Redfall Review: Arkane Studios falls from grace | PC Mag

Zack writes: "Redfall is Microsoft’s first $69.99 PC game (it's the same price on the Xbox Series S/X). Unfortunately, the game fundamentally fails at almost every turn. Redfall is ugly, runs poorly, features shallow gameplay, and suffers from just about every bug and glitch imaginable.

To say it's the worst game I’ve ever played would be hyperbolic, but it's easily the worst game of the year so far. Unlike recent misses such as Minecraft Legends, Redfall doesn't even start strong.

At its best, it's boring; at its worst, it's broken. Make no mistake: Redfall is a bad game."

Of course they fell from their grace. They’re under Microsoft’s umbrella now.

italiangamer710d ago

Man, chill out. You slaughtered them 🗿.

Heard it has under 200 players daily, and its what, a couple weeks old

KillBill710d ago

Anyone saying Redfall is "boring" hasn't actually played Redfall. For sure it has some issues... but being boring is not one of them.

LabRat709d ago (Edited 709d ago )

I played Redfall, it is boring. Maybe the boredom comes for the horrendous AI that indie devs do a better job of making, but the game to me was indeed boring.

KillBill707d ago

You played it for a couple of hours as you admit. You didn't even get out of the tutorial mode. And yet you are nothing but talking about how bad the game is when you have barely even touched it. Why would anyone care what your opinion is on a game you really haven't even touched?

Psychonaut85709d ago

I always wonder how many of the devs at these studios are like, “this isnt ready, this is gunna be a disaster”, and they’re told “ shut up, do your job, it’s gunna be fine” by their boss. Now they’re just sitting there like “we tried to f$&king tell you”. Must suck to see something you poured years of your career into get shit on and thrown on the dung heap because your boss wouldn’t allow you to finish it.

Concord, Suicide Squad, Fairgame$ And ‘Vibes-Based’ Failures

Paul Tassi: "Sony recently reiterated its commitment to live service games with one big hit last year (Helldivers 2), one big cancellation (The Last of Us Factions) and one big failure (Concord). It’s no great surprise it is continuing down this road, given the way the industry is trending and the limited shelf life of its famed single player games. But it immediately made me think of a game that Sony is allegedly releasing that I have to believe is pre-destined to fail, Fairgame$."

Alos88115d ago

Fairgame$ feels like it's destined to flop out the gate- that initial trailer felt full of that same instantly-dated 'fight The Man with a ragtag team of weirdos' energy that was prevalent in Sega's Hyenas (which they wisely cancelled.) Unlike Marathon I just don't see this standing a chance.

Nacho_Z115d ago

It will definitely flop, missed the boat by a couple of years. Agreed that Marathon has a decent chance of succeeding it looks genuinely good and interesting.

It can't be sustainable having all these expensive GaaS being DOA being balanced by the odd modest success like Helldivers. The aim is to find the new Fortnite or whatever but it's highly unlikely and seems to be a massive waste of money.

Concord and the Other Biggest Flops of This Generation

Some of the biggest success stories in the history of gaming have happened during this generation of gaming. At the same time, some of the biggest flops in the history of gaming have also happened during this generation of gaming. To this end, a few games particularly stick out as, unfortunately, disastrous flops for those who made the games, sold the games, and ultimately, for many that played the games.

What a strange, short list. There have been many more games that arrived DOA, were never released, didn’t make their budget back, etc. Why cherry pick these games? Is this list based on the size of internet hate boners?

EternalTitan232d ago

These flops have a similarity that you may not be allowed to point out.

Skull and Bones gets my vote, at this point just completely remake AC Black Flag. If the Concord developers had made the game free to play, and toned down the in your face messaging via the mods and design choices, this game could have been serviceable eventually. I never understand why pandering to 5% of your audience and giving the finger to the other 95% seems like a good idea to these people. They never seem to learn. Disney has lost 1/3rd of its value and they keep doubling down on political messaging. I don’t get it.

BlackTar187232d ago

Some of these companies are paid huge amounts of money to do this stuff. They get truck loads of money to give “the message”
By blackrock and vanguards and multiple other venture capitalists even though it’s been proven over and over they fail.

I'm not interested in this game but i think it's great they added the offline mode for those who are.

darthv72331d ago

It was okay at first... once they added the performance update it was definitely better.

TwoPicklesGood332d ago

Bury this turd. It’s only good as a reminder of what devs shouldn’t do.

mkis007331d ago

I hate the concept of an announced final update.
