Game Pass and PS Plus subscriptions have stalled as video game sales surge

Rather than being the future of gaming it seems services like Game Pass and PS Plus are suffering the same problems as TV subscriptions.

Exactly, I think at this point we're seeing around the 20million max sub count.
I just don't see subs hitting 50m or 100m at least not until another 10/20 plus years.

I only got the base sub of ps+ just for online and deals for a bonus as well as cloud saves. If it wasnt for needing online I wouldnt even have a sub.

The day Game Pass manages 4 AAAs a year is the day the cost goes up, too.

I would agree with you but the amount of patches needed for a physical release these days have really put me off.

I'd personally be perfectly fine waiting for some games to patch themselves then releasing a physical, but there's still a decent amount that don't need but majority do sadly.

On PS5 the vast majority of games are totally playable without the need for patches.

On XBS that isn't the case, that's true but I was referring only to PlayStation systems. Switch is offline friendly too.

I love that I am finding indie and other types of games on Playstation Plus Premium. In the last year I have spent well over 300 hours playing games I discovered on PPP . Well worth the 60 dollars .

Yes it is, but under certain circumstances, and in no way is it a replacement for buying what you want when you want it.

Subs are only good so long as one understands that he maybe paying more for the same amount of gaming unless one limits his gaming to what is available on the sub at the time.

When one is constantly buying video games such as myself, there's really no need for subscription services. For me, it's just an option.

I don't have the time for all the games I bought on sale as it is, there's no way I could fit in a subscription service, even PS Plus Essential is overkill for me.

makes me wonder about the sustainability of gamepass. if subs have stalled, what does that mean for big budget AAA first-party games on the service. or third-party deals. how much money is prepared to be put into these services to keep them afloat?

Yeah it makes you wonder how much a big AAA game is going to move the needle in terms of subscriptions. I would have thought not much at all but what do I know.

I'll never jump ship I'll just add steam deck or something similar to ride for the games but apparently the publishers they buying i dont play there games to begin with except maybe 1 or 2.

PlayStation doesn't put it's games on PS+ day one, so PS players typically buy more games. But also I believe that Xbox players are more and more finding that the games they actually want to buy arent on Gamepass. So you have to ask yourself, do I opt to sign up, when all the new games I want aren't on it

It becomes more apparent when you you have publishers releasing big name games and refusing to put it on GamePass. A massive upcoming example of this would be Take Two with Grand Theft Auto 6.
