"VGC is where the experts go to know what’s going on in the fast-moving world of video games. We are a new publication that delivers authoritative games industry news, insight and critique daily from a team of veteran journalists."

Perhaps you shouldn't shy away from the actual critique & judge this game accordingly >.> lol @veteran journalists

Christopher785d ago

People are allowed their opinions.

darkrider785d ago

So this open world game got the same score of burning skies.

Graphics, animation, AI, textures, story, effects, performance. Same level? Sorry but I can't understand how. They seem a gen apart in every single area.

I respect an opinion, but there also common sense.

-Foxtrot785d ago (Edited 785d ago )

True but the game is buggy, it is a mess, the AI is poor

It’s not a “well opinions” because they actually are actual real issues

Those things alone in ANY game does not get you up to an 8…sorry but if you are giving it an 8 or higher with those issues then you are lying to yourself

Christopher785d ago

@-Foxtrot: that's just how opinions work. Some people don't care as much about the things you do. *shrugs* I mean, I wouldn't rate this game lower for not having 60fps. Why? Not that big of a deal for me. That's just how opinions work.

784d ago
Bobertt784d ago

Yes and if you have a shit opinion you should be called out on it.

Umb784d ago

@ Christopher,
That really depends on what that opinion is, in this day and age only a certain way of thinking is allowed and if you speak the truth, you have a high chance of getting censored.

ChasterMies784d ago

Especially when they are paid by publishers.

Tacoboto784d ago

I've gotta agree with darkrider and Foxtrot on this one. The author of this review has only written two articles for this website - this Redfall review and a review for Sackboy on PS5 back at the end of 2021.

The author of the Jedi Survivor review gave it a perfect score and dismissed the performance issues: "Performance issues can't dull what is an incredible trip across the galaxy"

That same author gave a 4/5 to Horizon and knocked it for LA not being taken "fully advantage of" and few new "creatures". Weird way to refer to enemies as "creatures" and criticizing the locale for what, not being pristine after 1000 years and an apocalypse that restructured the planet?

The same reviewer isn't consistent from game to game and this publication couldn't even get a frequent writer to review Redfall. It's similar to how IGN gave Hogwarts to a freelancer because they were too afraid to touch a game with controversy around it.

People can certainly have their opinions, but a weighted opinion that receives a paycheck and impacts the aggregate review channels is very different than a free opinion given in a comment thread. They should be held to a higher standard.

-Foxtrot784d ago (Edited 784d ago )

@Tacoboto

Totally. Look at Dualshockers

They gave it an 8.5 and the author has had to write a second article trying to defend why he gave it such a high score, ignoring things.

https://www.dualshockers.co...

Actual quote...

"That’s why when I review a game, I tend not to talk about the performance unless it’s really game-cripplingly bad"

IGN when reviewing Pokemon Sword and Shield did the exact same thing, they had their Pokemon super fangirl do the review, she ignored EVERYTHING and when it came to the backlash she tried to defend herself and said "that the official review was not the time or place to address criticisms of the game".

It's the whole point of official reviews from paid journalists, you are supposed to talk about everything for the "unknown" public.

Hiding things comes across like a brown nose move towards publishers and studios where they are trying to help them sell copies by not putting people off the game with an honest review.

CrimsonWing69784d ago (Edited 784d ago )

Shouldn’t reviews be more than just “opinion”?

What are reviews meant to do, exactly? Like I’m not trying to be facetious.

I always thought they’re to help a consumer make an informed purchasing decision. I feel if most consumers followed this “opinion” and bought the game, I think a huge % of them would feel this “opinion” was complete bull sh*t.

I just feel like a review has to be a bit more than just an “opinion”, but then again I can’t tell what reviews are for anymore. If they are just opinion, I don’t get the point. I guess you’d just pick the score you’re hoping the game gets out of all the mixed reviews, buy the game, and realize you made a mistake?

You understand that people are allowed to like a game you don't like, right?

Just making sure.

Kaii785d ago

People are allowed to question one's Integrity though.

Abriael785d ago (Edited 785d ago )

If you think someone liking a game you don't is a stain on their "integrity" you need to be a little less self-centered. Or a lot.

rippermcrip785d ago

They can like it. But this review somehow failed to mention obvious problems. Like the game or not, you cannot ignore those things. You have to write about them. If you don't, then it most certainly is a stain on their integrity as a game reviewer.

