Saying it's the beginning is dangerous. Now they have to truly deliver regularly and with similar quality games. That's a very high bar to maintain is Starfield ends up being a critical and sales success.

Lightning77338d ago

No not all games will be as hyped or as big as Starfield. He means in terms getting that one big game to lead the them into the regular cadence of AAA releases.

"No, but yes" is what you just said.

Petebloodyonion338d ago

Oh boy! Some PR ppl should learn to keep their mouth shut.

Obscure_Observer338d ago

With Starfield and Forza Motorsport, Xbox gamers are finally getting true current AAA first party games!

Jerret West also confirmed Hellblade II, Avowed and Towerborne for 2024, among other games they don´t had disclosed yet for 2024 and 2025!

It took long enough due COVID among other things, but Xbox is finally getting there to deliver a cohesive and consistent games output, genre diverse and high quality AAA, AA and indie games.

thesoftware730338d ago

The new E3 must be in 2 weeks or so...so not that long👍🏿.

-Foxtrot338d ago

Oh we still using the COVID excuse....

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH338d ago

What do you think that these games only take two years to make? A lot of these current gen Xbox games was being developed during Covid so yes Covid impacted game studios amount other industries.

-Foxtrot338d ago (Edited 338d ago )

Plenty of games released in 2021 / 2022 which were well into development during COVID if we are talking 3-4 years.

It's no excuse, the fact is they just didn't have much going on and by the time they bucked their ideas up the games take years to make. Then they bought Zenimax and Activision to cover this.

Games released in 2021 / 2022

Far Cry 6
It Takes Two
Psychonauts 2
Returnal
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy
Life Is Strange: True Colors
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
Elden Ring
Horizon Forbidden West
Stray
God of War Ragnarok
Splatoon 3
Kirby and the Forgotten Land
GT7

I could go on...

Lightning77338d ago

He never mentions covid, not sure where you got that from. But Those games you listed were far enough in development so covid had little impact on those games.

Covid aside allot Xbox games were still in early production regardless. Games don't take two to 3 years to make, obviously. Now some of these titles are reaching the latter half of development finally.

thesoftware730338d ago (Edited 338d ago )

Fox, you for real with that list of games?

https://www.ign.com/article...

COVID caused massive, industry wide console/hardware problem along with games in 2020, 2021, and 2022, thing gradually picked back up. 60+ games were delayed..you couldn't even find consoles at the time, people had to work from home, which 100% slow down game production, to claim otherwise is just plain dumb.

Of course games released, but to pretend that it didn't have a huge impact is trolling...it is a known fact!

And MS released, Forza:HZ 5, Halo infinite , and MS Flight Sim, among a few others...funny how you didn't list those...smh.

CrimsonWing69338d ago

@Lightning77

“It took long enough due COVID among other things,”

That’s literally in his post, how did you miss it!?

Obscure_Observer338d ago

"Oh we still using the COVID excuse...."

Forgive me, I forgot that COVID it´s only a reason for delays when comes to your preferred company and it´s games.

Lightning77338d ago

@Crimson Why are y'all spreading fake news? He never mentioned covid.

Quit making up your own fake news. I'll shut it down fast.

Forza is nothing new and has been on the Xbox lists for years now.

Crows90338d ago

You still need to wait for those games. Rewrite and reword this comment when those games comment and are great

Vengeance1138338d ago

Seriously going to mention Forza with a straight face lol literally same game every single year, may as well mention NHL 24 while you're at it, or Fifa.

Obscure_Observer338d ago

"Seriously going to mention Forza with a straight face lol literally same game every single year, may as well mention NHL 24 while you're at it, or Fifa."

The last Forza Motorsport was released in 2017, check your facts and don´t be so insecure about Xbox getting games.

Flakegriffin337d ago

@obscure

Nobody is insecure about Xbox getting games. It’s your insecurities over Xbox, where you feel you need to justify everything they do, that make people laugh at you.

thesoftware730337d ago (Edited 337d ago )

Vengeance, Fox mentioned GT7? What is the difference? In no way is it like releasing an NHL game, what a stupid thing to say.

How do you disqualify a new game that gets stellar reviews and is top-tier? oh for your sill narrative....Hypocrite.

Vengeance1138337d ago (Edited 337d ago )

@Obscure_Observer
Nice PR spin right there lol Theres been 10 Forza's released in the last 12yrs, lets not pretend Forza Horizon isnt the exact same thing as Forza Motorsport. The last Forza game was 2021 bruh, check your facts better ok?

@thesoftware730

lmao touch a nerve did I? Sensitive little xbot you are, Go stroke your Xbox, clown.

Obscure_Observer337d ago

@Flakegriffin

"Nobody is insecure about Xbox getting games. It’s your insecurities over Xbox, where you feel you need to justify everything they do, that make people laugh at you.

Let them laugh. This is a positive Xbox article and I´d gave a positive opinion. Thing is Xbox getting games does make some people uncomfortable or mad for whatever reason.

