The End of Games With Gold Signals a Step Away From Ownership

As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. In a time where you struggle to hear the word “free” commercially, Microsoft’s Games with Gold being a part of their Xbox Live Gold service served as a light in the dark for players interested in trying their hand at something different without a financial commitment. Alas, the time for that light to shift colors and go dim has finally come.

Hows that when you never owned the games included with GWG to begin with, as soon as you're no longer subscribed you lose access to them.

coolbeans691d ago

Only half true. All 360 games you got under GWG, as long you selected & downloaded them, are permanently owned by that Gold account - even if you drop XBL Gold later.

The shovelware Microsoft puts out for them Gold subs in truth isn't nor was it they at any point worth "owning".....so there's that! Microsoft is running out of shoveware to use for Gold program as the pool of Shovelware after years of Gold use is smaller so in an effort for Microsoft to continue to use these shovelware games Microsoft needs to end the Gold Sub service because they refuse to put better games on the service so now these shovelware games will be Game Pass bound.

The shovel ware they include in Gamepass is just as bad for sure, but that's all they have I guess :)

Not gonna say anything. Xbox fans want things done their way, so let them dig their own graves. Done trying I help them

Without financial commitment? What? You had to pay for the service.

[Sorry for late response.]

You have to take the whole sentence in context. The writer is framing that part for someone who was paying for Gold already. Now on top of just enjoying online & some discounts, a random 360 game that they might've never heard before was also awarded on top. Thus, owning said game where they didn't have to directly pay for it.

Same logic can apply to Xbox One titles on there, but that's more of a 'premium rental' you lose once dropping Gold.

Not sure it's 'as bad' as CP2077 as far as crashing and whatnot. It's just not as good of a game, so that makes the issues stand out more.

There's full walkthrough out there if you want to see the game for yourself: https://www.youtube.com/wat...

If your model is a bigger world with monthly content, the initial IP for this structure has to be great!
It doesn’t have to be long, and the cheapest the better, but it’s a good concept.
Create a game that’s solid and sell for cheap and offer monthly content for a price. But no one will buy it if the first entry is terrible.
