Putting the Xbox in the middle of the picture doesn't change its sales numbers.

aaronaton300d ago

They shouldn't show the Series X either, as that model only makes up 1/5 of the overall Xbox sales.

Doge300d ago

They should just have it show PlayStation because Switch is a handheld and nobody buys Xbox.

anast300d ago

This and they only make games for the S.

S2Killinit300d ago

PS5 is increasing the gap at unprecedented rate. And this is just the americas.

Elda300d ago

Of course it's PlayStation.

I wonder why MS just dont become a third party publisher. It has to be more benefical for them.

ChasterMies300d ago

Phil Spencer basically hinted as much in his legendary interview on Kinda Funny’s Xcast. But not as a publisher of retail games. Microsoft wants to own the market for subscription games and cloud gaming. Why sell the milk when you can rent the cow.

FGHFGHFGH300d ago

No it wouldn't be. They want the platform to collect money from all game sales on xbox. Third party developers have a lot of competition and they have to make good games to sell them. Even though they bought activision, how much longer does COD have left? They already remade modern warfare and the last "new" COD had a big drop in player base. The real Infinity Ward devs are at EA (respawn) now. Microsoft likes to release their big game at the end of the year so they release like 1 big game a year + like a forza and some AA or indy type games. That's nothing compared to subs they get (just for multiplayer) + 30% of all game sales for just having xbox around

DefenderOfDoom2300d ago

I agree , but as someone who has done 99.9 of my video game playing on a PlayStation console since 1995 I would like SONY to still have competition for the adult video game console market . It worked great for Larry Bird and Magic Johnson because they always trying to top each other. By the way I have been a Boston Celtics fan since the mid 70's . Wow I am getting old .

BehindTheRows300d ago

Sony can receive plenty of competition and it not be from Xbox. This is always the thing that plucks at me "Sony needs competition, Xbox can't go away". Sure it can. Present them with a WORTHY competitor.

DefenderOfDoom2300d ago

The thing I am concerned about is, Microsoft seems like they can not make a good 1st party game so I guess they would have to have to rely on publishers like Bethesda and Activision for Microsoft 's 3rd party games? Anyways I am enjoying playing plenty of games on my Playstation console so no complaints here .

Jin_Sakai300d ago

“I wonder why MS just dont become a third party publisher. It has to be more benefical for them.”

Because they don’t want to take a big L with Xbox and admit defeat to PlayStation. They were going to take over the living room remember.

At some point Microsoft and the Investors will have a hard look at Xbox and think if it worth it to stay in gaming industry or just go third party and remove the hardware

raWfodog300d ago

I wonder if they plan on releasing two different models next gen, or just stick to one.

Aloymetal300d ago (Edited 300d ago )

Series S wasn't a mistake, you gotta put yourself in MS's shoes to really know what their truly scummy plan was/is and it was all by design, it's called ''double dipping'' buying an S now and get disappointed then buy an X later and be ''happy''. It's their only way to reach that average per gen magical number of 40-50mil units sold.

badz149300d ago

@Aloymetal
if they really were going for the double dip, why not just do a RRoD 2.0? the first one worked wonders for the 360 and we know well that they have the money to pay regulators off to downplay the failure rate.

rob-GP300d ago

Cute, you think Xbox is gonna release another console...

My prediction, which I said a while ago, is their next 'console' will be a streaming device. But, it won't stream Xbox Series X versions, it'll stream PC versions - most likely piggybacking off Geforce Now servers in a new deal.

That way, they won't lose hundreds of millions in R+D on a new console that less than 8m people will buy (Series X estimates), and they'll have games running at a decent level albeit via streaming.

FGHFGHFGH299d ago

@badz149

Well when the internal ssd goes bad on an xbox, the console becomes useless. There an invisible partition on the ssd which is like a key for the xbox to boot, so you can't just replace it. Since the ssd is really small on the series S, people are probably deleting and reinstalling games all the time. SSD are limited in how many time you can write to it before they die. So a lot of people will probably end up buying a replacement xbox when the ssd inevitably fails.