ModsDoBetter784d ago

@ripper

What are your thoughts on Jedi Survivor getting 8s & 9s despite the fact the game couldn’t be completed due to bugs, the never ending performance issues, etc?

Does that get a pass because it’s not an Xbox exclusive or…? I just don’t see the same outrage on the articles that went up with JS review scores is all. 🤷‍♂️

blackblades784d ago

Where was that talk when forspoken came out

Eonjay784d ago

It's all the same. If someone has an opinion on another opinion, in much the same way you have an opinion against @Kai... what are you actually saying?

It is classic narcissism mixed with subtle condescension on your part to state who gets to express an opinion.

And that is my opinion.

Abriael784d ago

@rippermcrip: what is a big problem for you may be inconsequential for the enjoyment of others. There's no review that mentions *all* the issues a game has, and there's no rule on what issues are relevant or not.

Quite simply, this reviewer enjoyed the game. May want to simply learn to deal with it.

rippermcrip784d ago

He mentioned ZERO issues. I didn't say he had to list them all. As a reviewer it is your DUTY to mention some of this stuff. You aren't supposed to be some fanboy ignoring obvious and glaring flaws.

Abriael784d ago (Edited 784d ago )

@rippermcrip: I've read the rerview, and it mentions several issues. Apparently, not only you didn't play the game, but did not even read the review. Probably, you read the score and moved directly on to attacking the writer.

Flawlessmic784d ago

You understand as a professional reviewer you should mark things objectively, right?

Such as:
Graphics
Performance
Gameplay
Sound
Story

Redfall is terrible in all objectively areas as a video game, professional opinion should impact the score the least but obviously will impact it a bit.

Someone that hates rpgs for instance based or your comment they can give something like persona 5 a 4/10 cause that's there opinion or vice versa.

Reviewers should be objective, this stupid argument of its an opinion is a joke.

Notellin784d ago

It's an Xbox console exclusive on one of the most toxic Playstation fanboy sites the internet has to offer.

ModsDoBetter784d ago

Geez, tHoSe DoWnVoTe BoTs MuSt Be At It AgAiN

rippermcrip784d ago

No, the review does not mentions the glaring issues. It mentions a handful of things the reviewer didn't like (story isn't twisty/intriguing, dialog is hammy, have to change your loadout all the time). Since I'm so blind and can't read.... please list one major issue the game has that is mentioned in this article.

You're right I haven't played it. But you're absolutely wrong that one needs to play a game in order to know anything about it. I mean, you heard of like Youtube right? If not, let me tell you about it. People can post their gameplay on there. You can see all the shit wrong with the game.

It is no surprise I'm having to explain integrity to you. Everyone here knows you have known. A journalist who constantly argues with his readers. You shamelessly pushing the scam game Star Citizen on everyone every other day.

Kaii784d ago (Edited 784d ago )

we've moved the conversation from games launching unfinished to not being allowed to critique other people's reviews of said unfinished product, which is truly mindblowing.

Based on this review someone could purchase it with the intention of co-op yet campaign progress is TIED to the host.
Based on this review someone could assume the Ai is truly intelligent, "compelling adventure with killer combat" We've all seen the videos right? ( https://www.youtube.com/wat...

This isn't acceptable & Its exhausting dealing with people who are attempting to justify this game's current state.
I'm not forcing my ideals or my opinions, lol.

Can we blame MS for launching this
Can people also chill? ^.^

Abriael784d ago (Edited 784d ago )

Oh you're allowed.

People are also allowed to say you're full of it. 😂

You're not the ultimate authority on what is acceptable or not.

I'm ready to bet that you have not played the game, because if you did, you'd know that the videos are cherry-picked.

At least this reviewer bothered to play the game instead of just judging out of videos and memes. 🤷‍♂️

Kaii784d ago

@Abriael, Congrats on the zero chill.

gerbintosh784d ago

@Abriael

Did you help develop the game or are you Phil Spencer?

Lifexline784d ago

Lol maybe he actually likes it there are people who surprisingly actually like it I personally did not. It’s not buggy like some people claim from my epxperiwnce i didn’t experience any glitches but the AI and boring empty town was just dumb.

But I have seen some people actually enjoy it doesn’t mean they are illegitimate.

rippermcrip784d ago

But when the reviewer doesn't mention the terrible AI and boring emptiness... that's an issue.

ravens52784d ago

Just out of curiosity. Does anyone on this site really base their purchases off reviews?

