Nintendo President Discusses Next-Generation, Pricing of Switch & Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Pretty good Q&A info, but would have been nice to get more. Anyone could have guessed these answers, if you think about it.

Basically no plans at all to announce new hardware it seems. No plans at all for a discount for the handheld despite manufacturing costs going down. Charging an extra $10 in the USA for Zelda TOTK is not a sign of new pricing. More expensive game pricing will be decided on a case by case basis. Hoping Mario movie can bring in new fans for Nintendo.

It's a good thing Microsoft now says its "adorably all digital" future plans are outdated

They suggested a potentially different path to Sony, and poorer game preservation as a result.

Honestly, I don't mind a digital-only device - I do play mostly on PC after all. I just think that one paired with Microsoft's way of handling expandable storage is a bad idea.

Like, just imagine how expensive that would get with 1TB costing around 150 USD and the current sizes for AAA titles.

Can't freaking wait! I only have one tiny nitpick from everything I've seen so far. The ground clutter. There is a ton of pop-in going on when moving around with small rocks and foliage. I hope they can touch that up a bit before release. The game itself looks like everything I could have hoped for! I hope there are a ton of different cards to collect, for Queen's Blood.

nommers9h ago

So glad they're bringing a card game to a FF game again

andy859h ago

Given it's an SSD game now I really hope that's cleaned up closer to release.

I think they've said the demo we're seeing is several months old. Hopefully it already is fixed but most open world games seem to have a problem with vegetation pop in or density

Man, this is one of those games where when I saw the gameplay, I could tell immediately they’re raising the bar. I can’t tell you how hyped I am for this! It’s not crazy far out, but the wait is still getting to me.

There’s also Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and Persona 3 Remake to juggle before then. Dang, 2024 is a good time to be a JRPG fan.

andy856h ago

And LAD Gaiden and I still haven't finished Sea of Stars 🤣

gold_drake5h ago

oooo boy i cant wait, im already dodging news and gameplay like a pro haha

Trilithon5h ago

this should be a good 75 hours of entertainment

Syphos4h ago

I think that's a bit below the actual number, they said 100 hours (which is probably discounting how much side-stuff and mini-games you can get lost in) I'd expect with a normal-ish playthrough enjoying some of the side-content you'll easily top 100 hours, might be more like 140-150 hours tbh ^^.

I wonder how many hours completing everything fully will take, can't wait.

gleepot5h ago

looking forward to tomorrow where its 149 days away from launch

That's really good actually, better than my phone and my 10' tablet just watching YouTube or Twitch.

gold_drake13h ago

oh wow, i expected it to be way less.

nice, cant wait :)

SwissCheese12h ago

Given this is just a streaming device, that's pretty low compared to my cell. But I guess most gaming sessions are shorter than that.

Profchaos10h ago(Edited 10h ago)

Try streaming games to your mobile phone for that long and see how it goes I think you'll find with a decent screen brightness most phones would only get 3 to 6 hours max.
My fold 3 would only go about 3 hours tbh

EvertonFC6h ago

Most.phones wouldn't even do 3 hours imo, I used 12% in about 20mins using remote play while letting my nephew and niece play "Peppa pig and paw patrol.
I imagine it's even less playing a more gfx intensive game.

EvertonFC6h ago

A mobile last about 2 hours when playing a console game, plus it feels like it's gonna melt in you're hand.

Vits12h ago

Pretty similar to the Abxylute, but far lower than the Logitech G-Cloud battery life.

But given Sony's recent track record, it's really good and depending on how the battery is accommodated inside of it we might have another Wii U Gamepad situation where a newer, larger battery can be used.
