Yup

The show literally rushed to the end and skipped out so many things for the sake of finishing the first game in 9 episodes.

Tendrils to spores, Tess having a weird new death with a kiss, Bill and Franks relationship not turning sour, Bills town with Joel hanging upside down as the Bloater attacks was cut, Kathleen's group as the shows "Hunters", Kathleen as a character in general with her stupid decisions. Just seemed like changes for the sake of change.

It's like for every scene they kept the same from the game, there was like 3-4 changes which didn't really needed to be changed.

The funny thing is, because video game adaptations are such a low bar, it's still one of the better ones on screen.

SonyStyled629d ago (Edited 629d ago )

I really liked how they fleshed out the winter scene in the show so we know more about the hunter group at the ski resort in the game, but I didn’t like how the deer and rabbit chapters from the game didn’t carry over to the show

Tapani629d ago

You are a professional complainer.

I liked both the show and game, they are different things and can be appreciated in different ways. I'm also pretty sure the showrunners (including game director) know the best what makes sense for a TV audience. After all, the show stands at 96/100 at Rotten Tomatoes based on 153 reviews, pretty much a perfect score.

-Foxtrot629d ago

Tapani

Ahhhh the same old

“Call me a complainer, personally attacking me, the user, but don’t actually give any sound counter points to why it wrong”

It’s boring, come up with something, anything

Oh and talking about the scores

Come on, like I said it’s the better adaptation out of them all but it’s a low bar…also it’s HBO which give it a boost with their track record along with people adoring Pedro Pascal. I could bring up plenty of highly scored shows which are now overrated looking back on them.

S2Killinit629d ago (Edited 629d ago )

The game of course. Its like saying which told the story better, the book or the movie.

Ps: really liking the show so far, but yeah its not a comparison to the game.

darthv72631d ago

The show was entertaining, but it missed its chance to really flesh out more of the characters. It felt too condensed as they tried to fit the entirety of the first game into one season. They should have stretched things out over two seasons before going into the 2nd game.

mandf631d ago

First ends when joel and el leave the college wounded cliffhanger end scene. Second season plays out. I feel the second game is to long for one season. Saying that the first one deserves seasons. If the second one gets. Just high pondering

arkard630d ago

Second game was already confirmed to be at least 2 seasons

Inverno630d ago

The show since it focused entirely on the story

mgszelda1630d ago

The game focused on Joel and ellie. The show lost the core focus entirely

Inverno630d ago

Joel and Ellie are better fleshed out in the show. They have actual chemistry unlike in the game where Joel is emotionally distant the entire time. They share more lighthearted moments, we actually see Joel slowly retaining his humanity. Joel's relationship with his brother is better fleshed out rather than them simply cutting all communication, him and Tess are actually a couple. Ellie being a lesbian is better handled in the show, where in the game it feels like an after thought for dlc.
Then you have all the supporting characters that barely had any development in the game, they get so better flashed out and Joel and Ellie are in one way or another present in those episodes. Dood the show does it better in every single way

-Foxtrot629d ago (Edited 629d ago )

@Inverno

What are you talking about?

Joel and Ellie in the show have no emotional bound at all, they barely connect as they rush through the game.

Also Troy and Ashley managed to be more emotional with their characters and have more chemistry with each other despite the fact they were in a mo-cap studio, with no real surroundings, in a silly mo-cap suit and aren't big Hollywood actors.

The way Pedro said "Unhook her" and "You'd just come after us" in the Hospital scene, he just sounded so bored, like he was ready to leave work for the day. Troy had so much more emotion in his scenes.

Also characters like Tess were done so dirty in the show.

CantThinkOfAUsername630d ago

Did you snooze during the cutscenes? Your second comment makes no sense if you paid attention to the story and dialogue in the game.

Crows90630d ago

Either he skipped the cutscenes or he didn't play the game

mgszelda1630d ago

This dude is out of his mind. The show is mediocre on its own. Compared to the game it's a lesser version in literally every way possible.

Inverno630d ago

"you didn't play the game" won't work on me homie, cause I played the game. Perhaps I need a refresher but I stand by what I said. The show tells the story in a much better way.

Rocketisleague630d ago (Edited 630d ago )

You're on a gaming site lad you'll get way less agrees and no critical thinking.

