Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake Devs On Whether Kojima Is Involved and Why They Picked This Game

IGN had the chance to speak with the team behind the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, and they discussed whether Hideo Kojima or Yoji Shinkawa had any involvement in the project, if there will be more remakes from the Metal Gear series, and more.

I'm not surprised. Kojima doesn't want anything to do with Konami anymore

just_looken126d ago

And he is no doubt banned from there company buildings.

blackbeld126d ago

“There wasn't much hope that Kojima was going to be a part of the project, especially after his breakup with Konami, but it was a question nonetheless.

We also asked if Yoji Shinkawa was involved, as he was integral in the art of the Metal Gear Solid series and is now working with Kojima at Kojima Productions.

"They are not involved," a Konami spokesperson said. "However, the development team will work hard to create this remake and also the ports (for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection) so that they can be enjoyed on multiple platforms by even more players all around the world."

Wow…This a very big pill to swallow for Kojima.

lets see what happens, honestly Im very skeptical about Konami handling the project and others like Silen Hill, still I hope it turns out great game experiences.

No kojima, no buy. Unless it’s a port of 4

AlphaKennyTime126d ago

Kojima is not your friend. Corporations are not your friends. Drone mentality.

Silver_ShadoWolf126d ago

Ok. So you shouldn’t buy brands that you like. Don’t buy food you like because it’s big corp. you know what? No more next gen consoles for you. Consoles are from big corporations. You can’t like anything outside of what you make in your own home. See how ridiculous that sound? That’s basically what you’re saying. 🤦🏽‍♂️

AlphaKennyTime115d ago

Bad strawman. There's a difference between researching a product before buying it based on its quality, price, etc. and outright refusing a product because one person left a company. Maybe it will be a good game. Maybe it will be a bad game. Just wait and see.

Strange126d ago

No Kojima, no MGS.
Just remember what happened to Survive.

MehmetAlperTR126d ago

Exactly.. No Hideo No MGS !!!!

CDbiggen126d ago

But this is looking like a 1:1 remake/remaster, like the Metroid Prime Remaster, in which case it's all going to still be Kojimas work. They're using the same voice cast which means to me that they're just using the old recordings, which means no changes to Kojima's script. You'll get some QOL improvements and good graphics.

DarkkMinion126d ago

Do you personally know Kojima? Seems like you two are pals or something. If Konami delivers the same untouched story and material with revamped graphics I don't see why people will not play it.

"We then asked why the team chose to start with Metal Gear Solid 3 as opposed to the first Metal Gear Solid, and it all seemed to boil down to the fact that this third entry is actually the spark of the larger Metal Gear tale"

They actually mean the work was 60% done by kojimas old team for the plachinco machine but we now are making it run on next gen systems. Do you start from scratch or start with alot of stuff finished.

We could have had this remake 6yrs ago :(

I wonder if they will remove the load screens? I kind of hope they do.

Tankbusta40108d ago

"In addition, the game will likely lack the bizarre charm, humor, and depth that can only be found in games that Kojima himself worked on."

If its a remake that stays loyal to the source material how is this an issue?

Kojima cultists are wacky

jznrpg108d ago

If they change the script that’s where they would f up big time. They would be stupid to do that

Try not to pivot from the smartest enemies ever to zombies.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Has the Perfect Chance To Follow Up on a Major Revelation

With a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 on the horizon, game developers have a chance to tie in one of the series' biggest narrative reveals.

Syphos114d ago

Just remake the game, don't add anything I don't trust Konami to change anything and pull it off properly at the same time.

So no thanks :>

bababooiy114d ago

God no, the studio in charge of this has made 2 games so far both of which were awful. I dont want these people to be rewriting anything. Just give us better visuals/controls and thats it.

Abear21114d ago

Giant snakes hiding in caves, this was the scariest part of the game, think I’ll pass on this one bc I can’t take that jump scare again l. 100 serious

Not a good idea, and here's why:

- This is a medium budget remake, its going to be as close to 1:1 as possible from the PS2 game. This isn't a re-imagining like FF7 or RE 2 / 3 / 4. This is cheap-ass Konami, not actually willing to add much budget to their games, but only willing to go so far as to profit off nostalgia and not much more.

- The game is using the PS2-era voice acting, so adding new dialog or lore would feel out of place with the old recordings from 2003 - 2004.

- Changing the cut-scenes and the lore by adding new characters who don't belong in the background is absurd.

- This doesn't even make sense for a forward-progressing linear game. Only a few locations do you return to, you're not going to see the clean-up crew for most of the game anyway.

- Its a bad idea, the clean-up crew most likely arrived AFTER the mission was complete (and Snake flew away on the MIG), they're not actually tailing Snake throughout the entire freakin' mission. That's just a stupid concept all around.
