I'd rather look at how beautiful it is and support the people who didn't years making it at the same time.

You can emulate it for better graphics and performance but still buy the game to support the devs. Emulation isn't piracy.

MadLad758d ago

Exactly. I used to buy a copy of the games then just give it to my nephew. Now he's of the age he has one of my old PCs and he just wants to emulate them too lol.

That's the console only mentality though. PC guys just steal everything. They're not just a little jealous of seeing an open platform at work.

Smellsforfree758d ago

Agreed. Emulation is NOT piracy and emulation is preserving gaming history.

I recently reset my Switch and was flabbergasted at how many of my old cartridges would not play without some download from the eshop. It is like they all need authentication from Nintendo's servers in the form of a small update to play on a Switch with recent firmware. If Nintendo decides to shut down these servers, there is a good possibility that a lot of my purchased content, including physical games, will be no longer playable. However, all of the games I've backed up to my PC will be playable forever. And I've been thinking about that a lot lately.

gleepot758d ago

Correct, emulation isn't piracy, but when you buy a game you buy a single license to play the version of the game you bought. Just because you bought the game on one console, does not give you free legal reign to play it on anything else. Downloading and playing a rom is still illegal.

badz149758d ago

emulation is fully legal as long as you are not using any propriety copyrighted codes not owned by you. if the emulator is coded with ZERO codes from the original hw, it's legal. and dumping your games to .iso image or whatever has always been legal given that you bought the game and dumped the copy you bought. I think there was a law stating that.

HOWEVER to some extent, even if you download the iso but still buy the copy of the game, I personally still consider it as legal.

so, with all the above considered, there should be ZERO credibility for any console maker to go after legal emulation like what Nintendo is doing. why has it been allowed though? is Nintendo somehow above the law?

As long as people buy the game before playing on PC! I expected a new Switch this holiday, but according to Nintendo that's not going to happen. Sheesh Nintendo, release Switch 2 already. The OLED is nice, but a 1080p portable with at least the power of Series S is overdue.

In the past I used to say at least as powerful as XB1X.

Viljong758d ago

Thats imposible. 799e rog ally is 8.6tflop zen4 rda3 on paper but is not nearly series s level. Show how much better console api is. Switch is tiny 0.4tflop.

C4rnos758d ago

If you want to talk about teraflops, the Series S is only 4, the reality is newer; faster, smaller chiplet designs that are coming out now will be leaps and bounds ahead of what was possible even a few years ago.

The Steamdeck is the perfect example of the level people expect though, the Deck can play most games at 800p and while having higher framerates all the same, you'd likely be looking at 4-500 for something like that.

Smellsforfree758d ago

I think 720p is fine for a portable. I wouldn't expect Nintendo to target Series S performance. I expect it will perform better than Switch, but I fully expect Nintendo to take the same considered approach they took with Switch with whatever new portable they come out with. The original Switch has a severely underclocked GPU in the name of battery life, for example.

FungLip758d ago

Is it fully playable or just good to look at?

MadLad758d ago

Switch emulation has been easy for a long while now. If you have a decent enough PC it's really where you should be playing your Switch games unless you care about the mobility ... that's when you grab your Steam Deck lol.

Vits758d ago

The game is fully playable on PC, you can choose the input method, upscale, etc. But the 60fps patch and this RT patch are still hit or miss. The first is being optimized whereas the second is just a patch modification originally for BOTW so it can create some artifacts.

badz149758d ago

Switch emulation has been a breeze. the Steam Deck is running Switch games effortlessly

Other ppl have to make Nintendos games look more current for them.

The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom (Switch 2) -A Sublime Sequel, Now Sublimer| NintendoLife

"When all's said and done, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is a fantastic revamp of perhaps Nintendo's most sublime sequel. What was once a technical marvel on aged hardware now has a chance to truly shine, with visual and performance boosts undoubtedly making it the definitive way to play.

Nothing will ever match the feeling of playing it for the first time, of course, and some bonus content would have been welcome, but armed with Zelda Notes and the promise of buttery smooth upgrades, I'd challenge anyone to dip back in without losing hours to its unrivalled wonder." - Jim Norman | NintendoLife

I argue that simple res/FPS bumps should be free, and then you can charge $10 if it includes actual extra content. That seems to be what has been settled on.

Many PS4 games got free upgrades for PS5 when just increasing res/FPS. Days Gone, for example, got a free FPS bump to start the generation. Now it's getting a "remaster", improved visuals/extra modes/content for $10.

I know they have *some* free upgrades - though we don't know what they entail - but the Zelda games just seem like they know they can get money from eager new buyers, so why not. Zelda Notes doesn't quite seem to justify $10, but hey, let us choose. Make it a $10 app, and give the res/FPS upgrades for free.

Weird the Jamboree pack being 20 with no new boards or minigames for party mode, way to miss the mark. Minigame variety is seriously lacking for the party mode compared to superstars, my biggest issue with the game, think I'll pass on that.

I wonder if there will be supply issues (unable to find the system). Interesting that they are launching in the middle of the year as well.

gold_drake46d ago

some of these are abit pricey.
like why?

neutralgamer199245d ago

It's Nintendo they know they can get away with it. Bits that simple

Why the differences in prices?