The pacing in the game is slow and you're right, the show tells it way better. It improved basically everything. Although I'm one of the few who liked Bill and Frank in the game way more. Felt the show forced that whole ep and liked the games version more. The backstory was handled waaay better too in the show

Either way every thing else is improved in the show. Coulda used more clicker action...but tbh it shows exactly where Neil drunkmans true passions lie and it is NOT gaming.

Just goes to show you the story was never anything special anyway, may aswell be a spinoff of the walking dead.

This is a problem.with gaming in general anyway, it's much tougher to keep a story going in a game as it also needs to be game. The show is just focused on one thing

Inverno630d ago

With how he handled the show I was thinking he'd be a much better fit as a film director than a game director. Show honestly changed my opinion on the guy somewhat and I'm curious on what he'll carry from that experience to whatever he makes next.

JackBNimble629d ago

Pretty sure he didn't direct the series but was a consultant .

Game by miles. I actually rolled my eyes at how flat the show did some of the best moments. Pedro is no Joel, that’s for sure.

JackBNimble629d ago

That's for sure, I think Pedro was an ok Joel but just ok. I also didn't like how they portrayed Ellie, she just didn't resonate with me .

-Foxtrot629d ago

Yeah I think Pedro got more love because it's Pedro Pascal, he's a great guy, likable, got that "daddy" vibe everyone seems to swoon over.

However in reality he wasn't a good Joel especially when there was so many actors who could have done the role better. High Jackman, Jon Hamm, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Karl Urban, Jeffrey Dean Morgan so on.

Also Bella is awful as Ellie, she portrays her as some sort of sociopath in the show, playing with infected bodies, sniffing guns and the like.

Christopher15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

As expected. Unless it's going to Xbox or Switch 2, we can stop hearing about these older games now? We can move on to just news about new games?

darthv7215d ago

....until the PS6 remake followed by the PS7 reboot

Christopher15d ago

Man, first year of PS6 is going to be 90% remasters. I'm going to hate it and likely hold off until new games actually get released that I can't play on my PS5.

Cacabunga15d ago

Yes I’m waiting for complete remaster…. On ps5

OtterX15d ago

...20 years later, "you haven't heard the last of us yet!" *releases The Last of Us Retro Collection*

cloganart15d ago

@Christopher

Oof, yeah. I don't think I'm picking up the PS6 until "Pro" comes out 😂

Cacabunga14d ago

I haven’t played Tlou1 since PS3 and i have the greatest memory of it

Notellin14d ago

I'm already dreading all the cross generation games and remasters we'll see with the next round of consoles.

LonDonE14d ago

lmao this is getting ridiculous but thing is if people keep buying them.. then why would they stop making them?
Peeps STOP BUYING this game.. that actually hurts me to say this as the last of us is high up on my greatest games of all times.. its one of the few games i played through start to finish 3/4 times back to back as i loved it so much. But sony need to stop, give us a Resistance 3 remaster, i would love and buy that.. such an underated series as was killzone.
Or give us infamous.. so many great series and titles i would gladly buy but they just want to keep giving us last of us.

I am done buying that game.. i would only buy part 2 remaster if they remade it and kept joel alive, or i am not interested. Hate last of us 2s story killing off joel.. the actual game is stunning and incredible, they improved so much in the gameplay department but i hate the story with a passion.

Profchaos15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

We can stop hearing about it when they stop re-releasing them I guess.

I reckon the ps6 version will be 8k 240 and I'll still not care.

I miss new games from nd

Inverno15d ago

And HBO just announced season 3 even tho LoU2 couldn't possibly be so long that it wouldn't be able to fit in 1 season. They're just milking it at this point.

darthv7215d ago

speaking of the HBO series... I felt they should have made part 1 across two seasons, then address part 2 in seasons 3 and 4. so now i have a feeling they rushed through part 1 in season 1 to make season 2 a cliff hanger with Joel's impending demise being the starting point to Season 3.

-Foxtrot15d ago

I love how they decided to rush, chop and change things for Season 1 to get through the game yet for TLOU Part II it’s like “we’re going to do multiple seasons and take our time”

Inverno15d ago

Okay after seeing that there's only 7 episodes I take it back. Though I think it's incredibly stupid not to have just made the season longer. Another season just to finish what could've just been a 13 episode season seems counterintuitive but aiight. I put that on HBO tho.

