RPGFan: "Despite the cartography being less enjoyable than on DS, this remaster is still the best way to experience once of the best Etrian Odyssey games...as long as you play in handheld mode!"
Atlus' re-release of the first three games in the series through Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection isn’t the ideal compilation for these classic portable RPGs, but it’s the best one that we’re likely to get.
The recent push towards revitalizing the past is certainly welcome. Even if new experiences are preferred, it’s always nice seeing these titles find a second life on modern platforms. In the case of Etrian Odyssey, it also makes a lot of sense. With the series complete, it’s a good opportunity to bring the adventure forward for a new generation to enjoy. Given the hit/miss nature of this genre, is Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection a fantastic package, or does it miss the mark?
“Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection is a great compilation of dungeon crawlers but one that will require a substantial amount of patience to play through so if you're up to the task, it can be one highly rewarding package that'll stay with you for a very long time.” - A.J. Maciejewski from Video Chums.
