Two consoles outselling one released some 22 years ago?

Jin_Sakai298d ago

I find it funny how everyone adds two console sales together with one being only $299.

DiRtY298d ago

Introduction price of the GameCube: $199.

S2Killinit298d ago

@DiRtY
Yeah 22 years ago. Series would have been $149.

343_Guilty_Spark298d ago

So then normalize the price if it bothers you so much

$299 @ 70%

$500 @ 30%

~ $360

S2Killinit297d ago

Not to mention that the gaming market is much larger today than it was 22 years ago. Not even a fair comparison.

Let alone a mainstream market vs a niche market at the time discussion here. I guess it's a metric you can identify but it doesn't really tell us that much, does it?

Hofstaderman298d ago

Exactly in 2001 people were buying ps2 because of the dvd drive it was cheaper than buying a dedicated dvd player. The ultimate Trojan horse.

Switch outsold everything else under the sun and series x is just now outselling one of Nintendos lower selling consoles?

Jin_Sakai298d ago

Just picked up the Zelda OLED Switch. Been playing Metroid Prime remaster and downloaded the Pikmin 4 demo which is also great.

UltimateOwnage298d ago

I can’t wait to play the Prime remaster. The Switch has an insane amount of amazing games. Tears of the Kingdom is still keeping me busy after 100 hours.

Jin_Sakai298d ago

Metroid Prime remaster is one of the best FPS of all time. The remaster looks and played amazing. It’s surprisingly a locked 60fps also. Quite a technical achievement on Switch.

poppatron298d ago

The new Zelda is every bit as good as people say. I’m going to say something renegade here… banjo kazoie nuts and bolts is one of my favourite games, the building mechanic in TotK reminds me of is so bad. Love solving puzzles that way

ChasterMies298d ago

Switch hasn’t outsold the DS yet. The DS remains the top dedicated gaming handheld of all time with 154 million sold! Amazingly, the top selling dedicating gaming device is a home console, the PS2 with a staggering 158 million sold!

So excited picking up a mint one this evening just to play FF3, FF4 and chrono trigger in bed.

Cockney298d ago

Series x? You misunderstand it's both series s and x bolted together vs a relative failure of a console from Nintendo, go xbox yay

anast298d ago

Next it will be "the S and SX" outsells the ColecoVision. I will say it again, ChatGPT can write articles like this. There is no need to pay someone not to be aware.

EasilyTheBest298d ago

It's already outsold the CBS Colecovision....

NotoriousWhiz298d ago

These types of articles show up every time a console passes some older console in sales. It's nothing new.

anast298d ago

That's my point. This information can be culled via AI, it offers nothing of use.

jznrpg298d ago

I loved Colecovision because it had Time Pilot

anast298d ago

I had a wide variety of games. I think it would hold up today.

aaronaton298d ago

The GameCube will go down in history though, in 10yrs time, I can't see the series console selling for much on eBay for instance.

Zelda Replay: Majora's Mask

VGChartz's Evan Norris: "Is Ocarina of Time as legendary as I remembered it? For the most part, yes. In spite of a handful of missteps — a few obtuse puzzles, some tedious backtracking, and a clunky stealth sequence — I don't believe the last 23 years have been unkind to it. Ocarina remains a brilliant example of the medium, a landmark game that shaped the future of its own franchise and 3D gaming in general. After more than two decades it retains its inventive dungeon design, challenging puzzles, dynamic combat, wistful storyline, unforgettable music, and empowering open-air freedom. I feel confident calling it one of the greatest games of the fifth generation, even if I'm no longer prepared to list it among the five best games ever made."

Pure unadulterated fun. They don't make them like this anymore...especially not the triple A industry.