Neonridr15d ago

This will be the 4th time Sony sells us The Last of Us Part 1.. And the 2nd time on the PS5.

Knushwood Butt14d ago

They don't want Metroid Prime holding that record,

NotoriousWhiz14d ago

Strange, I thought the record went to Street Fighter 2.

15d ago
FPS_D3TH15d ago

We are approaching Skyrim levels here

Profchaos15d ago

At this point we are at Skyrim in terms of frequency. Skyrim was one per generation. If you exclude VR Skyrim we've now exceeded it

Tlou 1 PS3, 1 PS4 2 ps5
Skyrim 1 ps360 2 PS4/x1/vr 1 ps5/sx

Tlou 4
Skyrim 4

Christopher15d ago

Not quite. Skyrim had:

PS3/360/PC
PS4/X1
VR
Switch
Skyrim Special Edition PC/PS4/X1
Skyrim Special Edition PS5/XSX

VersusDMC15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

Also add skyrim bundles like the one below and all the humble bundles since that's what everyone is doing here

https://www.xbox.com/en-CA/...

darthv7215d ago

@Chris, LoU is getting just as bad by milking the same user base. At least Skyrim was able to sell to a wider audience via different platforms.

Christopher15d ago

@darthv72: I don't know why you're telling me that. I only corrected on number of Skyrim re-releases/ports/etc. I didn't say anything else.

Profchaos15d ago

@christopher guess I forgot just how much was out I think the special editions are technically one release despite being cross platform though would the Alexa version count

Christopher15d ago

@Profchaos: I guess, but I'd consider it a separate release since it rolled them into one at a later date but definitely there is a PS5/XSX version with PS5/XSX supported updates specific to them.

Chevalier14d ago

"LoU is getting just as bad by milking the same user base"

Weird. Like 35% of PS5 owners are NEW to Playstation. Plus this is really for new fans from the TV series for season 2 of TLOU.

I recall the same idiotic comments when the 1st one was remade just before TLOU TV Series came out and it went on the be one of the best selling games that year.

So maybe get your FACTS straight. Unlike Skyrim getting literally releases in 3 generations and 10 releases.

Neonridr14d ago

I gotta figure RE4 is up there too

FPS_D3TH14d ago

No. Those are remakes. Not remasters

Neonridr14d ago

@FPS - we've had quite a few RE4 remasters, only 1 remake.

CrimsonWing6913d ago (Edited 13d ago )

@FPS_D3TH

It blows my mind how people do some mental gymnastics to try to cope with a game they like doing the same thing (technically more) they’re complaining about for another game.

RE4 - PS2, GC
RE4 w Motion Controls - Wii
Literally RE4 HD Remaster - Xbox 360, PS3
I’m assuming a port of RE HD - PS4, Xbox One
RE4 Remake - PS5, Xsex

1 Remake and the bunch are Remasters… how, I mean how—Y’know what, it doesn’t matter anymore…

P_Bomb15d ago

Store says I already own it. I guess it’s just a straight twin-pack. Looks like they added 4 maps to ‘No Return’.

VersusDMC15d ago

You don't need to buy this to get the maps, marlene and bill. It all got patched in to the game on the 3rd.

P_Bomb15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

Good to know. I’ve watched runs of ‘No Return’ but have yet to try it myself. Soon, soon 😉

Knushwood Butt15d ago

Yeah, No Return got a content update.
Three new trophies too.

Nyxus25d ago

lukasmain25d ago (Edited 25d ago )

That's totally what it is I believe. It would be a great bundle for new players getting into the ecosystem

25d ago
Goodguy0125d ago

They're really milking this franchise lol

anast25d ago

You must comment on every Mario, Zelda, and Skyrim article too.

darthv7225d ago

....because there has been the same mario, Zelda and Skyrim games for three console generations?

24d ago
isarai24d ago

@darthv72

Literally yes 🤨

Cacabunga24d ago

Every Mario and Zelda is different. This is just the exact same game over and over

anast24d ago

Skyrim, yes. Mario and Zelda since the 80's

Loktai24d ago

@darthv72 Uh yes. Yes it has. They milked BOTW across Wii U and switch and they STILL want 40+ for it new and never discounted it. They made "remasters" of older zelda games as well on switch and in the past onto the other gameboy platforms from the older platforms. They have done the same with Mario. They port the paper mario games and mario RPG to switch. And now I PROMISE you they are going to show "enhancements" for those same games on Switch 2. I PROMISE you thats going to get mentioned, maybe even tomorrow. Last of us Part 1 has been across techncially 3 generations, but 2 has been 2- and JUST BARELY 2 because it released just a few months before the PS5 did - and so if that counts as milking it, what do you call breath of the wild on Wii U then going to switch or Twilight Princess coming uot on gamecube and Wii - OR ZELDA WIND WAKER HD coming out?

