Redfall Players Unhappy With The Devs' Silence On Post-Launch Content Despite Previous Claims

Arkane Austin said that Redfall would be its most supported game post-launch. Players have grown unhappy with the team's silence since then.

-Foxtrot679d ago

Amazes me people have gotten to this point to now be unhappy

Like the launch wasn’t enough of a gut punch

Hofstaderman679d ago

There wasn’t much else to play.

isarai679d ago (Edited 679d ago )

Hogwarts Legacy, Jedi Survivor, and Dead Island 2 all came out on xbox within a month of redfall. Also Horizon FW burning shores and Zelda TotK if you have multiple consoles.

Hofstaderman678d ago

@isarai XBOX owners do not buy games, they wait for to come to GamePass

@isarai XBOX owners do not buy games, they wait for to come to GamePass

I am reading this while looking at my Xbox copies of Elden Ring and Sonic frontier.

shinoff2183678d ago

Divine

Ms gave us that information about xbox players not buying. We all know it's not all Xbox owners. CoOl you bought a couple games though.

Z501678d ago

"Xbox owners do not buy games, they wait for to come to GamePass"

That doesn't refute "There wasn't much else to play"

JackBNimble678d ago

Z501
Real.. because xbox has no games, not even 3rd party?
You guy's need to give up the bullshit, there is plenty to play especially considering BC.
Yes I agree xbox 1st party is crap but that's not the only games out there.

Bunch of hyperbolic bullshit ...

If there's one thing Xbox fans have a surplus of, it's copium.

Hofstaderman678d ago

Must really suck to be in their shoes. They can’t even refute anything since Phil has pretty much spelt out XBOXs state. The mental gymnastics of these guys are totally something else.

neutralgamer1992679d ago

Fox

I believe they have given up and moved on to other projects but coming out and saying that will generate too much negativity

Crows90678d ago

Xbox has the final say. They basically pulled a bait and switch...ran away with the money as fast as possible and came out to do tons of fake interviews on how unexpected it was. Putting the all the blame on the developers.

BaughJaughs679d ago

Sad for the people that bought this absolute horse spunk , but there is no point in wasting any more of the the developers time on this game. It’s a lost cause and should be swept under the carpet to allow them to focus on something new.

Petebloodyonion678d ago

And yet there are games like No Man Sky or Cynerpunk 2077 that are now considered incredible games despite the poor initial launch.

-Foxtrot678d ago

@Petebloodyonion

I wouldn't say they are "incredible"...just better than launch but when the bar is so low it's not saying anything.

FinalFantasyFanatic678d ago

@Petebloodyonion,
I think that's exaggerating a bit, they're better, but I'm not forking out for No Man's Sky and I'm on waiting on the Cyberpunk DLC before I actually buy the base game at a steep discount (GOG has had it for $30 for the past couple of sales).

shinoff2183678d ago

No man's sky is the only one I'd give a hey it sucked but good job since they were or are still such a small team. These other two to hell with that. I still talk shit about cyberpunk and I platinumed it.

I think anyone who continued to support it are crazy. I think absolute silence from the studio is bonkers.

But I also think anyone having expected a substantial content update by now (3 months) are a bit ridiculous.

Eonjay679d ago (Edited 679d ago )

It was never unreasonable for people to expect support considering some actually even paid the full $70 price. You can't just shit on people, take their money and disappear. As consumers we can't stand for that. Otherwise that will become the norm.

VersusDMC679d ago

And they charged money for a season pass(30$) that includes 2 new heroes. That content needs to happen or start giving out refunds.

crazyCoconuts678d ago

Agree with all points here. I think it's worth mentioning that ppl paying for GamePass are getting ripped off as well... Faithfully paying monthly through light months waiting for these bombshells that are supposed to make it all worth it. I think the "payment plan" approach might make it less obvious how much $ is being thrown away on games like this

rakentaja677d ago

If they keep it that way, it will hurt them more in the long run. You release something "as is" and keep it "as is". The studio has no dignity. The scary message would be that "you can release anything" and just run away. It's hard for you to understand, but that's why CPR is working so hard on Cyberpunk, so your latest project won't be such a damaging image for the studio.

why are people expecting a GAAS game doing badly to be getting continuous support regardless of what the devs have promised? are people really THAT gullible?

DarXyde678d ago

I'm not so sure that's in the developer's hands anymore though.

It is entirely possible that Arkane isn't allowed to prioritize this game anymore. It is possible that, if the game was successful, Microsoft would have them continue working on this game with updates. Since it's dead in the water, is it possible that they are not allowed to continue regularly scheduled support?

If so, that is very concerning. It's like cancelling a television season if viewership is too low. For games though, this seems more problematic because this is pretty much promised.

Inverno679d ago

I'ma be real blunt. Who the actual fudge is still playing this? And how dumb you gotta be to still expect anything good to happen? You got suckered, you didn't ask for a refund, now it's too late, move on. People's lack of common sense is truly worrisome.

Eonjay679d ago (Edited 679d ago )

The consumers who purchased the game fulfilled their end of the deal by parting with their money. To be blunt there is nothing more they should have to do to be made whole. They shouldn't just accept being burnt. Where is Microsoft protecting it's consumers? Why is it okay to walk over the bones of the people giving them money?

