Speedrunners complete TOTK in less than two hours

Tears of the Kingdom may have only been available for a few hours, but Zelda speedrunners are already finishing Link's latest adventure in just 1 hour and 34 minutes. That is less time it takes to make Salt Grilled Mushrooms!

If it can be speed run complete in 94 minutes, then is “this time we have a story, dungeons, side quests, bosses, etc etc etc…” just more bullcrap?

CrimsonWing69763d ago

C’mon man, I’m assuming you’re familiar with speed-runs and the typical average playthrough time for games, right?

Let’s put it this way, Elden Ring can be speed-ran in less than an hour and Skyrim can be done in… if I’m seeing this, correctly, in less than 6 minutes.

Speed-running is in no way the proper measurement of a game’s average length to beat or indicative of the amount of content a game offers.

I know you have to know this, I think…

NecrumOddBoy763d ago

Im familiar. The OG speed runs of BOTW were based on using the physics to get to the castle fast and skill.

The Elden Ring 6min was legit exploitation. Any%, rules don’t apply so that’s not what I mean.

I was assuming that it wasn’t a “go to the boss from the start” formula.

goldwyncq763d ago

Someone managed to speed run Elden Ring within ten minutes so it probably has very little content huh?

SullysCigar763d ago

There's speed running and then there's 'glitching'.

It really depends on the parameters set out as to what should be compared with what. I'm interested to know how quickly a game can be completed without exploits. Everything else is pointless and uninteresting, to me.

King_Noctis763d ago

So you are saying the game doesn’t have a single side quest, bosses, dungeon, or any story at all? You just walk to the ending and bam! The game is ended?

GoodGuy09763d ago (Edited 763d ago )

I believe like in botw, you can just head to the main boss right away and I'm guessing you can with totk as well. Every speedrun skips a lot of stuff and many include glitches that can skip a crap load.

The game is actually very content filled from what I've seen containing 3 huge areas with tons to explore and quests.

It takes speedrunners many attempts and hours to hit these times if ya don't know.

Congratulations on ruining the game and experience for yourselves.

CrimsonWing69763d ago

How does it ruin their experience?

jznrpg763d ago

Manipulating games to beat them quickly is not fun to me.
Good for them though they get the cookie 🥇

jznrpg763d ago

If you think it’s fun that’s fine. For me it ruins the entire point of why I play games but that’s just me.

CrimsonWing69763d ago (Edited 763d ago )

Not everyone has to play games and enjoy them like you.

Some people like the challenge of completing a game quickly and then trying to find ways to beat it faster.

They potentially even play the game more than you do while they practice. So, who cares how anyone enjoys a game? There’s no right or wrong way to have fun playing a game.

damn
having watched quite a few speedruns myself, its always fascinating how they do it

The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom (Switch 2) -A Sublime Sequel, Now Sublimer| NintendoLife

"When all's said and done, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is a fantastic revamp of perhaps Nintendo's most sublime sequel. What was once a technical marvel on aged hardware now has a chance to truly shine, with visual and performance boosts undoubtedly making it the definitive way to play.

Nothing will ever match the feeling of playing it for the first time, of course, and some bonus content would have been welcome, but armed with Zelda Notes and the promise of buttery smooth upgrades, I'd challenge anyone to dip back in without losing hours to its unrivalled wonder." - Jim Norman | NintendoLife

I argue that simple res/FPS bumps should be free, and then you can charge $10 if it includes actual extra content. That seems to be what has been settled on.

Many PS4 games got free upgrades for PS5 when just increasing res/FPS. Days Gone, for example, got a free FPS bump to start the generation. Now it's getting a "remaster", improved visuals/extra modes/content for $10.

I know they have *some* free upgrades - though we don't know what they entail - but the Zelda games just seem like they know they can get money from eager new buyers, so why not. Zelda Notes doesn't quite seem to justify $10, but hey, let us choose. Make it a $10 app, and give the res/FPS upgrades for free.

Weird the Jamboree pack being 20 with no new boards or minigames for party mode, way to miss the mark. Minigame variety is seriously lacking for the party mode compared to superstars, my biggest issue with the game, think I'll pass on that.

I wonder if there will be supply issues (unable to find the system). Interesting that they are launching in the middle of the year as well.

gold_drake46d ago

some of these are abit pricey.
like why?

neutralgamer199246d ago

It's Nintendo they know they can get away with it. Bits that simple

Dhika46d ago

Why the differences in prices?
