VGChartz's Paul Broussard: "I wind up coming away from Pikmin 4 generally happy, but not as much as I wish I was. There’s a lot of good here, and it's clearly a game of immense passion. If you're someone who holds up Pikmin 2 as the high-water mark in the series then you'll probably unabashedly love this game, as it can be crudely described as 'Pikmin 2 with most of the rough edges smoothed out and a variety of mostly-positive new features'.
For me, however, I’d argue the first Pikmin is still the high-water mark for the series. Despite the quality of life features that game lacked, it was unquestionably about efficiently using your time, or “Dandori,” if you will. I’m frankly not sure what the main focus of Pikmin 4 is. Nintendo claims it’s about Dandori, but with the exception of an (admittedly great) side story mode, there rarely seems to be much in Pikmin 4 that encourages efficient time usage. Pikmin 4 is a mostly-good collectathon with some occasional leaps into greatness that showcase its true potential as a series, but it doesn’t commit enough to these to become truly great."
VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Last week Nintendo held this year's surprisingly packed not-E3 Direct; with a full schedule for this year and a vague promise of a console successor next year, it's very possible that we've now seen our final Nintendo Switch Direct, or at least one with major first party reveals. That makes this a good time to sit back and reflect on a generation of Direct moments, from the shocking and surprising, to the joyous and exhilarating - and, quite often, all at once."
VGChartz's Chinh Tran: "As demonstrated by our finalists, strategy gamers had a lot of variety in where they would spend their time executing meticulous moves and mulling over decisions. Although the following games offer different strategic experiences and force gamers to consider different elements, their core aspects remain similar. And no matter what you decided to play, you were guaranteed a mental workout."
WTMG's Leo Faria: "Ah, 2023. You were a chaotic year in terms of wars, climate change, politics, and other bad news, but when it came to gaming, yet again, despite all odds, you were still able to deliver. Even though games got delayed, Nintendo Switch ports got sent out in the wild running at 10 frames a second, companies got shut down, and publishers tried to come up with new ways to make us fear for the future of the industry, a barrage of great games kept being released at a delightful pace all throughout 2023."
3rd lowest review on Metacritic out of 85 reviews. Don’t think I’ll take this one very serious especially after playing the demo. The user score is also sitting at a 9.2.
Do any of you ever stop to think how insane it is? When there's people on YouTube who you can follow and know that you vibe with their opinions, why would anybody in their right mind take the opinions of all the moronic reviewers who's names are practically unheard of and who are paid to get their review up as soon as physically possible after, at the end of their review, tossing the first number that pops into their head at it - and then averaging them as a way to tell if a game is good or not? Legitimately psychotic
Go watch a gmanlives or jerek or gvmers or dunkey review or something. God anything that isn't a review aggregate website. Find somebody who's passionate about Pikmin to tell you if a Pikmin game is good or not.
