All current games were made to be sold and ended up on gamepass later. They started working on this since the Prey DLC which came out in 2018 (probably even before that since DLC usually doesnt involve the full team).

The Bethesda acquisition wasnt even completed until 2021.

The idea that this game (or any game with such a lenghty dev time) was “designed for gamepass” is just idiotic.

If anything, its smaller games with a quicker dev cycle like Pentiment or Hi-Fi Rush that you could MAYBE apply that kind of thought to, and even then I still fail to see what a game made just for gamepass is supposed to mean in terms of quality or gameplay

RedFall is the worst 1st party release in the last decade by ANY of the platform holders. GP is garbage if that's the quality we can look forward to. I guess it's up another AA indie title to prop up the service since MS sold us on fake bill of goods. What else do you need besides the last 16 months of crickets then Redfall? MS might as well shadowdrop a remastered N64 Superman at this point.

yikes!, I been saying for years how gamepass games are mediocre, average or old, and lots people calling some of comments trolling and other stuff, and well look at it now , I have seen more and more how some game websites are acknowledging the fact that this is the quality you should expect for a gamepass game, ever wonder why when you go to Netflix you keep scrolling and scrolling down , up , left , right for literally alot of time and hope to find something you like?, you know why that happens?, well is because.... People that continue to pay for it. I still accidently pay for it, I canceled it cause I played what I wanted to from it. Seen the couple kid games on there paw patrol peppa pig(ughhh) and Disney something. I bought it again a few months after initially canceling now I just forget to cancel. I've still got hopes for starfield so I'll grab a series x currently only have xbox one but nothing screams system seller that's for sure right now

I have Extra, and on top of that I actually buy games Day 1. Next up is Batsugun in a couple of weeks, then a Toaplan collection with Zero Wing and Hellfire in June. Still playing a lot of GT7, which I got Day 1 well over a year ago.

I’ve said it before, you are still paying the same if not more for the same amount of gaming if you subscribe to services. The question is, what will you be playing. Therefore, unless you have the time to play a good deal of hours per day playing video games, you are actually financially worst off with gamepass.

Exactly, the only reason movie subscription services work is because watching tv show episodes and movies only take up a few hours of your time before you can move on and consume new content.
Turn on a 90min movie or 1hr long tv episode and be done with it, move to the next... VS beginning a 20-30hr video game. So unless people are only playing the first hour or two of a game before moving on, nobody is playing more games than people paying full price.

The "best deal in gaming" folks have been quiet, MS themselves haven't updated the Gamepass numbers in ages. The whole selling point of Gamepass over PS+ is that MS first party drops day 1 on it. MS first party is consistently poor outside a racer franchise and a flight sim.

This is not a defense of the awful RF, but out of the games that I just named and the 100s more on the service, this is a perfect example? A game that was also being dev for PS5 and then scrapped? Let's be real, during any year, we have 100s of titles released, and the larger portion of releases are mediocre to poor, then we have a handful of good ones on every platform collectively.

It’s a poor release and so was Halo but all of the usual suspects commenting about how the service has nothing are deluded.

GamePass has hundreds of titles, first and some third party releases day one.

It’s an excellent service and will truly shine IF/WHEN Xbox starts pumping out more (hopefully better) first party titles.

The software you do have a point to an extent. It's kinda all in what you like. Someone like me though. I'm not really into racing games, first person shooters , although I can be swayed by certain ones. I play fallout in first person oddly enough, and although I haven't tried it I'm not into rhythm games and that's what I've seen hi fi rush described as(could just be ignorance on my part ingather it's a cross of beat em up and rhythm)

I say this as a subscriber to both ps plus and gamepass. I'm practically wasting my money. As someone who likes to have the physical versions gamepass and ps plus almost do nothing for me lol. There's been a few though like final fantasy 12 I've got the steel book ps4 version I never opened now it happens to be worth some decent change, so I downloaded and beat it after all these years. It saved me from opening my physical copy. For the most part though I find myself playing games I already have or ones that aren't on a subscription.

Oh, I get it; there is no one size fits all with gaming. GP is not worth it to some people, and I respect that opinion. However, the case here is claiming that Redfall defines the entire service, not the type or genre of games that people prefer, and even then, there is a large variety but a person is still entitled not to want the service or like the catalog.

Except Halo infinite launched in a sorry state considering it's a flagship MS IP. the other games well forza 5 isn't out yet is it? Hi-fi rush was apparently good but is a small indie game at best. The 3rd party titles that release on gamespass tend to be mediocre titles and I mean that in the proper sense of the word- redfall isn't mediocre it's way below that. Microsoft hardly seem to get any games out themselves as first party releases and when they have so far only forza horizon titles have been in a good shape the past few years. Everything else from them has essentially launched in early access.

Redfall is terrible quality and some pay 70 or 100 for it. GP is not excuse for a bad and unfinished game. Ppl pay for the subscription. Do you excuse terrible games on PS+? Not really, so why does MS get a "pass" ? Each game should be judged solely on merit.

I don’t understand the hate for Xbox gamepass? Sure Redfall is a bad game and should not have released this way. But the amount of games I have played thanks to gamepass that I would never spend money on. Yakuza games, Gears tactic, SOMA, Amnesia collection, Immortals fenyx rising, Psychonats 2, Assasins creed origins and odyssey, Hi-fi rush, Chained echoes, Eastward, A plague tale 1 and 2, Scorn, Inside, Backbone, Twelve minutes, Guardians of the galaxy, Trek to Yomi. I’ve got 10 more games I would not consider spend my money on, both big and small indie games. Btw I play on XboxSX and PS5.

Yeah, for me Eastward was a good example. I don't think I would have ever bought that game, but I played it on GP and it was great. And I'd say GP saved me money on 12 Minutes, because I found out quickly that it was NOT for me. I could have easily bought that game and regretted it if not for GP.

Congratulations, you're devaluing the golden service offering that Microsoft is building its entire platform on. If this is the acceptable standard of IP on Games Pass then why is this service a core offering and not a supplementary offering like PlayStation Extra?

If the gaming industry is prepared to accept this standard for a monthly service offering in the name of "value" then don't celebrate Microsoft acquiring publishers and studios because we're not going to get high quality games or amazing new IP or franchises, we're going to get "good for Games Pass". Rather just let Microsoft broker deals with third party content creators to bring their games to Games Pass after the fact.
