The Lord of the Rings: Gollum captured the headlines for all the wrong reasons - and despite the 1.3 patch, the game remains in a dire state.
What comical is, it doesn't look like gollum. It's weird asf and it runs awful while being an awful game. Possibly the worst full priced game ever reviewed.
It's definitely getting a WGOTY nomination.
Saw gameplay of this a month ago and knew it was going to be shit, just trying to bank on the name. I didn't even want to rent it.
The development team behind the panned The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, Daedalic Entertainment, is shutting down.
That didn't take long at all.
That's a shame, but they should have at least done more to release the game in a better state.
They really should have stuck to point and click adventures... they made quite a few decent ones over the years.
They should have done market research — the public reaction to even the idea of the game was quite negative right from the start. This was a game nobody asked for or wanted, even aside from the bugs.
I hate to see studios close but they made a really bad game. The studio has actually never made a decent game from what I’ve seen.
Pillars of the earth was good
I liked their older games (Edna breaks out, Deponia series, Silence) which were 90s style adventure games. But this is such a niche and maybe to most nowadays outdated form of games, you rarely win over the majority of reviewers if it isn't a extraordinary life changing experience or build on nostalgia.
Deponia wasn't decent?
Pity. But whoever greenlit a gollum game? It's the laast character that anyone will play anyway. There's literally an array of other characters in lotr world. Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, gimli etc..
The LotR IP has been in terrible hands ever since Christopher Tolkien died. EVERYTHING gets geenlit regardless of quality...this game, that terrible Amazon series, and likely endless other bad ideas to come.
I couldn’t agree more.
not really sure what to say about this, or how to word it. I'm sympathetic to those who lost a job, but also the studio was just very dumb. Too ambitious when they lacked the talent, and a clear direction. The price and the fact it was broken really didn't help either. A real shame
Whoever has the rights to Lord of the Rings and is making decisions must be an idiot. They chose this game company for not 1 but 2 lord of the ring games when they have never put out a AAA game. They are mostly known for point and click or visual novels and their other games have ps2 era graphics so it's no wonder we saw that in Gollum.
They shooted too high for their experience and kind of games they were known for.
I was waiting for the DLC 😭 (said no one ever).
So instead of fixing the issues they decided to run. Cowards.
lol what?. Waste money they likely don't have on something no one will play? If something is this broken, you should just move on.
People bought the game so the devs ran off instead of fixing it for them.
So they won't be making a sequel?
Played Gollum for like an hour thinking it would be a "so bad it's funny" kinda thing but maaan it really broke me
Not surprised at all, Gollum is one of the worst games in a long while.
That’s too bad . Daedalic made some decent games in the past. One bad game can crush most devs. If Xbox didn’t have MS daddy money they would have shut down already.
Lmao when did these mfs make games anyways
I have a slight sympathy for studios shutting down but when you make abysmal games nobody asked for its your own fault for closure.
