VGChartz's Evan Norris: "I know a lot of Switch owners are desperate to play the next mainline installment of Mario Kart, but I'm having trouble saying goodbye to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The slowly-unfolding parade of DLC courses over the past 16 months has been a lot of fun, and has helped me fall in love with Deluxe all over again. As we near the end of the "Booster Course" expansion pass, I find myself unwilling to let go.
What makes the upcoming separation particularly daunting is that each DLC batch seems to improve upon the last. The eight courses in Wave five, taken together, are marginally better than those in Wave four, which were already the best. Plus, this most recent release comes with three new playable racers: Petey Piranha, Wiggler, and Kamek."
It's a 2-for-1 on this week's chart, as the Golden Week holiday period takes Stellar Blade to the top spot, as well as some impressive Switch sales figures

Just ordered my copy yesterday, gets here today. I still haven't beat FF7 Rebirth, but I want to play Stellar Blade lol. So I'll just play both 🤷🏽 and Helldivers 2 🇺🇸

Mario Kart 8 came out for the Wii U in 2014 and became the best-selling game for the system by a sizeable margin, and later pulled the same magic trick on the Nintendo Switch under the stage name Deluxe. All in all, it's sold nearly 70 million copies over the last decade and is still selling like hot cakes to this day, so it’s no wonder Nintendo has been in no rush to replace it. However, with rumors of a new system being just around the corner, and reports a few years back that a new Mario Kart is indeed under way, it seems the era of 8 might very well be drawing to a close. It’s an exciting prospect to be sure, but after two Nintendo systems with Mario Kart 8 at their heart, a lot of questions remain about how Nintendo will choose to follow it up."
I hope they just keep building on Mario Kart 8; Add a track-creation tool, and probably open it up to more Nintendo IPs with new tracks and characters, so Metroid, Punch Out, Starfox, Animal Crossing, etc etc.
there wont be a new one until the switch 2 comes out.
