Redfall Review – All Fang and No Bite | MP1st

(MP1st) Redfall Review – Redfall doesn’t have enough bite, its dumb AI and bland missions making for a disappointing vampire romp.

Certainly bang on the aggregate average.

To me, this was an average game from over a decade ago, in pretty much every respect. Now, it's below average and is just a bit of filler for GamePass. Sad times to see a developer reduced to this and reminiscent of what happened with Rare launching a barren game after they were purchased.

Services. That's the problem

Its crazy that MS promises so much and then delivers like this. At SOME POINT their fans have to realize that they are being led on. Im not saying it doesnt have any value or its unplayable, but xbox takes a reputation hit every time the fanbase is led on like this (at least for those fans who are more aware of how others are being treated)

Imagine classic 80's flick The Lost Boys: The Game.

Stranger Things vibes, vampires, laughs, blood, cheese and awesomeness. Redfall could have been something, if only they'd not squandered the opportunity so badly.

Exactly! I would LOVE to have that kind of game. Co-op? Vampire hunting like in Supernatural? Daaamn. that would be insane if done right.

Concord, Suicide Squad, Fairgame$ And ‘Vibes-Based’ Failures

Paul Tassi: "Sony recently reiterated its commitment to live service games with one big hit last year (Helldivers 2), one big cancellation (The Last of Us Factions) and one big failure (Concord). It’s no great surprise it is continuing down this road, given the way the industry is trending and the limited shelf life of its famed single player games. But it immediately made me think of a game that Sony is allegedly releasing that I have to believe is pre-destined to fail, Fairgame$."

Fairgame$ feels like it's destined to flop out the gate- that initial trailer felt full of that same instantly-dated 'fight The Man with a ragtag team of weirdos' energy that was prevalent in Sega's Hyenas (which they wisely cancelled.) Unlike Marathon I just don't see this standing a chance.

Nacho_Z163d ago

It will definitely flop, missed the boat by a couple of years. Agreed that Marathon has a decent chance of succeeding it looks genuinely good and interesting.

It can't be sustainable having all these expensive GaaS being DOA being balanced by the odd modest success like Helldivers. The aim is to find the new Fortnite or whatever but it's highly unlikely and seems to be a massive waste of money.

Concord and the Other Biggest Flops of This Generation

Some of the biggest success stories in the history of gaming have happened during this generation of gaming. At the same time, some of the biggest flops in the history of gaming have also happened during this generation of gaming. To this end, a few games particularly stick out as, unfortunately, disastrous flops for those who made the games, sold the games, and ultimately, for many that played the games.

What a strange, short list. There have been many more games that arrived DOA, were never released, didn’t make their budget back, etc. Why cherry pick these games? Is this list based on the size of internet hate boners?

EternalTitan280d ago

These flops have a similarity that you may not be allowed to point out.

Skull and Bones gets my vote, at this point just completely remake AC Black Flag. If the Concord developers had made the game free to play, and toned down the in your face messaging via the mods and design choices, this game could have been serviceable eventually. I never understand why pandering to 5% of your audience and giving the finger to the other 95% seems like a good idea to these people. They never seem to learn. Disney has lost 1/3rd of its value and they keep doubling down on political messaging. I don’t get it.

BlackTar187280d ago

Some of these companies are paid huge amounts of money to do this stuff. They get truck loads of money to give “the message”
By blackrock and vanguards and multiple other venture capitalists even though it’s been proven over and over they fail.

I'm not interested in this game but i think it's great they added the offline mode for those who are.

darthv72379d ago

It was okay at first... once they added the performance update it was definitely better.

TwoPicklesGood380d ago

Bury this turd. It’s only good as a reminder of what devs shouldn’t do.

mkis007379d ago

I hate the concept of an announced final update.
