Diablo 4 Community Outraged Over In-Game Shop Ads

Some members of the Diablo 4 community is outraged over the appearance of in-game shop ads, reminding players of new microtransactions.

CobraKai632d ago

This isn’t exactly new. Didn’t games like Gears of War, Destiny and Street Fighter do things like this?

Flakegriffin632d ago

Correct. It’s typical fake outcry.

Just like when people swore skins in D4 would be $30 but didn’t blink an eye when an entire outfit in Street Fighter ran $25-$28.

antikbaka632d ago

it's not fake. The game just doesn't deliver quality, that's why every day it attracts more negative attention.

It would have been a different story if it was a feature complete as baldurs gate 3.

Flakegriffin632d ago (Edited 632d ago )

@antik

It’s 100% fake outcry. Can’t complain over one game doing it but not speak up over every other game doing the same thing.

sinspirit632d ago

I don't hear any of the people complaining about the skins for D4 saying they agree with Street Fighter skin prices. Not everyone that complains needs to join the entire brigade and picket the entire act of something. Some are just affected more personally from the particular media that they are into.

D4 is a much larger fanbase and also just released. Of course you're seeing these articles. And, SF6 did get criticism, but the main reason it probably didn't is due to the game being a heavy hitter otherwise.

Angyobangyo632d ago

I am sure SF players aren't happy at those prices either. You're making up facts to validate your own point. The fact we should have this in a $70 game. The fact that they wanted D4 to be a live service was foreshadowing what was to come. Should have just made it f2p game like immortal because Blizzard is hellbent in monetizing you dfiehard Diablo fans regardless. Call it fake outcry if you want, but sensible gamers all know what it is and Blizzard have shown who they are countless times.

Rynxie631d ago

Different community. I doubt street fighter fans are playing diablo 4 and vice versa. Maybe just a very, very small percent.

CobraKai631d ago (Edited 631d ago )

What better way would they notify gamers of DLC or micro transactions than in their own game? It’s not like they have product placement in the game world. You boot up COD or GTAV and ads are there there in the loading screen.

I think some gamers are a little too snowflakey when it comes to these things.

KwietStorm_BLM631d ago

So the people who called out Capcom over the high ninja turtle pricing is fake too or?

Crows90631d ago (Edited 631d ago )

Maybe...just maybe less people played street fighter. Maybe you didn't blink an eye but that's crazy.

Maybe not everyone knows what all games have in terms of mtx

Not fake outcry

I played D4 last night and I guess I didn't notice these ads at all. Because they appear when you log in, only once, and can be closed with a single press of B, I pressed B and moved on with my life before even reading it.

... Bigger issue with the game is Act 1 putting me to sleep. The grey tones and humming music, I can't play more than a half hour without feeling like a grumpy old man in need of a recliner.

Fonsecap631d ago

Despite not being new it's not a good practice, if others do it doesn't make it ok and we gamers should call this practices out.

CobraKai631d ago

How are they going to inform gamers that there is DLC if gamers don’t want it in the game? When loading up or before starting a game, telling a gamer DLC is/will be available, it should be fine. If it’s there in the game world, then it would break the immersion and is bad practice.

PixelOmen632d ago

I'm not sure I'd exactly call a pop-up when launching the game "in-game". I initially thought they were referring to something in the game world itself.

thesoftware730632d ago

Same, I was thinking, huh? I never seen any ads while killing shit.

ModsDoBetter632d ago

This is pretty normal in games like Fortnite, COD, Battlefield, pretty much any game that sells skins has pop ups from time to time to show a new addition.

I don't agree with it but I feel there is definitely some badnwagoning going on here.

ModsDoBetter632d ago

& the other examples?

Last I checked COD is a full priced game.
Battlefield is a full priced game.
We also have Halo, a full priced game.
Street Fighter 6 also has a splash screen with updates including new outfits which...is a full priced game.

anast631d ago

That's my point. Your examples are not consistent. It isn't my responsibility to sort that out.

ZeekQuattro632d ago

Diablo 4 community feign outrage is more appropriate if you ask me. You knew what you signed up for. Don't cry foul after the fact. It's an industry standard at this point for games to have ads to inform you buy DLC. Even more so for what amounts to a live service game where your guarenteed to see the practice.

Remember Oblivion horse armor everyone? Good times good times.

gigoran81d 16h ago

I remember when they were testing the waters with paid DLC and people were screaming to not buy them so that companies would get the idea that we didn't want to pay for unfinished games. Gamers didn't listen, now the game companies are lapping it up.

Xristo1d 8h ago

The Oblivion horse armor may have been the beginning of cosmetics however, the WoW Celestial Mount takes the cake for setting us up for the present day. That mount made more money for Blizzard than the whole Starcraft 2 franchise. Just sad and crazy.

Michiel19891d 3h ago

horse armor wasn't the first mtx, far from it.

PRIMORDUS1d 3h ago

Nope cause I torrented that game and the horse DLC lol

tombfan1d 16h ago

When did we lost the ability to see COSMETICS on game stores at just $3 DLLs...

SimpleDad1d 15h ago

Yes, let the anger come...

anast1d 14h ago (Edited 1d 14h ago )

It's Diablo Immortal: Re-skinned, the Orca edition.

Michiel19891d 10h ago

at least be right for once...diablo immortal is D3 reskinned.....
You are always the most opiniated on games you haven't played and don't know a single thing about.

anast1d 7h ago

Hi Mich. Good to see you are kind of doing okay. You still have this fascination with imaginary omnipotence, but at least we are getting somewhere.

Michiel19891d 7h ago

you recovered from the iceberg?

Diablo 4 devs state game’s hated roadmap is incomplete, promise “good surprises” are coming

Speaking to fans on Twitter, Blizzard director of social and content marketing Adan Fketcher explained that the roadmap fans have been given is incomplete. While the roadmap does include some of the additions coming to the ARPG, there’s also more that the studio has yet to reveal.

AndrewM28d ago

Sorry I picked up Poe 2 last week, and it is way better than your game will ever be.

anast28d ago (Edited 28d ago )

They should have taken their time and made a good game instead of panicking after the Immortal "Don't you have phones?" fallout.

Michiel198928d ago

it already took them a decade, not sure how much more time they need

anast28d ago

They hadn't worked on it for a decade: "instead of panicking after the Immortal "Don't you have phones?" fallout."

CrimsonWing6927d ago

I haven’t beaten Diablo 4, but from the time I’ve spent I really loved it. What is it that people hate about it?

anast27d ago

The builds are too basic and the end game is not good, which is fine if they went the Diablo 2 route, but unlike D2 the build complexity really isn't there — the lack of tend game quality and the lack of build complexity is a recipe for suck in the ARPG space.
