Why Redfall Isn't as Bad as You Think

Redfall has launched with a fairly negative reaction, however when you get down to it, it's not a bad game when played with friends.

Vengeance1138776d ago

Oh boy here we go with the copium articles. Yes, Redfall is very much a bad game, take the L and move on.

-Foxtrot776d ago (Edited 776d ago )

I know right

It'll get a free update and we'll have the "underdog" and "X is now a better game" articles.

LordoftheCritics775d ago (Edited 775d ago )

The ''it's fun when played with friends'' articles have arrived.

We all know this is not damage control.

badz149775d ago (Edited 775d ago )

@LordoftheCritics

"it's fun when played with friends" - not according to Angry Joe

dumahim775d ago

Angry Joe video for reference.

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

I had to laugh at that boss that seemed to just stand there and got taken out so quick that someone completely missed the fight.

Bathyj775d ago

It's kind of sad to see all these Xbox YouTube guys so disenfranchised with the Xbox right now.. Doc Dark was on brap and brap was saying we should demand better. Doc Dark said when are you going to realise that this is what they are now and don't expect more. Just except it. I'm paraphrasing.

Zeref775d ago (Edited 775d ago )

Lol pathetic bandwagoning is what it is.

We literally just got HiFi Rush which is a GOTY contender and Pentiment which is an amazing experience. Gamepass games have been nothing but AAA games and a mix of high level indie games. High on Life was a great game too that's also still exclusive to Xbox. Last case of Benedict Fox just came out and it's amazing.

One bad game and suddenly Xbox is doomed? Gtfoh. Is Sony going to sell Playstation because of Forespoken?

It's all BS and fake concern.

Some games are not gonna be good it's the nature of art get over it.

We still got plenty to look forward to this year on GamePass and AAA exclusives like Starfield, Forza Motorsport and Stalker 2

rlow1775d ago

Is that because you played it? Or are you just riding the bandwagon?

RaiderNation775d ago (Edited 775d ago )

Exactly! You knew it was coming. Any time a game is almost universally hated, here comes "Johnny Insight" with the contrarian viewpoint. The game is bad. Move on.

I have only just started but right off the bat it didnt look anything like a current gen title. It didnt even look last gen. I am somewhat torn as to what this was really meant to be. Was this something they wanted to make or something they were tasked with making? And the news about this being in development for PS5... I just can't see this being something Sony would have signed off on if it were pitched to them. So I guess it's a good thing it wasn't on the 5.

Maybe I will like it more as i play, or play with others but as it is... I just can't quite come to terms with how this is the way it is right now. I might just hold off progressing until the performance patch is ready.

Bathyj775d ago

Sony would pull this off the store like they did with Cyberpunk. But had it been a Sony exclusive it wouldn't have got to that stage. It would have been recognised a year ago and sent back to the drawing board.

Also if you want a comparison check out King Thrash, Redfall vs Perfect Dark Zero from 360. Eye opening.

jambola775d ago

No
There's 40 games on the ps store that are copies about objects jumping
I doubt they would remove it

darkrider775d ago

I saw it. How it's possible. Even the explosions...

Bathyj775d ago

Jambola, they're crappy shovelware games. And yes, I wish they weren't clogging up the store

The difference is they aren't marketed as AAA games any duping people into thinking they're quality. And they don't cost $70.

If you want to buy pickle jump for 3.99 that's on you. If you bought Redfall thinking it was an AAA shooter then you've been deceived to an extent.

darthv72775d ago

Thanks bathy... just watched it. The whole "everything is made of concrete" was just so damn funny.

Yeah, you make a good point there @darthv72 - as much as it seems unlikely, imagine a scenario where Microsoft saw Redfall and said "there's no way this will float with Sony's standards, not after what happened to Cyberpunk 2077. Pull it from PS5 and just... do what you can with this - we NEED games!"

I saw the comparison video with Perfect Dark - a game almost 20 years old, from TWO GENS ago, on X360. It really brings home what a poor state Redfall is in. SO much unfinished. SO much 'con-creet'. To be honest, it kinda made me want to go and play Perfect Dark again lol

SullysCigar776d ago

Lol that thumbnail though. Best boss-eyed character fail since Quantum Break!

https://media-cldnry.s-nbcn...

Regarding the article, it's a bad game. They aren't all winners. I'm not sure if you're making excuses for the developers or you're just playing the contrary view for clicks, but either way, I strongly disagree.

rlow1775d ago

Well good for you. How dare someone like a game or find a silver lining in a game that came out unfinished.

Opinions are just that and if someone found a way to enjoy a game. Who are you to tell them they’re wrong for doing so?

RNTody775d ago (Edited 775d ago )

@rlow1 Actually more like someone shouldn't tell us that an unfinished, buggy, content thin game with weak gameplay isn't as bad as reception suggests. Liking or enjoying a game has nothing to do with its critical reception or its quality standard. Especially if it's from a studio that has been known for quality games.

Don't hide behind "opinions". We all know opinions are free, you can like or dislike whatever you want. I like Batman v Superman despite its poor critical reception, and I've similarly liked games that didn't get great reviews, like Star Wars The Force Unleashed or Matrix Path of Neo. But we're in the quality argument in respect of Redfalls reception. Not the same ballpark as "liking it" or "having fun" with it.

