The difference here in some places you can still pre-order it on their store (in the UK anyway), it's not like the FF Pixel Remastered edition for example.

Compared to God of War or Horizon FW where they almost went out of stock straight away

It's not good value for money, it's literally the statue and that's it, at least God of War and Horizon despite having digital only collectors editions had other goodies alongside their big statue or replica.

Hopefully people are waking up to this digital only collectors edition bullshit.

$300 here in Canada for a statue, an empty steelbook and some digital rewards (along with the digital code of the game). That's a ridiculous price if you ask me (basically $210 for the statue, steelbook and some costumes).

CrimsonWing69725d ago

factor in it's the digital deluxe version of the game and the statue looks pretty beefy, that all comes out to about the right price. Hell, this is one of the better priced CE's. Usually you're looking at $300 or in the case of FF16, it was $400... and i've seen the statue for FF16, it's not that good.

Neonridr725d ago

@CrimsonWing69 - the first Spiderman came with the actual physical game, a steelbook, statue, artbook and digital goodies. Not to mention it was about $100 cheaper.

“the first Spiderman came with the actual physical game, a steelbook, statue, artbook and digital goodies. Not to mention it was about $100 cheaper.”

I mean, statues are expensive, man. I’ve seen things like this cost $200+ just literally for a statue.

It’s also a much bigger statue.

To be honest, this isn’t an unreasonable price. We’re talking $250. It’s in-line with the MK1 CE. The only collectors edition I think is absurdly priced is the FF16 one… I mean if you look up the unboxing for that one, I really feel like Square took advantage of their hardcore fans.

This one, I personally find justified in the price.

Neonridr724d ago

@CrimsonWing69 - I just feel like they are slowly trying to milk more out of us. I mean TLOU2 had a huge Ellie statue, Horizon 1 came with a pretty big Aloy. Even God of War had a pretty large one. Sure the original Spiderman one was a little small.

I'd love to know people are waking up to collectors editions as a whole. They're never good value for money. Full of cheap trash and over charged for

CobraKai725d ago

They used to be. PS360 days would net you, maybe, one nice DLC exclusive something, steel book WITH THE ACTUAL DISC INSIDE, and other collectibles for a cheap ass price of $10 extra.

It ain’t even worth what they’re asking for today.

Knushwood Butt725d ago

I recently sold my Gravity Rush / Gravity Daze collecter edition, with a model of the main character, for more than double what I paid for it on release.

staticall725d ago

Collector's edition without a game, but with a steelbook. Statue looks cool and all, but what's the point of steelbook, troll the unaware customers? «Here's a steelbook. What, you can't find a physical disc? Guess you gotta buy another copy, that'll be $70 »

Amplitude725d ago (Edited 725d ago )

The only argument I can think of is that now PS5 Digital owners can buy the collectors edition but... what sort of wack PS5 Digital owner wants to buy a physical collectors edition of a game?

They're just saving a couple bucks on the production of the disc here cause they know they can get away with it and it'll still sell out. Total cash-grab garbage tbh

staticall725d ago

You bring up a good point (about digital-only PS5 owners), but still, why would they need a steelbook?

I also agree with you that they're just saving a few bucks. It reminds me when some publishers started putting a piece of paper instead of actual instruction books. And now they're not putting anything (at least my PS5 Demon's Souls copy just had the disc and nothing else). Gotta save every penny, i guess.

CrimsonWing69725d ago

That's the thing that doesn't make sense.

I'm assuming if you get a digital console you're somewhat of a minimalist or don't want physical media taking up space. Who would be buying a big-ass CE that doesn't like physical media. I also don't see why they can't do a digital version of the CE and physical version? They'll do two types of CEs with different wooden figurines ala God of War Ragnarok, but they can't offer a disc version of a CE?

-Foxtrot725d ago

"what sort of wack PS5 Digital owner wants to buy a physical collectors edition of a game?"

EXACTLY

That's the argument

Sure there's some digital only gamers who want to buy these but they are in the minority, most digital only gamers have a digital console because they don't like "clutter"

Get this though, and think of the "logic" here

They don't buy physical games, which means no PS5 game cases are on their shelf however they will gladly take a Steelbook...you know, fancier game packaging for physical discs which sit on your shelf.

If they won't take a game box why would they take a steelbook

Neonridr725d ago

I guess you can put the case on your shelf to remind you that you do, in fact, own the game. :P

not sure what the point of the steelbook is if the game isnt even in it haha.

but, some people lose their sh*t over stuff like that. never saw the appeal. especially not for that price point lol
