Starfield Exceeded 1 Million Concurrent Players on Launch Day

Bethesda's latest RPG Starfield has officially been released today, and it appears to be off to a great start in terms of player counts according to Phil Spencer.

Such an epic and amazing game!

I just can´t get enough of this new legend!

Congrats to Todd, Phil, everyone at Bethesda and Team Xbox!

mkis007313d ago

Hey go play it! Why are you cheerleading on here when there are missions to do.

Terry_B313d ago

Go through his comment history to have a laugh ;)

1Victor313d ago

Congrats to the team buuuuuut •••••••• read bellow and above comments.
I just hope that Microsoft wasn’t expecting the same numbers of players as the developers previous 3RD PARTY GAMES but let’s be frank they totally did expected bigger numbers 🤦🏿

InUrFoxHole312d ago

The same reason people made comments when GOW came out instead of playing it.
1. He likes the game
2. No one plays games 24/7

Naw going go back to playing Remnant 2 and get all the secret items and play in multiplayer fun!!! With procedural generation! And more content coming to keep us playing! Will play it waiting for MK1 and Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty with the 2.0 reboot. Then next month Spiderman 2 and Alan Wake 2 for me.

shinoff2183312d ago

Remnant 2 lol. Fk that whack multi-player sh. Right now starfield is definitely it.

Ashunderfire86312d ago

#shinoff2183

Remnant 2 owns Starfield for breakfast like a nice bacon and egg sandwich🤣🤣 9315;

Sonic1881312d ago (Edited 312d ago )

Its a good game. But you should play Baldur's Gate 3. That's what I call an epic and amazing game! A real legend and you won't be disappointed

shinoff2183312d ago

I'd love to if they ever release it physically. Until then I'm waiting on a super cheap sale. I don't like buying anything over 20 dollars digitally. I've got a backlog so I got time

Lightning77313d ago

That's it? Sorry Xbox fans that's not that great of a number.

https://www.thegamer.com/fo...

5 million during early access. Let me kill the arguments now. Yes Horizon 5 is not a new IP and a well known Xbox IP compared to the new IP SF from Bethesda. The way it was hyped only for it to do a million doesn't seem that great to me. That number will grow of course but starting out isn't noting to brag about imo.

While the game definitely has some big issues it's still fun. There are a lot of people I am seeing online in comments hating on the game but when you go on Steam it has a Very Positive rating from 21,000+ reviews so most people who bought the game enjoy it.

Terry_B313d ago

83% there..yup its good but its not a Skyrim (95%) or Oblivion (also 95% on Steam).

InUrFoxHole312d ago

Cool. Guess we can add it to the list of other games that don't reach that 95% metric....

shinoff2183312d ago

Yall put to much into other people's opinions. I don't put stock into many reviewers at all. I'd rather take opinions from gamers(not reviewers) who have similar interest as me(all you old school jrpg fans)

theindiearmy312d ago

If you go look at early reviews of Skyrim Special Edition, it was "Mixed" 59% on Steam in the first month. Oblivion Game of the Year Edition was "Positive" 90%. I'd expect Starfield to also rise as time goes on.

Profchaos313d ago

I've spent a few hours with it and it's ok personally but I'm not excited to go back to it like it was a new fallout. I'll finish it eventually though but I'm far from hooked

I have friends that love it but and I'm not hating on it but there's going to be gamers like me that just don't get the hype

Ashunderfire86313d ago

Play Remnant 2 $50 cheaper compared to this, and you get more bang for your buck! Procedural generation every time you reroll the campaign or adventure mode! Remnant 2 has the best kept secrets alternate boss fights based on your decisions. I even heard great things about Armored Core 6 as well too.

Ashunderfire86313d ago

That’s because it’s better on PC with higher framerate. If that was Xbox Series X/S that rating would be lower than that.

green313d ago

Do you know what is even better than choosing? Playing Remnant 2, Starfield and Armoured core like like I am doing

EvertonFC313d ago (Edited 313d ago )

Isn't that disappointing with 25m GP subs, I'm enjoying the game btw b4 anyone has a fanny attack@lightning77

Profchaos313d ago

Considering previous games sold 12x more on day 1 than this.

Fallout 4 12 million copies on day 1

Vits312d ago

@shinoff2183

Alright. Assuming that you understand the word concurrent better than you understand that "alot" is not a word.
Based on what data? What I have found points to it being quite a good result for any game, let alone a single-player title. If you found data points that differ from that, feel free to share.

Vits312d ago (Edited 312d ago )

That is concurrent players thought. That means that at some point there were 1 million people playing this single-player game exactly at the same time. Which is a lot.

To put into perspective, the most successful single-player game by concurrent players on Steam is Cyberpunk 2077 and it pulled a bit over 1M as well (1.05M). And 1M is also more than double what their previous game, Fallout 4, pulled on the platform. And to give further perspective even with GP eating sales, Starfield Steam's release was still close to Skyrim's 287,411 (269,177 for Starfield) and was larger than Monster Hunter: Rise, No Man's Sky, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Armored Core VI, Dark Souls III and the combination of Sony's 5 most successful ports (God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last of Us Part I and Days Gone) to PC.

But to M$ the success of this title will likely be measured on how many new subscriptions it bought to GP.

LonDonE312d ago

love your reply as its pure verifiable data- the narrative on this site is sad seriously enjoy the game or dont but dont keep trying to ruin it for others

shinoff2183312d ago

It's not really alot considering the bigger picture. How many gamepass subs are out there. A big aaa release , the biggest in years, 1 million isn't much

Vits312d ago

@shinoff2183

Exactly the opposite. It is a lot because we are looking at the bigger picture.
People just appear to have a really hard time understanding what concurrent means. That is not sales, that is not a total number of people. That is just the peak amount of players that were playing it a the same time on a given point.

Again to give an idea of what we are talking about. Fortnite has estimated (activeplayer.io) that this past month an average of 237M players entered the game, but their concurrent peak was 16M players. And that is a f2p game available on basically everything.
