True but gen on gen it feels like we're getting far less high quality games in general. At this point last gen my library was filling up nicely but this go round I'm still mostly in port and remaster territory (I consider remakes new given the effort required).

So the games we do get are often broken but it's been so long between high quality games can't blame people for picking them up

MTX stuff always says to me that it's a publisher decision and not the devs, or more accurately the people who hold the money. Devs aren't getting that revenue, it's the people in charge. So it's usually the publisher getting final say in that kind of stuff.
Destiny/Bungie is in a stange spot and I'm not familar enough to know what's going on their cause they were Activision then indipendant then obtained by SONY but allowed to mostly act indipendant.

BG3 Sets the bar high, some devs that attend/speak at gdc don't want high quality, they want to push push push (regardless of quality) shit.

What is the high bar being set? Amount of content? It's a bad thing when it comes to AC Valhalla where everyone says the game is bloated.

I google bg3 performance and there are a ton of people complaining about performance. And there are still bugs including a save bug that would have you lose all your progress that could be fixed now but launched with it.

I'm not shitting on the game but I'm seeing way too many articles about this game being the second coming of christ that i need clarification because i can't see it.

When I used to play Worms 2 online with one of my buddies in 99 at least one of them would rave about the original game, Command & Conquer and also Age of Empires. Really popular games back in the day.

I don't get this position. I understand liking physical games generally, but if the whole point with this game is to really support the devs for releasing a finished, polished product, doesn't it make the most sense to make sure to purchase it in the way that gets the most money to the devs? Is it really so critical to give GameStop or Best Buy a cut in this scenario? I understand wanting to be able to sell a game in the typical situation, but not here where you are "begging" to support the dev.

I am playing Baldurs Gate 3 now, (only in act 1 ). I absolutely love it and i am a little shocked about how much detail and story etc.... they have gotten in to this game. And i am just in act 1 !!! Cant wait to see more of the game.

(And not to brag) But playing this in 4k on an Oled C2 55 inch.. my jaw is on the floor sometimes reguarding the visuals, colours and the detail. Its absolutely beautiful to look at most of the times. And now i havent even started talking about the voice acting. That alone is incredible good.

I am an old gamer, And i remember playing Dragon Age Origins and after that always wanted a new DAO game.
THIS game rings all those bells. In short. For me. This is the best game in this style sense Dragon Age Origins.
I have played a lot of "rpg,s" but everyone except maybe Divinity 2 have fallen short (imo).

Until this Amazing game.

Also, what's your view on a hypothetical idea of EA contacting Larian to develop a future Dragon Age title?
No usual EA mtx or other bs involved strictly, just an idealistic partnership. Project will be envisioned as a true successor to DAO and will release quite a few years after BioWare's Dragon Age Dreadwolf. The current BioWare in turn will focus exclusively on action focused RPGs like Mass Effect after Dreadwolf's launch.
The idea was frowned upon, when I posted this last time here on N4G.

I can tell you this. If Larian got the chance to do a Dragon Age Origin Remake or a new chapter ala BG3, That would be my ultimate dream come true. You can ask my friends how tired they are hearing me, Still, Go on and on about how great Dragon Age Origins was and also the Divinity games. I bet they cant wait to hear me talk about BG3 for the coming 5+ years hahaha.

BG3 is the first game, Sense i think DAO and Mass Effect 1+2. That everytime i am not playing it.
I cant wait to get home and jump back in and explore the world and dissapear in the story.

They should be all out of their minds and think how come Larian develop a game with so much content out of the box without holding half of it behind DLC and micro transactions? They are afraid that these guys from Larian will wreck all the monetization business that took so much time to implement. EA, Activision/Blizzard, Ubisoft these should be afraid, I know that other publishers do that too but these guys started all of this and I hope that other studios like Larian start to show that gaming are for gamers and not for guys in suits that want to exploit our favorite hobby for their benefit. I don't know why they are panicking, they can carry on with their plan and continue to develop mobile monetization schemes disguised as games. The only penalty will be that gamer-gamers will stop paying attention, but gamers will still buy up all of those microtransactions and hit the yearly reskinned slot machine.

No one compares games the way these devs are describing. No one looked at The Witcher 3 and said "wow, I can't believe every RPG coming out doesn't have the same scope". This is a gigantic nothing burger of an issue and tantamount to all of these vocal developers admitting that they aren't as skilled at creating immersive worlds as Larian.

We don't want masterpiece after masterpiece. All we want are games that get effort and care put into them. Not fabricated AC games like Mirage seems to be, not lacking on promises like the AEW wrestling game was. Even a small game like Stray is welcome as long as it's made with entertainment first, profit second.

I think players expect way too much. What people should want is a game without bugs that is fun, but it goes beyond, where people want the biggest game of the year, with AAA graphics. All this pressure to make the game look amazing, and make a huge open world, coupled with a rushed deadline, leads to buggy, unfun messes. If people wanted a fun game and praised other aspects than purely graphics and a huge map, maybe devs would start working on a fun game. Indie devs do well because of this. You usually never see an indie dev with AAA graphics, because they want to make a fun game without bugs. The focus should just be shifted.
