Konami Is The Only Publisher Truly Respecting Games Preservation

The only publisher that is consistently doing a phenomenal job with game preservation today is none other than Konami.

closed_account296d ago (Edited 296d ago )

Yea, for all the hate that Konami got in the post-Kojima departure.... I give them major props for their efforts in the retro game department! I love their Retro collections and have gladly bought all of them.

See, the way Konami has approached it has eliminated the need for Roms. I'll gladly pay for them if they are made available to us. It sweetens the deal when they add things like concept art & alternate international versions in the package.

*I'm only talking about retro from the 80's/90's, as it was my childhood.

MrBaskerville295d ago (Edited 295d ago )

I agree, they've done a good job with Castlevania, still would be nice with 2-3 more collections. Ds games, Chronicles and ps2/n64 games would be nice.

Soon we'll get Suikoden 1-2 and all off Metal Gear. They could do more, but so far they've done more than most. Which is surprising.

But as some mentioned, Capcom does it better. Ms, Square and Nintendo also deserves a mention, they've been good at making a wide variety of stuff available.

Flawlessmic296d ago (Edited 296d ago )

What lol, no just no.

I haven't been able to purchase any of the metal gear games outside of 5 for years now even though there was a hd version already made.

They are literally just selling us the same hd content that was made for ps3 basically, and took if off the market for no good reason at all, and now re packaging it with some extra stuff but no upgrades at all!!

Where can I buy silent Hill 1-4? Ohh that's right, I cant

I mean I love Konami games but this is the last thing I'd give them credit for.

Terry_B296d ago

The article is about the already RELEASED Konami Classic game Collections and compares them with collections by other companies.

GhostScholar296d ago

I was thinking the same thing.

MrBaskerville295d ago (Edited 295d ago )

I'm thinking that Silent Hill 1-4 might be realistic at some point. The way things are going they might even remember 0 and Shattered Memories.

But so far they've focused most on Castlevania.

shadowknight203295d ago (Edited 295d ago )

Your a funny dude. Your like HUH, "out of all the things, this is what u praise them for?!"

Anyway, valid arguments. Love the read.

LOL!! This is a joke, right. The only thing Konami is interested in preserving is its revenue from pachinko machines.

Christopher296d ago

So, we're just going to completely ignore Capcom collections and remakes?

closed_account296d ago

Yea, they went into it in the article, but it doesn't seem it was up to their standard. Their complaints seem to revolve around more recent "retro" from ps2 era forward.

I'm more concerned with earlier retro, so I love Capcom's collections. The Mega Man collections are so good, w plentiful concept art, music player, database.

The Contra collection is great. the arcade cabinet collections are great.

Christopher296d ago

I guess if we choose to ignore anything we want we can make any claim we want. There are almost 100 Capcom games being preserved across all their collections let alone keeping the more popular street fighter games playable on current generation hardware via BC. Then remaking past games to take advantage of new hardware instead of just sitting on them. It's a lot.

closed_account296d ago (Edited 296d ago )

lol I accidentally typed Contra here for Capcom... got my wires cross. XD

I liked the Beat'em'Up Collection, although I would have liked to see the SNES version of Final Fight, along w FF2 and 3.

I also liked the Fight Collection.

shinoff2183296d ago

Yes cause they are playing with me and not releasing anything breath of fire related or even remasters. I mean come on its my favorite series from them.

Christopher296d ago

Okay, this is a valid complaint. I also agree with your sentiment.

Should have happened a long time ago. People wanting refunds after 50 hours in game.

fsfsxii5h ago

Pc gamers will take this as an excuse to pirate things

KyRo5h ago

I'm not sure why you're getting disgrees. Whilst not all PC gamers are petty, an awful lot of them are lol

Crows905h ago

Entirely untrue. Not any more petty than console gamers. The only large difference is console gamers don't have much of a choice.

qalpha5h ago

Daily reminder that 'TheGamer' is a corporate-generated, anti-gamer, anti-consumer, clickbait web site. They are mostly A.I. generated articles that villainize gamers. They provide nothing positive and actively try to provoke and divide the community through extreme view points and politics. Do not give them any clicks.

Inverno5h ago

Only scumbags? As if people don't play their games on console put in the most amount of hours and return it to GameStop and trade it in for another game. But also how many people are actually do this? And what games have been allowed to be refunded?

DustMan5h ago

You can refund any game you've purchased as long as it hasn't been longer than two weeks, and you've played less than 2 hours. I wish they would change it to 3 hours because some RPG's have so much exposition that you may only get an hour total of complete gameplay. That's my only knock on it. I've refunded plenty of stuff I was just curious to try. I typically stay away from Early Access titles which are the only ones affected by this policy change.

Inverno4h ago

Apparently early access doesn't count, only complete games with a play early preorder bonus.

Gaming4Life19815h ago

I definitely know if I want a refund in 2 hours.

Cacabunga1d 1h ago

Hopefully doesn’t take them a complete gen to release it

TheColbertinator19h ago

Good. Something not boring, not one of those "make your own game" crap and also on Steam would be nice.

I too like to look for things in the wrong places.

"the capital group of PCF Group S.A."

If you're getting funding from a group that needs two different ways of Acronyming itself, things will not go the way you want them to.

banger881d 22h ago

If it was more online-only crap then good riddance.

jjb19811d 9h ago

Outriders was crap. They slapped that game together and threw in a loot system to get players' attention. This game was absolutely jank and the always online nonsense made it stutter like crazy. People Can't Optimize.

thorstein1d 7h ago

I liked Outriders but I could see where the artistic vision was compromised. The way the industry is now, it wouldn't surprise me that upper management would scrap something that didn't pull in money via gaas, mts, or other means.