Inverno679d ago

You're right, people shouldn't let companies screw em over but some self accountability is in order. If you know before hand that the game is trash, and reviews be saying it's trash then the responsible thing to do is refund your digital copy or go to the store and cancel the purchase. If you didn't do that and instead decided to wait for the game to be patched and have content added to it then that's entirely on you and you should take the L as they say.

shinoff2183678d ago

Inferno at the same time you can't always go by reviews that's whack. I'll say in redfalls case it was written all over though

Elda678d ago

The one good thing about GP is one doesn't have to fork over retail price upfront when you can try the game on the sub service, if one likes the game they can support by buying the game retail...though most won't buy knowing one can play the entire game through GP.

DarXyde678d ago

That is disingenuous.

People made a big stink about the game. To the point that Spencer had to come out, make his typical PR pitch, and admitting that the game isn't great (and I'm pretty sure he's lying about the internal reviews being so positive).

Also, you need to understand the precedent being set here: I feel pretty sure most people didn't buy this game and the player base that did experience this game overwhelmingly did so via XGP. How does one ask for a refund in this scenario? Request a month of free XGP? How, when it's one game and the service has many? XGP seems to offer a level of insulation from refund requests, which we're seeing now. Sure, people could buy the game, but the proportion of buyers to renters is so greatly in favour of renters that even if every buyer complains and requests a refund, they could easily say that "a vocal minority of players are requesting refunds" and swat their concerns aside.

It's grimy. Let's not defend terrible business practices and chalk it up to consumer naivety. That's not fair.

FinalFantasyFanatic678d ago

For the cost of Game Pass, I wouldn't care if the game is broken, I'd toss it aside and play something else at that price.

shinoff2183678d ago

You know damn well that game didn't review well at all but ms had to push out something at this point it had been so long. That game should've been canned. Didn't the devs even say alot of them didn't wanna continue it.

Charlieboy333678d ago

@ Final Oh boy, you truly are Microsoft's dream customer

FinalFantasyFanatic678d ago (Edited 678d ago )

@Charlie,
Tough bikkies, I don't have, and never will purchase Game Pass (I have an extensive library of games I'll probably never finish in my life time), I also would never buy Redfall (and I very rarely pre-order anything).

I think Microsoft would be more depressed that they couldn't attract me as a customer, to their hardware, their games, their subscriptions (You'd know that if you saw my comment history). Most Xbox owners probably didn't even buy Redfall.

Concord, Suicide Squad, Fairgame$ And ‘Vibes-Based’ Failures

Paul Tassi: "Sony recently reiterated its commitment to live service games with one big hit last year (Helldivers 2), one big cancellation (The Last of Us Factions) and one big failure (Concord). It’s no great surprise it is continuing down this road, given the way the industry is trending and the limited shelf life of its famed single player games. But it immediately made me think of a game that Sony is allegedly releasing that I have to believe is pre-destined to fail, Fairgame$."

Alos88164d ago

Fairgame$ feels like it's destined to flop out the gate- that initial trailer felt full of that same instantly-dated 'fight The Man with a ragtag team of weirdos' energy that was prevalent in Sega's Hyenas (which they wisely cancelled.) Unlike Marathon I just don't see this standing a chance.

Nacho_Z163d ago

It will definitely flop, missed the boat by a couple of years. Agreed that Marathon has a decent chance of succeeding it looks genuinely good and interesting.

It can't be sustainable having all these expensive GaaS being DOA being balanced by the odd modest success like Helldivers. The aim is to find the new Fortnite or whatever but it's highly unlikely and seems to be a massive waste of money.

Concord and the Other Biggest Flops of This Generation

Some of the biggest success stories in the history of gaming have happened during this generation of gaming. At the same time, some of the biggest flops in the history of gaming have also happened during this generation of gaming. To this end, a few games particularly stick out as, unfortunately, disastrous flops for those who made the games, sold the games, and ultimately, for many that played the games.

What a strange, short list. There have been many more games that arrived DOA, were never released, didn’t make their budget back, etc. Why cherry pick these games? Is this list based on the size of internet hate boners?

EternalTitan281d ago

These flops have a similarity that you may not be allowed to point out.

Skull and Bones gets my vote, at this point just completely remake AC Black Flag. If the Concord developers had made the game free to play, and toned down the in your face messaging via the mods and design choices, this game could have been serviceable eventually. I never understand why pandering to 5% of your audience and giving the finger to the other 95% seems like a good idea to these people. They never seem to learn. Disney has lost 1/3rd of its value and they keep doubling down on political messaging. I don’t get it.

BlackTar187281d ago

Some of these companies are paid huge amounts of money to do this stuff. They get truck loads of money to give “the message”
By blackrock and vanguards and multiple other venture capitalists even though it’s been proven over and over they fail.

I'm not interested in this game but i think it's great they added the offline mode for those who are.

darthv72379d ago

It was okay at first... once they added the performance update it was definitely better.

TwoPicklesGood380d ago

Bury this turd. It’s only good as a reminder of what devs shouldn’t do.

I hate the concept of an announced final update.