Michiel1989784d ago

I certainly don't agree with this review, but I also don't think that we all should be a hivemind. Often enough I really like a game that got mediocre/bad reviews, should I now also give it a bad score just because the majority does? Technical/performance issues are a huge dealbreaker for me so I won't be praising this game, but you have to keep in mind that people measure with different measurements.

darthv72785d ago

I will try it for myself later tonight.

Shane Kim785d ago

Best thing to do. I often find myself not agreeing with reviewers.

ModsDoBetter784d ago

Hope you enjoy it!

For me, it doesn’t look too good with the endless bugs but hey, if you get enjoyment out of it, go for it and don’t let those toxic people gaslight you by mocking the “it’s fun with friends” outlook.

neutralgamer1992785d ago (Edited 785d ago )

62/100 overall says everything we need to know. We shouldn’t be defending this crap because MS must learn how to manage all this talent and GP isn’t an excuse to release unfinished games

Flawlessmic784d ago (Edited 784d ago )

I really hate reviewers like this and anyone that gives them the excuse that it's there opinion.

Like with anything there's are objective things judge and mark games off.

Graphics = early ps4/xone level marks down for that

Performance = I have no issues with 30fps as I play all my games in quality mode anyway, however this is dropping frames heavily all over the place while looking like a previous gen game, totally unacceptable.

Story= terrible like zero effort was made

Gameplay= performance is bad, mission's are stale, like one mission I had to take something to a grave with zero effect on anything and just teleporting back to the fire station lol, even tried co op and that did not help this it just made the game even easier than it already is, some of the worst Ai iv ever seen, buggy, glitchy, Explosions looks like it's from a ps2 ps3 game

Sound= not great

This game objectively is very bad, games should be judged for what it is, if the reviewer said look this is a 5 or 6 based of what's there but I still really enjoyed it that's fine but review it objectively that's there job, your personal feeling shouldn't make such a large difference.

I'm sorry there's no excuse, you are not serving your readers by giving misleading scores like this.

This reviewers credibility is shot as there is nothing that I can even say well that is good let alone even average.

Concord, Suicide Squad, Fairgame$ And ‘Vibes-Based’ Failures

Paul Tassi: "Sony recently reiterated its commitment to live service games with one big hit last year (Helldivers 2), one big cancellation (The Last of Us Factions) and one big failure (Concord). It’s no great surprise it is continuing down this road, given the way the industry is trending and the limited shelf life of its famed single player games. But it immediately made me think of a game that Sony is allegedly releasing that I have to believe is pre-destined to fail, Fairgame$."

Alos88174d ago

Fairgame$ feels like it's destined to flop out the gate- that initial trailer felt full of that same instantly-dated 'fight The Man with a ragtag team of weirdos' energy that was prevalent in Sega's Hyenas (which they wisely cancelled.) Unlike Marathon I just don't see this standing a chance.

Nacho_Z173d ago

It will definitely flop, missed the boat by a couple of years. Agreed that Marathon has a decent chance of succeeding it looks genuinely good and interesting.

It can't be sustainable having all these expensive GaaS being DOA being balanced by the odd modest success like Helldivers. The aim is to find the new Fortnite or whatever but it's highly unlikely and seems to be a massive waste of money.

Concord and the Other Biggest Flops of This Generation

Some of the biggest success stories in the history of gaming have happened during this generation of gaming. At the same time, some of the biggest flops in the history of gaming have also happened during this generation of gaming. To this end, a few games particularly stick out as, unfortunately, disastrous flops for those who made the games, sold the games, and ultimately, for many that played the games.

What a strange, short list. There have been many more games that arrived DOA, were never released, didn’t make their budget back, etc. Why cherry pick these games? Is this list based on the size of internet hate boners?

EternalTitan291d ago

These flops have a similarity that you may not be allowed to point out.

Skull and Bones gets my vote, at this point just completely remake AC Black Flag. If the Concord developers had made the game free to play, and toned down the in your face messaging via the mods and design choices, this game could have been serviceable eventually. I never understand why pandering to 5% of your audience and giving the finger to the other 95% seems like a good idea to these people. They never seem to learn. Disney has lost 1/3rd of its value and they keep doubling down on political messaging. I don’t get it.

BlackTar187291d ago

Some of these companies are paid huge amounts of money to do this stuff. They get truck loads of money to give “the message”
By blackrock and vanguards and multiple other venture capitalists even though it’s been proven over and over they fail.
