Two genres that continue to evolve (slowly but still) and continue to pull insane player numbers. What's the issue? Do you get this upset when game 23,048 features a TDM mode? Or when a racer features a track you've raced hundreds of times before on another game? The genre might be the same but none of them play the same.

Nope I don't disagree with you.... however, it's a big gamble for studios to make soulslike games as they are not very newbie friendly and statistically most people don't even finish them. I find that people that like this genre are VERY picky about how they play so if they are not top notch they hit the bargain bin quickly. This is a good one though.

I would absolutely be all over this game if it wasn’t a souls like. I hope we’re winding down on everything having the souls like tropes. Not that I want people who enjoy them not to have them, but I have passed on a ton of games that I loved the look and style of because I didn’t want to deal with the respawning enemies and constant boss battles. So far the only souls like that has grabbed me has been the surge 1 and 2. I enjoyed the system of taking parts from fallen enemies and upgrading, and the sci fi elements.

Surge is really unique. Also one of the better story’s in a souls like. The idea that you could attack certain parts of the body and then tear off the prosthetics and use them yourself was so cool to me. Hope you enjoy it.

I think saying “souls like” is narrowing it too much being that games like this have been around since silent hill, tomb raider, etc introduced us to third person games.
I guess I am saying that it has a great classic gameplay feel and is its own game.
And I get the vibe of the og silent hill more than a “souls game”.

I started my run and so far, a really solid upgrade over the first game.
Really has that classic gaming vibe.
NPC’s and enemies are very interesting and well crafted.
A little cheesy, but solid voice acting.
The fights are pushed to a higher level of mechanics than most other games of which is refreshing. Instead of two or three mechanics per enemy, enemies have more varied attacks.

I started on the easiest option of difficulty and definitely do not feel overwhelmed and the game is pulling me in. Already wanting to bump up the difficulty after completing my version of the game.
And yes… it feels like my version.
Was watching a first play through and once you go through the basic opening…
My game is completely different than what I watched unfold on YouTube.

Ie I am not a souls like player.
I was just looking for a good game to play.
This is living up to it so far.

I did not state that.
I said that it is the other way around.
A third person action adventure game with character and weapon crafting.
The point of said gaming is escalating enemy and boss fighting.
Improving your character to perform better.
That is the core of the game.
A formula that has been around for most of gaming.
Saying souls like is forgetting the formula that is far older than souls.
By stating what I stated, the last three tomb raiders were exactly that.
Oh Silent hill was exactly that.

Gun-Fire games are very underrated developers. They make fun to play games and unlike others they don’t take 5-7 years in between releases. It’s truly saddening that next fallout, elder scrolls, GTA, God of war etc are years away at the earlier and some maybe 10 years out. Awesome gaming IP’s shouldn’t go on these long hiatus

We must have a healthy AA market that can develop and release games within a 2-3 year cycle. During the PS2 and Xbox 360 generation we had a really healthy AA slate of publishers. Now you are either all in or indie

Remnant 1 was released 4 years ago. God of War:R was released 4 years after GOW 2018.

Gunfire Games also released Darksiders 3 in 2018 and Chronos: Before the Ashes - the non-VR version of their 2016 game Chronos - in 2019. That is the same amount of games that Sony Santa Monica developed since 2010. They definitely are producing their AA games faster than most AAA studios are releasing games. One exception is Insomniac where we are getting the third Spider-Man game in 6 years.

It's a shame they couldn't improve on the lore and characters because I found both very bland in the first game. However it's all about the gameplay and it sounds like they've made some good progress there.