It is what it is.

It didn't take long for you to forget that as an Xbox player, you are not getting anything more with this Zenimax purchase. Starfield would have released on Xbox regardless, even if MS had not bought the company. Yet here you are celebrating the release of a former multiplatform game as a some sort or victory.

Xbox players wanted more games from MS but instead they got smoke and mirrors. And you fell for it.

Obscure_Observer337d ago (Edited 337d ago )

"It didn't take long for you to forget that as an Xbox player, you are not getting anything more with this Zenimax purchase."

Wrong. Didn´t take long for *you* to forget that TESVI, Indiana Jones, Fallout 5 among new unannounced games form ID, Tango and Arkane Lyon are also in development as we speak.

"Starfield would have released on Xbox regardless, even if MS had not bought the company. Yet here you are celebrating the release of a former multiplatform game as a some sort or victory."

Starfield would be released in a rough state as presented last year if wasn´t for Phil Spencer to allow Bethesda an extra year. So yes, if Starfield turn out to be "less buggy" as early reports suggests, XGS and Xbox gamers certainly has something to celebrate.

"Xbox players wanted more games from MS but instead they got smoke and mirrors. And you fell for it."

I´ll be playing Starfield next week so I think I´m good. Thank you.

Lightning77337d ago

So what about games like FF16 being taken away from other platforms hell even away from PC for a short time? A super popular IP that's released on multiple platforms for decades isn't on the other platforms. Sony didn't make FF it's not their game also. MS was also heavily involved in optimizing the game early last year just like how Sony helped with development with 16. One is a new IP then other not a new IP that's been on multiple systems so which ones worse?

Also the game would of released on PS first probably for a year 2 exclusive. Trust me you and everyone wouldn't complain not a single bit or acting childish across the SM. You would all be praising and loving SF because it's exclusives. I don't wanna hear your obvious hypocrisy.

TheTony316337d ago

The only "true" MS first party game right now is Forza since you would have gotten Starfield regardless, with or without the acquisition.

Lightning77337d ago

Yeah after a year or two exclusively on PS. Nobody cares about what's true exclusive or not. I guess 16 isn't a true PS exclusive according to your logic.

CrimsonWing69337d ago

@Lightning77

I mean, FF16 is a “timed” exclusive, but with timed exclusivity I question the effectiveness of pushing console sales since you can just wait and play it on PC or Xbox (in some cases).

I think “true” exclusivity definitely would make people interested in a game enough to buy the console, assuming it’s the only place to play said exclusive game.

TheTony316336d ago

Lightning77

FF16 is a timed exclusive and he was talking about "true" Microsoft first party games. Starfield was in development long before MS acquired Bethesda. We'll see how a "true" MS first party game looks like later down the line.

ChiefofLoliPolice337d ago

Oh my goodness Obscure. Can't believe you're still using Covid as a excuse. Sad lmao.

Flakegriffin337d ago

3 years later, almost 4, and still using the Covid excuse.

Also, let us know when Xbox delivers quality games consistently. Anybody can drop games back to back.

Rockstar337d ago

Your opening paragraph reads as if you're an Xbox PR guy...oh wait...

anast337d ago

I'm jealous of your downvote count.

Rockstar337d ago

You too can have a downvote count that's as stellar with the right (or wrong) attitude!

anast337d ago

True, 61 is getting close to impressive, though.

TheTony316336d ago

Lightning77

FF16 is a timed exclusive.

Poor Redfall...

Crows90338d ago

I thought redfall was the starting gun...no reason for it not to be.

Christopher338d ago

Well, someone shot it sense it's been dead silent about updates and upcoming content for a while.

Obelisk92337d ago

B-b-but this time it's for real!!!

anast337d ago

Yeah, Halo was a serious misstep for them. I think it actually cost them the entire gen.

EazyC338d ago

Game studios need to realise this GaaS thing will eventually drive the industry into the ground. You can't just cut off innovation for constant revenue-pumping via service provision.

It is quality first-party titles that conserve the legacy of videogames.

Inverno338d ago

Starting gun was Halo which over their control has gradually become a shell of it's former self. Let's seriously cut the fanboy BS off for a minute. MS has had a horrible track record over the last 2 gens. Practically every studio under their name has been and is still horribly mismanaged, that includes the ones obtained after the Bethesda deal because anyone with working eyes could see Redfall was a ball of jank and they still pushed it out. And now they're hypin this one game as the second coming of Xbox Jesus. Let games speak from themselves, cause otherwise you keep setting up people fr disappointment.

Good-Smurf337d ago

Always been the problem with Xbox they talked and shouted too much and underdelivered.
Perks of them buying up gaming media I guess.

