This Saturday Sept 16th the embargo drops for hands-on preview impressions for Spider-Man two. Fingers and webs crossed that we might get to see new gameplay or images.

I get it and I sorta know what you mean, but if horizon is sonys rpg it just doesn't cut it for me. I love the horizon series it's fun as fk, good story, interesting, gameplay is fantastic. What makes horizon an rpg, the skill tree, leveling up? So many games have skill trees and leveling systems from cod, madden, nba 2k, NHL, Spiderman, God of war(?). Where do we stop calling games rpgs at that point.

Your comment about the Witcher 3 you do kinda make a good point but I couldn't tell you much about it. I played maybe 3 hours and realized it wasn't for me.

I'll be honest I don't really know the answer I have in my head, aside from saying horizon doesn't cut it for me(as an rpg) not as a game. Great game.

Maybe it's borderline because it doesn't have RPG elements that impact the story or dialog (like intelligence or charisma) like an actual role playing game would typically have. I mean, I love Horizon but I can see how people could argue that it's not an RPG.

Rpg is when you can choose your class of gameplay ( build) and have choices in side quests to gain certain advantages or disadvantages.

Horizon is not an RPG, neither is Tomb Raider or Far Cry or GOW.

So would you put Horizon in the same category as say, Uncharted or Gears? It might not be a full blow rpg a la Baldurs Gate, but it sure has rpg elements.

Shane Kim... I would say Horizon is an open world game where skills are put as an incentive for the player to explore the world.

This design is more close to metroidvania than an RPG.
E.g. you need some sort of a skill, or an item to progres further.
Double jump in metroidvania.

I like those games... My favourite genre. Spiderman...it's not an RPG.

Worlds are build with more quality and are more coherent than for example Bethesda and Cyberpunk when every 5 min something brakes.

Nah. They're pissed BECAUSE they're still not showing first party shit. Knowing beforehand doesn't change that. It's September and there isn't even a release date for Helldivers, barely any gameplay and it comes out this year. Nevermind whatever else their other studios are or aren't working on. They skipped E3 for years, PlayStation Experience isn't a thing anymore, yet they still don't show anything. I much prefer Shawn Layden or Tretton over Jim Ryan.

I continue to feel that, contrary to the earlier "the console wars are over" views, the PS vs. Xbox war is at it's peak. These exclusives are weapons and I suspect Sony is cautious about giving the enemy too much information out until they have to. I could be wrong...maybe there's enough corporate espionage and cross talk that they all know what the other guy is doing, but it kinda feels like information is being delved out just in time on a need to know basis

It's about time for Sony PS to start divulging some of their upcoming first-party releases. For this PS5 generation Sony has been too quiet about their first-party offerings, not participating in any video game events & their last showcase was a disappointment including some past State Of Plays weren't all that. I've supported every gen of PS consoles & games but I feel this generation Sony PS is being too secretive to their base/customers when past generations Sony was never like that. My PS5 is my first console to play out of the current 3 that I own & I want to know what's after Spiderman 2. I hope this behavior doesn't end up biting them on the ass.
