Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the recently announced remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, will reuse the voice lines from the original game with no changes, according to Tommy Williams, Konami’s head of communications for the Americas
At this point it's clear that it'll be a very conservative remake. Probably a smart decision to minimize the degrees of freedom. It just means they're less ways for them to screw this up. Fans of the original will be hypercritical and go over every change with a fine-tooth comb and Konami probably realizes that. People still criticize Twin Snakes for the rerecorded voicelines.
If visible assets are being remade with modern sensibilities, it's a remake, if the visible assets are the same, just presented in higher res and performance it's a remaster. Really ain't that hard. There are lesser and greater forms of remakes, and some that are re-imagined like FFVII, but they are all still remakes
You must not be familiar with the PS4 game that was literally called The Last of Us Remastered... that was a Remaster.
The Last of Us Part 1 is a 1:1 Remake. I don't know how in the hell people got this crazy idea that a Remake can't be 1:1 and somehow has to be radically different than the original.
I mean Geezus I can't tell you how weird it is that people can't grasp this:
"From PlayStation Studios and Bluepoint Games comes a remake of the PlayStation classic, Demon’s Souls. Entirely rebuilt from the ground up and masterfully enhanced, this remake introduces the horrors of a fog-laden, dark fantasy land to a whole new generation of gamers. Those who’ve faced its trials and tribulations before, can once again challenge the darkness in stunning visual quality with incredible performance."
You mean the remaster sitting in my entertainment center right now?
I'll rephrase. They mildly updated a PS4 remaster of a PS3 game, and yet they all feel the same because, at the end of the day, they all are; outside of some superfluous nothings used to justify a large corporation wanting to release the same content three times in less than a decade, with minimal effort, because money. The newest thing about that release was it coming to PC, and we all saw that they apparently couldn't handle that.
Because the semantics of 'remake' or remaster end up costing us, the customer, more money. But devs can be lazy - rebuild assets - call it a remake and suddenly its a full priced game.
In reality the work done for a real remake ala RE2 is much more work than demons souls, and WAY more the TLOU part 1.
MGS3 is a remake - but realistically a remaster with more work put into it.
Thats okay I think...just wish there was tiered pricing.
TLOU part 1 should have been 50 quid, demons souls 60 quid - RE2 I get it being full price. Ya know? Even if they didn't need to redo the story, its completely a different game with the same tone as the original. Same with RE4. Its just...completely different. Somehow they made RE4 closer to RE2 in a remake.
Theres nothing to regulate reselling the same game over and over again - I can't even count how many super mario bros 3 re releases with slightly updated graphics there has been.
Don’t take this the wrong way, we’re all friends here and I know tone can come off like sh*t through just text, but did you ever think that maybe The Last of Us Remake wasn’t for you?
I feel that people forget people are just coming into gaming all the time, like literally just starting or getting to an age where they can play Mature content.
A game doesn’t have to be made for you. If you’re happy with the PS3 version, then by all means, play that version till the cows come home.
The Remake was made for people that wanted a current-gen version of the game and for people that may just now be getting into The Last of Us.
Again, I’m not trying to take a dig at you when I say this, but that’s some serious selfish thinking to think otherwise.
Regardless of your feeling for the Remaster or Remake, these games are not made for you. Enjoy the old versions, but believe this, The Last of Us Part 1 wasn’t “minimal effort”, that just shows me that you have no idea what goes into game design, programming, and modeling/rigging/animating.
TLOU Part 1 on PS5 is not a remake. It's literally the exact same game with slightly prettier graphics. Remaking a game means.....remaking it, not just tweaking the graphics engine.
Demon's Souls on PS5 is also not a real remake. It's a remaster. The game mechanics including controls are 1:1 from PS3 and all of the levels, enemy locations, and AI is the exact same. You can still only roll in cardinal directions.
Remakes are complete ground up recreations, with added, removed, and reimagined content. And publishers know that there's no law about saying "remake" vs "remaster". They know that saying "remake" makes more money.
I don't get the point in re-recording lines when the original is already great. We've seen the screenshots, it's a remake. Still find it dumb that people still don't know the difference between a remake or remaster. The HD release they are releasing in the collection alongside this is a remaster, this is a remake.
It’s pretty much a perfect game. Also what do you mean glorified remaster there is a clear distinction between the 2. TLOU is a complete remake with 2023 visuals just like RE4. A remaster is completely different
Fix the cameo system where it automatically changes to the environment when in hiding
Make it a better shooter with 2023 controls
Reduce loading
Overall better visuals
More accessibility options
Story and dialogue don’t need to change anyway
Do we know what engine they are using for the remake?
The way I look at it is that there are 2 types of remakes. A remake that reimagines the game and modifies the level design, gameplay and voices, and a remake that keeps the game the same but with modified textures to make it look modern, like Halo 2 anniversary or Demon Souls. A remaster is just a port with a higher resolution and fps, basically what the game would've looked like at max settings on pc at the time, an upgrade but not a remake.
"I guess my standards for a remake is more than a little visual update"
Sadly our own beliefs and feelings don't change the definitions of words. If it was remade, it's a remake. Some struggle with the concept of there being different types of remakes.
That's good I guess, I wonder if there's any unused voice lines they can include as well, or are they going with 1:1 voice/story with some change to the environment here and there?
The mire i hear the more i wonder if this is actually a remake
or a glorified remaster like the last of us on ps5
I'm just excited to see the Ocelot gun twirl in high definition.

I’m assuming they’re doing this to also set a precedent for future remakes
The voice actors for Roy Campbell & Liquid Snake in Japanese and Solidus Snake in English died and it’ll be a tall order getting replacements for them
Whaat? With AI out there? That’s just being lazy.
