbox and PC.
I also remember YOU telling everyone how you would not support Microsoft due its "villainous goal" of consolidation of the gaming industry.
And yet, you paid full price for Starfield giving Microsoft exactly what they want according to you yourself!
"Do as I say, not as I do", hu?
"Guess the PC market is the only platform to save Bethesda."
Another contradiction, why would PC be only platform to "save Bethesda" when you said MS´s master plan is to remove all of the Bethesda games from ALL platforms but Xbox?
In case you´re still in denial, Bethesda doesn´t need "saving" because they´re Xbox first party studio and I can´t wait for your next lame and shameful excuse when Microsoft have TESVI announced for PC.
Where did I contradict myself? Platform holders make exclusives to sell their platform, MS is unique in this as they decided to not make exclusive games but instead chose to buy up and limit multiplatform publishers from releasing games on their most profitable platforms
@Obscure_Observer
Quote me where I said the game would flop. I've said that limiting a game that was due to release on three full paying platforms will hurt Bethesda
"I also remember YOU telling everyone how you would not support Microsoft due its "villainous goal" of consolidation of the gaming industry."
Quote me where I've said that too... also how is telling people to buy the game on PC telling everyone not to support Microsoft due its "villainous goal" of consolidation of the gaming industry? You do like to make up your own little fantasies. If people don't support Bethesda guess what happens, MS carry on like normal and Bethesda disappears like other low performing parts of any industry.
"Another contradiction, why would PC be only platform to "save Bethesda" when you said MS´s master plan is to remove all of the Bethesda games from ALL platforms but Xbox?"
...you do know Xbox platform is on PC too don't you? It even has a storefront and service
"Quote me where I said the game would flop. I've said that limiting a game that was due to release on three full paying platforms will hurt Bethesda"
Just remember that you asked for it:
"Do you think that Steam, the only platform that Starfield is going to make money on outside of it's gamepass cut (which MS said is cannibalising game sales) will make a good return on the investment? It's been developed as a multiplatform title that was meant to be released on multiple systems, now it's only getting a full price release on one."
"Who's going to be Bethesda's saving grace? Starfield has been in development for a decade and if not for MS would have been released on three paying platforms, now it's got to rely on one paying full price to cover costs and to make enough money to fund future titles as I can't see MS pumping money into Bethesda to make up the shortfall... I wonder how long it will be before MS shuts Bethesda down absorbing all their IP's into the xbox brand?"
You said the PC would be *only* hope for Bethesda to make some money on full priced release for Starfield. You weren´t expecting Starfield to sell on Xbox at all!
And now you´re here pretending to be "shocked" because Starfield release on Xbox is "only the fifth biggest game launch in Europe this year" dethroning both FFVXI and Resident Evil 4, telling people how it should be bigger than hogwarts legacy, Star Wars, Zelda and Diablo IV, trying to save face.
Not sure how you though you would make such comments without come across as a hypocrite and cynical liar. Smdh.
"Quote me where I've said that too..."
"I'm shocked, this is one of the few times I can remember anyone standing against Microsofts anti-competitive activities... could this be a win for gamers against the cancer that is Microsoft?!?"
...is that all you have, me saying what I told you I said!?!!?!?!?!
Where are the quotes telling people to boycott the game, to not buy it, or that it's going to flop? Do you know what happens if people stop buying games as protest because of MS buying up the industry? MS will be fine, the publishers and studios they consume will disappear, you fanboys truly only hear what you want.
Tell me where I've been wrong, Starfield needs PC sales as it is the only full paying platform now MS banned them from competing console systems seeing that Bethesda's biggest release in a decade could only hit 5th on the EU top weekly sales chart is shocking, fifth is not a flop, but I would call one of the most anticipated game releases this year finishing fifth in is awful... maybe MS shouldn't have banned Bethesda games from Bethesdas biggest console market.
What the hell are you talking about? You never considered Xbox to sell full priced Starfield copies! Never!
Here:
"I just hope for Bethesda's future that people will pay for their products, ***Bethesda's gone from three full paying platforms to just PC***, they've lost their biggest console market and will have to share gamepass money with all other studios... and MS shareholders... also hopefully MS won't cut Bethesda jobs again like they did in jan due to the Azure service not making large enough profits"
You never, NEVER, believed that starfield would sell full priced copies on Xbox at all! I just quoted your comment as proof. You said Bethesda would have to be content with whatever scraps they would get from Gamepass.
You though you would get away with your lies, cynicism and misdirection. Flash news, you wont! Have some dignity for fcs!
You said you don´t support MS taking multiplatform games off competition platforms, that MS is the cancer of the gaming industry and blah blah blah...
Next thing you do is pay $80 to MS validating and supporting the practices you claim to hate, by telling them that´s it´s OK to continue to buy up more and more publishers, because you´ll continue to buy their games anyway!
You´re a walking contradiction, dude! Talk tough, but when the time for action comes, you bend your knee. It is what it is. You can´t make sh!it up.
Next time you complain about monopoly, bear in mind that YOU showed MS your support through your wallet!
@ob "You never, NEVER, believed that starfield would sell full priced copies on Xbox at all!"
It's almost as if you don't comprehend language and fail to notice connections and links with comments. I have never said that, even the quote you posted doesn't say that!!
Not buying Bethesda games won't hurt MS, it'll only hurt Bethesda.
Bethesda's biggest game release of the last 10 years, one of the most anticipated games in gaming only finishing fifth on EU's charts is bad, very bad. Those sales where effected because of MS banning Bethesda from releasing it's game on 80% of the EU console market. It would have easily beat Jedi Survivor and the single platform sales of Zelda

"no digitale sales available "
so retail versions.
i wanna see numbers for the list ha.
but i think there wasnt a huge difference between resi 4, ff16 and starfield. all three were hugely anticipated games.
the gap between zelda and starfield is definitely bigger than 6th and 7th place.
