Mortal Kombat 12 Revealed As Mortal Kombat 1

Warner Bros. Games and NetherRealm Studios have officially revealed that a rebooted Mortal Kombat 1 will arrive in September for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Did they finally switch to UE4?
Or are they still rocking the modded-UE3?

blackbeld128d ago

Does that really matter? Gameplay is the most important. As long as it’s fighting good I will buy it. I still play my old street fighter 2 turbo on my super nes once a week.

It's on the switch so I haven't much hope but hopefully the switch version doesn't hamper the new generation console versions and its just a different version game. Hopefully it looks significantly better than the last mortal kombat and I hope the developers fully utilize the new generation gaming consoles.

Sgt_Slaughter127d ago

@blackbeld Gameplay is the most important, but the longer they stay on old engines, the more future games suffer.

Gameplay is held back by the limitations of older engines, so upgrading to UE5 is needed.

With this only being a cinematic trailer, i'm thinking gameplay reveal at the PS Showcase next week?

abstractel127d ago

I think either right? Not sure about the dislikes for Vengeance1138's comment. Like someone else mentioned, Sony does own Evo so it would make sense for them to show it off there. However, could be that Warner Brothers think releasing during Sony's Showcase would have it get less attention than if they released it on Summerfest. Any developer willing to show their game on the same day as titles like Spider-Man 2, possibly a glimpse of Wolverine, Naughty Dog's TLOU multiplayer game, what Suckerpunch has been up to (hopefully), and whatever else they have up their sleeve as they've been so quiet, would be brave. I know the MK franchise is huge, MK11 sold at least 12 million copies, but still.

Usually the fatalies are pretty similar... i hope that last one we saw makes it into the game

abstractel127d ago (Edited 127d ago )

I think that's a safe bet. All fatalities and most of the movies in the MK11 CG trailer were in the game.

Also, given that it's new-gen only with the except for Switch, it's likely the Switch version is a streaming version or (less likely in my opinion) outsourced which has never really turned out that well (with the exception of MK9 on Vita which was decent).

I'm actually pumped to see what they can do on new-gen only hardware. For its flaws, MK11 was an absolutely incredibly looking game. That it and MKX were made for the same generation is incredible, so I'm hoping they knocked it out of the park with MK1.

It's more likely to be at Summer Games Fest. If they were going to be at the PS Showcase next week they'd have waited to announce it.

Vengeance1138128d ago (Edited 128d ago )

Naw, it's almost a lock i'd think for Sony Showcase. Fighting games are a cornerstone for Sony, they own EVO and the vast majority of fighting games are always exclusive to PlayStation. Summer Games Fest is none of that.

Anything related to the Fighting Game Community, that's Sony town! Also look at all the deals Sony did with WB, exclusive marketing rights for Hogwarts and have shown off Suicide Squad in it's own State of Play, no way they didn't also make a deal for marketing MK.

A gameplay reveal trailer is also leaps and bounds more impressive than a cinematic only trailer. So everyone wins, WB gets the first announcement then Sony gets the reveal everyone is most eager to see, the gameplay. Only seeing a cinematic trailer at the Sony show wouldn't be as impressive.

Expect Gameplay reveal next week, the 24th!

Definitely

Looks cool as a proof of concept but I wanna see what the real time game looks like.

More pre-order bullsh!t.... I'll just wait for the Komplete version or whatever it will be.

neutralgamer1992128d ago

I always do that with MK series because of the amount of post launch support. It’s a better deal to wait (especially since I am only interested in single player content) and get all the characters and skins

abstractel127d ago

Not saying you don't know this but with fighting games it makes sense they support the game and release new characters. All fighting games do this. So if you want to wait a full year for the Komplete Edition then sure, that's up to you. It really comes down to how much you're interested in the game. It's a day one purchase for me, I love the Mortal Kombat franchise.

Furesis127d ago

If you don't play online then this is fine but otherwise i'd advice against it only because fighting games are the most fun online when they release. Everyone is at the same-ish level and u have tons of people plying which means you'll get equally skilled opponents more often.
I don't like the pre order BS either btw but for me the pros outweigh the cons here.

BigBosss128d ago

Gameplay either at Summer Game Fest or PS Showcase. Either way, I am really excited for this! Played all MK games :)

FPSRUSSIA128d ago

With a September release date looks like Gameplay will be shown on Very soon maybe on Playstation event or on summer game fest.