ChasterMies337d ago

I’m not surprised that forgot about Halo Infinite as the exclusive that kicked off this gen’s Xbox exclusive. This goes to show how far down this franchise has fallen. Halo on OG Xbox and Xbox 360 was a cultural phenomenon. 16 years later and Halo 3 still has the best campaign of any shooter ever made. After a lackluster Halo 4 and awful Halo 5 (the only Halo for the disastrous Xbox One era), I see why folks wouldn’t bother booting Halo Infinite even though it seemed to review well and even though it was on Game Pass. My worry for all the studios that Microsoft bought is that their games will become just as forgettable as the Halo franchise. Just look at what happened to Mass Effect under EA’s leadership.

purple101337d ago (Edited 337d ago )

I remember when xbotz would list their upcoming games,

including Scorn, The medium and Redfall, yeh, they're all a bit quiet now

Good list I've had similar reactions to some games even ones on the list like the order and Callisto

Also I recently grabbed forspoken for, 5 dollars at a eb games Clarence sale and I am actually enjoying it more than I thought I would

Sometimes you just need to give critically panned games a chance

FTLmaster2d ago

Oh gosh, good shout on Forspoken! Genuinely forgot about that one, and haven't got around to playing it. It's on my to-buy-in-a-sale list!

Cacabunga1d 15h ago (Edited 1d 15h ago )

Knack was great ! Had a blast with the first one. Haven’t tried the second one though due to backlog

The Fight: Lights Out was also a game i enjoyed very much and highly detailed with great motion control when you understand how they work, which is what pushed people away from this game..

LoveSpuds1d 13h ago

Both The Order and Calisto were harshly treated in my view. I am not saying they are perfect, but the were both really solid games. I personally really liked them despite acknowledging their flaws and coincidentally, got the platinum trophy for both games.

Evil West is another really fun game that's worth checking out for sure.

andy851d 13h ago

Forspoken was great. Never really understood all the criticism. 2nd best traversal in a game after Spiderman

Profchaos1d 6h ago

Yeah gameplay wise I get huge infamous vibes with its combat starting out as low level eventually becoming a unstoppable power spewing killing machine with a wide variety of powers infamous is one of my favourite franchises obviously it's not the same but I love the combat of it so far.

ChasterMies2d ago

I feel like we’re finally starting to see a sea change in how we treat our favorite games. Sure, we all acknowledge that a game can suck and we can still enjoy it. Hopefully this results in meaningful review scores. Personally, I find a lot of bad games are better if you blast through them on the easiest difficulty. Callisto protocol on the image is a good example of this.

LoveSpuds1d 13h ago (Edited 1d 13h ago )

I really liked Calisto, harshly treated for sure and I don't necessarily think it needs to be played on easy to enjoy it. It's not perfect, but it's not the car crash the media portrayed it as either.

I have said it before, but part of the issue is that there is a mind share going on in games coverage, with all the main outfits being personal friends and talking too each other. As such, there is a risk that everyone ends up sharing in the same opinion rather than thinking from themselves. I reckon that's why some games get a universal bashing when consumers actually like the game and equally, games get great reviews across the board and the game doesnt land with consumers.

RaidenBlack2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Actually, I started liking FO76 after the wastelanders DLC ... it has been my guilty pleasure
other games I can think of Order 1886, Driveclub, Resident Evil 6 (only the Leon part), Alpha Protocol (pretty unique, needs a remake), XIII Remake (after patches), Medal of Honor 2010, Medal of Honor Warfighter, Homefront The Revolution, Enemy Front, Legendary The Box, Faces of War, Conflict: Vietnam, Conflict: Global Storm & Codename: Panzers – Cold War

CosmicTurtle2d ago

Driveclub was genuinely a good game with a poor launch. Alpha Protocol is superb, just a few archaic design choices for the time.

RaidenBlack1d 14h ago

I want past games with interesting setups/mechanics but having some flaws (due to crunch or budget) to be remade so that the gaming community can appreciate and enjoy them as was envisioned and intended by the developers. In contrast to a successful game being remade again just with prettier coat of paint.
Alpha Protocol tops that and I'll include FO:NV as well as an exception (it is popular but features were cut due to limited dev time). And also Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines I, Singularity, KOTOR II and maybe Daikatana.
There might be others which I can't recall atm.

SonyStyled2d ago

I loved Enemy Front. I pre ordered it months prior and remember calling the store to check if it came out that day. The guy never heard of it but confirmed my copy was ready to pick up. Game was simple and basic in a good way. Didn’t have any tacked on extras. A simple mission and objectives in each level. Kind of reminded me of the first Crysis in a way

gold_drake2d ago

The Order was really good. abit short

RiseNShine2d ago

I loved The Order, ridiculous graphics for it's time and a very interesting setting, it was linear but not as bad as people say. Similar thing with Callisto Protocol, i admit that i played it a long time after release so maybe issues were fixed by then, but it was a fantastic Dead Space-like horror game with some of the best graphics i've seen in my life.

LoveSpuds1d 13h ago

Yup, I am afraid to say I waited on Calisto and picked it up for around 30 quid. Once I played it on felt really badly for the devs because the game was really decent.