SullysCigar775d ago

Where did I say someone else couldn't have an opinion, or like the game, or that they're wrong to enjoy it, @rlow1? Quit punching air and read properly before responding.

"Opinions are just that" - right back at you, my friend! I'm not asking you to agree with me - I couldn't care less either way - but I do disagree with the take in this article. Bad games shouldn't be excused.

Crows90775d ago

Nobody says theyre wrong for enjoying a bad game. They would be wrong to state that it isnt a bad game. Who are we? Gamers with a brain and the ability to think and be critical of ourselves and others.

dumahim775d ago

Just the headline isn't an opinion, it's telling you that you're wrong for thinking it's as bad as you think it is.

Chevalier775d ago

It's Xbox first $70 AAA game, why exactly should anyone be okay with such an incomplete game? Have you seen the insane bugs on this 'finished' product? After a delay no less? Everyone should rightfully be up in arms and asking Xbox/MS where their quality control is at.

Rude-ro775d ago

There are 100% people who see the silver lining. They are called Xbox players.
See, this what they get.
Sea of thieves, crackdown 3, halo infinite etc…
Rushed unfinished products that Microsoft is forcing out because THEY HAVE NOTHING BUT THIS GAMES.
They are trying to appear to be a gaming company.
They throw a high price tag on cheap games to make gamepass look appealing because a group of people think for the subscription price, they are saving money.

rlow1775d ago

@Tody_ZA
No one told you anything, they did however share their opinion. If they found fun in the game then they did.
As for this article’s purpose, it was never about performance. Though they did acknowledge all the issues. Even went as far as saying how they encountered issues connecting to one another. But that wasn’t the point of the article, it was about still having fun in a game that has issues but isn’t broken to the extent you can’t enjoy yourselves.

If the article had been about performance, which it wasn’t, then your point would make sens.

It's a bad game with or without friends. It was so funny the first preview of anger Joe with is friends. Just go watch. He is mad with the trash that this game is. It crashed 11 or 12 times. Going through doors, floor. Funny

Futureshark775d ago

Xbox apologists starting again, shame they can't call a spade a spade and demand better, rather then
"Good enough for Gamepass"

rlow1775d ago

Says who? please link to some xbox apologists. As far as I’ve seen online, no one is defending it. On YouTube the Xbox faithful are calling them out on releasing an unfinished game.

darkrider775d ago

Coltweatwood for starters

rippermcrip775d ago

Uh what do you think this article is bud?

IamTylerDurden1775d ago

They had a grand time tearing apart Forspoken which is 3rd party and rated higher.

Concord, Suicide Squad, Fairgame$ And ‘Vibes-Based’ Failures

Paul Tassi: "Sony recently reiterated its commitment to live service games with one big hit last year (Helldivers 2), one big cancellation (The Last of Us Factions) and one big failure (Concord). It’s no great surprise it is continuing down this road, given the way the industry is trending and the limited shelf life of its famed single player games. But it immediately made me think of a game that Sony is allegedly releasing that I have to believe is pre-destined to fail, Fairgame$."

Alos88166d ago

Fairgame$ feels like it's destined to flop out the gate- that initial trailer felt full of that same instantly-dated 'fight The Man with a ragtag team of weirdos' energy that was prevalent in Sega's Hyenas (which they wisely cancelled.) Unlike Marathon I just don't see this standing a chance.

Nacho_Z166d ago

It will definitely flop, missed the boat by a couple of years. Agreed that Marathon has a decent chance of succeeding it looks genuinely good and interesting.

It can't be sustainable having all these expensive GaaS being DOA being balanced by the odd modest success like Helldivers. The aim is to find the new Fortnite or whatever but it's highly unlikely and seems to be a massive waste of money.

Concord and the Other Biggest Flops of This Generation

Some of the biggest success stories in the history of gaming have happened during this generation of gaming. At the same time, some of the biggest flops in the history of gaming have also happened during this generation of gaming. To this end, a few games particularly stick out as, unfortunately, disastrous flops for those who made the games, sold the games, and ultimately, for many that played the games.

What a strange, short list. There have been many more games that arrived DOA, were never released, didn’t make their budget back, etc. Why cherry pick these games? Is this list based on the size of internet hate boners?

EternalTitan283d ago

These flops have a similarity that you may not be allowed to point out.

Skull and Bones gets my vote, at this point just completely remake AC Black Flag. If the Concord developers had made the game free to play, and toned down the in your face messaging via the mods and design choices, this game could have been serviceable eventually. I never understand why pandering to 5% of your audience and giving the finger to the other 95% seems like a good idea to these people. They never seem to learn. Disney has lost 1/3rd of its value and they keep doubling down on political messaging. I don’t get it.

BlackTar187283d ago

Some of these companies are paid huge amounts of money to do this stuff. They get truck loads of money to give “the message”
By blackrock and vanguards and multiple other venture capitalists even though it’s been proven over and over they fail.

I'm not interested in this game but i think it's great they added the offline mode for those who are.

darthv72382d ago

It was okay at first... once they added the performance update it was definitely better.

TwoPicklesGood382d ago

Bury this turd. It’s only good as a reminder of what devs shouldn’t do.

mkis007382d ago

I hate the concept of an announced final update.
