Redfall Review - Not Even on Game Pass | MMORPG

Redfall is a bad video game. It's one that feels both underbaked and unfinished, releasing in a visually poor state, loaded with bugs, lackluster gameplay and a boring, empty world.

I cannot recommend anyone spend time with Redfall, especially with Microsoft charging $70 for the title on Xbox or PC, and even on Game Pass I'd recommend simply playing Arkane's other titles instead.

These are getting good. The all time peak for this game is 1.5k. This is brutal stuff.

Aloymetal765d ago (Edited 765d ago )

They went from a few 5's to a bunch of 4's and now to even 3's. Amazing achievement from a trillion$ company.

S2Killinit765d ago

Unfortunately they even mislead people into thinking this was going to be a big hit. People were excited about it and they did everything to make sure that no one caught onto the mediocrity prior to release. Its a bait and switch strategy to keep them signed up to gamepass for as long as many months as possible.

SullysCigar765d ago

^ Yeah agreed, they did mislead people. Especially through letting people believe things that suited them, like everyone expecting it in Unreal Engine 5 for years, everyone expecting 60fps, because that's what they advertised. How many sales did they get on false promises? Where is the recall/refund commitment?

What's crazy, to me, is that some of these more recent review scores might have been avoidable if they'd only addressed at least SOME of the bugs and glitches. It'll never be a good game, but they could have got it up towards 'mediocre' instead of just downing tools, throwing their hands up and taking the "well, we're screwed" attitude, which is how it feels right now.

anast765d ago

Yeah, it's astonishing. I thought it would be bad, but this is next level jank.

lukasmain765d ago

"Not even on Gamepass". That's true. If I got a free invite to gamepass, there's no way in hell I would even bother downloading this game let alone play the thing. Can't even fathom what the people who paid $70 for this so called 'game' are thinking deep down.

I may be the vocal minority on this site when it comes to Redfall but the game is definitely not a 3. The game is not broken it's definitely playable. I'm about 3/4 through the game & yes it has some concept flaws but I'm playing through the game just fine with 5 more missions to go. I've experienced a couple of hiccups/glitches. For me the game is a 6.5 Gamepass game. I will say..it's not worth $70 as a retail stand-alone title.

TheEnigma313765d ago (Edited 765d ago )

Honestly there is no difference between 3-5 rating. Anything under a 7 as a consensus, isn't really worth wasting time on.

Traecy765d ago (Edited 765d ago )

Not true at all. I played some games that were rated between 6 to 7 & had a decent experience playing. Gaming reviews are opinions including subjective. I'm playing Redfall too & it's not a 3, it's a close 7.

LabRat765d ago (Edited 765d ago )

@Traecy - I guess it all comes down to personal preference and how much time someone has. I personally do not have a ton of time to play anymore, so why would I waste that that time on a 6 when I can play an 8 or 9 even.

Obviously who likes what is just personal taste, but it seems the overarching consensus for this game is that it truly is an insult to xbox fans that this is what MS thinks this is what is acceptable to release to its customers.

SullysCigar765d ago

^ @Traecy, the thing is, the aggregate score right here on N4G is 4.9/10 from 54 reviews. Now, we all know reviewers are just people with opinions, but the chances are they play more games than you or I, so they're probably closer to what most people's experience and opinion would be.

I'm sorry you've nothing better to spend your gaming time on, but if you think it's close to a 7 - and you're happy enough to spend your time that way - fair enough, nobody can be the judge but you.

Christopher765d ago

This is a truly sad look on games in general. This is why sites rate games so highly because people have too high of expectations. I've played way worse games than Redfall which were rated much higher.

A "6.5 Gamepass game" is what for a $70 game? 3, 4, 5?

Sgt_Slaughter765d ago

"The game is not broken"

Factually inaccurate, the AI is completely broken and the game crashes repeatedly. Like what you like, but ignoring problems isn't helping anyone. There's multiple videos where the AI ignores what's going on and doesn't attack the player, or simply jumping on a car or a higher up object breaks them. Not to mention the ghost town that it is, running for over half the map without seeing a single person.

The game was released in a broken state. A 3 is warranted.

badz149765d ago

@Elda

"The game is not broken it's definitely playable"

same case with CP2077, ME Andromeda, Anthem, FO76...playable, sure but broken nonetheless!

one thing I have to agree on is the very low scores are definitely coming out of frustration due to high expectations for the game because another similarity between these games is the devs who were (are) highly regarded and held at a very high status among gamers.

Elda764d ago

If I can play a game & go to mission to mission getting further within the game, then to me the game is not broken. I have experienced some glitches but there are good games with glitches like the new Jedi Fallen Survivor but I'm enjoying it as well as I'm enjoying Redfall. Again..Redfall is not the best game & it has its flaws including the concept being flawed but out of curiosity I started playing & to me it's not that bad as most are making it out to be. That's just my experience as well as my opinion. To each their own.

Concord, Suicide Squad, Fairgame$ And ‘Vibes-Based’ Failures

Paul Tassi: "Sony recently reiterated its commitment to live service games with one big hit last year (Helldivers 2), one big cancellation (The Last of Us Factions) and one big failure (Concord). It’s no great surprise it is continuing down this road, given the way the industry is trending and the limited shelf life of its famed single player games. But it immediately made me think of a game that Sony is allegedly releasing that I have to believe is pre-destined to fail, Fairgame$."

Alos88162d ago

Fairgame$ feels like it's destined to flop out the gate- that initial trailer felt full of that same instantly-dated 'fight The Man with a ragtag team of weirdos' energy that was prevalent in Sega's Hyenas (which they wisely cancelled.) Unlike Marathon I just don't see this standing a chance.

Nacho_Z162d ago

It will definitely flop, missed the boat by a couple of years. Agreed that Marathon has a decent chance of succeeding it looks genuinely good and interesting.

It can't be sustainable having all these expensive GaaS being DOA being balanced by the odd modest success like Helldivers. The aim is to find the new Fortnite or whatever but it's highly unlikely and seems to be a massive waste of money.

Concord and the Other Biggest Flops of This Generation

Some of the biggest success stories in the history of gaming have happened during this generation of gaming. At the same time, some of the biggest flops in the history of gaming have also happened during this generation of gaming. To this end, a few games particularly stick out as, unfortunately, disastrous flops for those who made the games, sold the games, and ultimately, for many that played the games.

What a strange, short list. There have been many more games that arrived DOA, were never released, didn’t make their budget back, etc. Why cherry pick these games? Is this list based on the size of internet hate boners?

EternalTitan279d ago

These flops have a similarity that you may not be allowed to point out.

Skull and Bones gets my vote, at this point just completely remake AC Black Flag. If the Concord developers had made the game free to play, and toned down the in your face messaging via the mods and design choices, this game could have been serviceable eventually. I never understand why pandering to 5% of your audience and giving the finger to the other 95% seems like a good idea to these people. They never seem to learn. Disney has lost 1/3rd of its value and they keep doubling down on political messaging. I don’t get it.

BlackTar187279d ago

Some of these companies are paid huge amounts of money to do this stuff. They get truck loads of money to give “the message”
By blackrock and vanguards and multiple other venture capitalists even though it’s been proven over and over they fail.

I'm not interested in this game but i think it's great they added the offline mode for those who are.

darthv72378d ago

It was okay at first... once they added the performance update it was definitely better.

TwoPicklesGood378d ago

Bury this turd. It’s only good as a reminder of what devs shouldn’t do.

I hate the concept of an announced final update.
