Kiryu's New VA Asks Yakuza Fans to Wait for Like a Dragon to Come Out Before Passing Judgment

Long-time Yakuza protagonist Kazuma Kiryu has a new English voice actor for Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, and fans are unsure about Yong Yea's performance.

I am pretty sure that playing Yakuza games in English is a violation of the Geneva convention.

I love Judgment for reintroducing English dub to the series

LOGICWINS683d ago

I can't imagine playing the Yakuza games in Japanese anymore. The English VAs for Like A Dragon 1 and both Judgment games are fantastic!

porkChop683d ago

Bro Like a Dragon's English dub was excellent. They even got Will Yun Lee. Not sure why they changed voice actors for Kiryu though. I like Yong Yea but he'll have to really knock it out of the park for people to accept the sudden change.

He will knock it out of the park on this one. That means more subscribers to his Youtube channel. It’s great Youtubers are involved in the industries they are reporting.

DarXyde682d ago

He did a great job as Father Pucci. He's definitely got enough range where, if you don't see the credits, you'd never know it's him.

RedDevils681d ago

Who care, as long as they have Jap audio and I'm ok so switch between dub or sub.

plmkoh682d ago

Complaining about English voices in a game where the characters are supposed to exclusively speak Japanese is like complaining you ate a terrible shit burger but not because of the literal shit but because there wasn't enough cheese.

goldwyncq682d ago

What is it with people making food metaphors and always using shit as an ingredient?

Tankbusta40682d ago

Bunch of Shooter McGavins!

CDbiggen682d ago

Most of us won't even have to think about it, Japanese has always been the way to go for these games.

VersusDMC682d ago

Here is the comparison video between the english voice actors

Yong's is inferior in my opinion.

But i don't really care that much as i will always go with Japanese VO as their voices are ingrained in my mind after so many entries...i don't even want to hear the english VO for majima say kiryu-chan as i suspect i will die of cringe.😆

Yong kiryu voice doesn’t fit very well for this older kiryu but could have work in Yakuza 0, and 1.

Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name? Insta buy.

Like a Dragon: Turd Based Shenanigans? Pass or on a deep and I do mean deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ep deep deep sale. And only if I feel that $20 burning a hole in my digital wallet and I have nothing else to buy...

andy85682d ago

Yakuza 7 was probably my favourite one in the series. Turn based fits great. As proven by the reviews and sales (best reviewed in the series I think?)

SimpleSlave682d ago (Edited 682d ago )

I know Yakuza 7 was your favorite bud. And I know you like to use payed opinions and sales to validate your own opinions and arguments. Good for you kid. I only see good things in your future for sure...

But here's the thing, and do try to keep up. The Yakuza series was never a Turd Based game now was it? No it wasn't. It was always about having control of your character. Then they took that away to cater to...well, people like you. I would ask you to imagine something so mediocre, heinous, horrifying, and retrograde happening to your favorite IPs, especially after you stuck around and supported them since the beginning, but something tells me it would fly over your head and it would just be a big waste of my time to even try.

Sooooo...Anyways!

Hopefully SEGA comes to their senses and start developing Yakuza games into Pay to Win, Lootbox riddled, Online only, Season stained, Pachinko only, Looter Shooter, GAAS games. It'll probably sell even better. But we won't know until they try now would we?

So here's hoping...🤞🤞

I mean not really? The User score is really good and there are loads of 0 and 1/10 scores which reference the new combat which is nonsense. And I can't believe people still think games only score high because their review is paid. If that was the case MS with 10x the money of Sony wouldn't have let Redfall be a review disaster.

No it was never a turn* based game. ..They tried something new and guess what? It works. Game was fantastic and a success. I've been a fan of Yakuza since Yakuza 3 in 2009 and have platinumed 9 of the games, so yeah I guess you can say it's one of my favourite IPs considering I've put more effort into it than 99% of people. You seem incredibly triggered by my simple comment 😂😂 "kid"...I'm nearly 40 years old and there's only one person here who sounds like one.

RedDevils681d ago

Yakuza 7 should be it own series, Kiryu Yakuza should stay action as all other Yakuza.

WayTooManyGames' Top 20 Best Games of 2023

WTMG's Leo Faria: "Ah, 2023. You were a chaotic year in terms of wars, climate change, politics, and other bad news, but when it came to gaming, yet again, despite all odds, you were still able to deliver. Even though games got delayed, Nintendo Switch ports got sent out in the wild running at 10 frames a second, companies got shut down, and publishers tried to come up with new ways to make us fear for the future of the industry, a barrage of great games kept being released at a delightful pace all throughout 2023."