Chevalier24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

"Skyrim games for three console generations?"

Darth showing some idiocy here. Seriously yes Skyrim has been re-released more than any other game period. It's been released on 3 generations - PS3, PS4, PS5, PSVR, PC, PC VR, Switch, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S. That's 10 releases across 3 generations! So Seriously get your DAMN facts straight.

Yui_Suzumiya24d ago

And yet Fallout 3 has never been Remastered. Prison time should be given for that offense, lol

darthv7224d ago

Skyrim sure, but the other two... not so much

thorstein24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

@darth GTAV says hi.

Skyrim has an Alexa edition.

Chevalier24d ago

Clearly a guy with business acumen! Why would Sony want to rebundle games and release them in time for the 2nd season of TLOU to release? I mean the last time a bunch of idiots laughed at Sony then guess what? TLOU part 1 for PS5 only hit top 5 sales and kept popping onto charts throughout the year?! Lol

24d ago
Chevalier24d ago

"Skyrim sure, but the other two... not so much"

Multiple Mario and Zelda games have made 2 generations. Maybe you guys forget that over a 3rd of the gamers on Playstation have NEVER owned a Playstation system before and some are coming into it as a result of the TV show.

People said the EXACT same crap when the 1st game got released on PS5, but, it ended up being one of the best selling games the year it came out.

Also for all the idiots complaining. Playstation at least offer $10 upgrades for some of these games. Have you EVER seen a re-release by Nintendo, Xbox, Bethesda offer that?! No I didn't think so.

darthv7224d ago

releasing a newer version because the previous version is not physically compatible is not quite the same as taking a perfectly good existing game that already works on the newer platform and repackaging it under a remaster brand for that newer platform and then repackaging it AGAIN for the same platform.

And that whole line of *insert people here may not have had a PS before* is a line of BS. PS2 is the most selling platform in history... chances are very good a high percentage upgrade to the PS3 and then upgraded to the PS4 and are upgrading again for the PS5. So dont give me that line of bologna. you'd rather swallow every bit of Sony propaganda instead of call them out for milking (and yes this is milking) this game. You know there will be a PS6 version and likely a PS7 remaster.

Of course i am purely speculating on the 6 & 7 but there is a high degree of probability because of what they did already between 3, 4 & 5. And you defending even the $10 upgrade when most of the XB games get free upgrades is just another sign of your blind loyalty. I didnt think it possible and gave you benefit of the doubt but now I can see i was totally wrong.

Chevalier23d ago (Edited 23d ago )

@Darth

Again your examples are absolutely terrible. Repackaged games for new audiences isn't new with the high cost of development. This release is timed for people that are new to Playstation coming from watching season 2 of the TV show. If you're surprised and annoyed by this then stop gaming then. It will happen if there's some new Skyrim, Fallout, Doom or whatever TV show comes out too.

Also you're the guy who defends Xbox for this crap too. Skyrim releases were done while owned by Xbox.

Also you mentioned the PS2, repackaged games happened all the time then too. If you think that repackaged games is going to go away with the skyrocketing cost of development is going away then sorry cover your eyes and plug your ears and pretend like an idiot then. You will be complaining daily soon.

I've liked the recent designs lately but this seems like a bit of a miss I would of expected a more tattered design it's to clean to really sell it as a tlou theme.

lucasnooker48d ago

Nice controller but where are the games?

BABI-PANGPANG48d ago

Not a big fan of the three white symbols. They fit too neatly on the controller, making the design feel too clean for the game's vibe. I think it would work better with either one large symbol or all three in different sizes, with parts cut off at the edges, like a quick, rough paint job meant to stand out rather than look polished.

darthv7248d ago

This controller will get a remaster on PS6 and then a remake for PS7.

MatrixxGT48d ago

Missed opportunity….they could have used the cordysceps virus strands wrapping out it. Spores, vines, anything pertaining to the actual series other than faction symbols.
