"Bottom line, Chronicles of Mystery: The Scorpio Ritual is a solid adventure game. It is warm and accessible to the average player. The game is great to look at, pixel hunting is abolished (provided you remember to hit that certain icon), and the plot is rather interesting. The problem is that it feels like we've traversed this area before, and it is not as well-done as previous attempts by other developers. Also, a walkthrough is going to be required for the novice at times due to the game's logic. Ultimately, I do not expect everyone to enjoy this game because it is much more a niche game than its adventure cousin Time Hollow. However, I can imagine diehard adventure fans becoming rather content with it. Check out the official Web site, watch the videos and stare at the screenshots. If this game interests you, try it. There are definitely worse ways to spend your time."
If you've played the rather woeful FBI Confidential games from the same developer, you'll probably notice that this is almost exactly the same in terms of execution and visuals. Given that the main character from those games actually turns up as a 'female tourist' in this, the similarities have at least been recognised. If you enjoy below-average games or like adventures where the voices cut out halfway through every single sentence, then this one is for you. As is a sharp blow to the head with a bat.
DreamStation writes: "Chronicles of Mystery - The Scorpio Ritual is an interactive puzzle style of game developed by City Interactive. It is based on a mystery of a hidden group from the age of the Crusades, known as the Knights Hospitaller. Set in present day, you play a character named, Sylvie. The premise is her uncle in Malta has made an archeological discovery and uncovered a mystery surrounding this covert group of the dark ages. It has been years since Sylvie has been here and she is a bit nostalgic from her childhood of running around the streets and neighborhoods as a child along her uncle's side."
WP writes: "Although the market for adventure games in North America has narrowed to only a few choice titles as publishers and developers focus on other genres, the flame is still very much alive, thanks in no small way to overseas imports finding a place for themselves on retail shelves. Europe in particular has continued to produce one title after another, and City Interactive, probably best known for their budget shooters, has also gotten into the act with Chronicles of Mystery: The Scorpio Ritual."
