“Weeks” Of Patches Announced for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Ahead Of Release

The first patch is scheduled to be released on launch day.

This is the state of gaming today.

Games are much more complex today. How big was the file size and code of games pre-patch era. How many games could have been improved had a patch been available? I don't mean to say devs don't use it as a crutch in many ways, but to discount the complexity of modern games is to not see how far we have come.

I will say it is annoying when they release an obviously unfinished game. 1 hour in on ps5 and I can't say that about this one. It has minor occasional tearing on perf mode for the first 30 minutes.

I havent played it myself but the pc version of last of us seems to be one of those unfinished games; no idea how naughty dog signed off on that one.

SyntheticForm734d ago

I don't think anyone would dispute that modern games are more complex. I think most people just don't believe that unfinished products should be sold. It's that simple.

StarkR3ality734d ago

The problem is twofold, games are more complex yes, and they also cost more to make. The fact that they bragged about this game been made in 3 years is kinda a stupid gloat looking back now.

Devs and publishers are not willing to accept that they are going to need longer to make these games and are pushing these things out before they're ready due to greed and the necessity to please shareholders. Look at Cyberpunk 2077, they were under massive stress from their investors to get that out the door.

2 things that need to change are Devs, publisher's, investors expectations on dev time. Things are going to take longer so therefore you need to accept the delayed return on investment and stick the course.

Another thing is revealing things way too early, I am sick to death of games being revealed and not released within a year of said annoucement. If you haven't gotten to the stage where the game is complete and you're in the stage of polishing I don't wanna hear shit. Early reveals builds up hype sure, but then it puts pressure to deliver and also adds in gamers being pissed off with delays. Gamers are impatient these days, but if you don't give them anything to look forward to until it's nearly ready you mostly avoid that.

Sorry for the rant but I'm sick of these broken ass cash grabs from these greedy as fuck companies. They are making more money than they ever had but it's never enough, absolute parasites.

XbladeTeddy734d ago (Edited 734d ago )

Games are more complex, yes, but development tools are more powerful to deal with that. Not an excuse when the tools and the manpower are there to do the job.

Shiore2u734d ago (Edited 734d ago )

Complex at what? Most AAA games having been doing the bare minimum in terms of interactivity for awhile now despite software and hardware improvements. It's more likely due to nepotism having gotten so bad in recent years that these new bloods can't even handle the bare minimum. I work in VFX and see it in my own industry, merit is hardly the standard for getting hired that it once was.

mkis007733d ago (Edited 733d ago )

@ Shior

There are orders of magnitude more interwoven systems that rely on each other. one small thing is coded with a missing letter and who knows what could break, who knows how traceable it is. Small example.

That said the performance based on the pc version seems to refute my ps5 version comments. They did not respect us on this one.

Where is the time going, this is 2 now? Also, RE4 remake and Diablo 4…

Putte3d ago

Absolutely not the best Star Wars game. That's Star Wars galaxys. Survivor isn't even that good

Becuzisaid3d ago

Not sure I agree about Galaxies, but I definitely think the Jedi series is not the best.

Sonic18813d ago

So what's the best Jedi series?

Becuzisaid3d ago

@Sonic I was meaning the Jedi Fallen Order and Survivor games. Not the greatest.

If you're wanting to know what's the best series with Jedi in it? I mean KOTOR, Jedi Knight, Jedi Academy, Force Unleashed off the top of my head. Even the Episode 3 tie in game was pretty decent.

xHeavYx2d ago

Not a huge Star Wars fan, and only tried Jedi Survivor because of PS+, but I really enjoyed the game to the point where I'd pre-order the sequel.

Fonsecap3d ago

Good game, terrible performance.

jznrpg3d ago

I loved the game but hated the issues. I waited over a year to play it and it still had major issues. I would have went for the platinum but with all the save bugs and other issues I didn’t even think about it

Sciurus_vulgaris3d ago

I’ve played both Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor. I think the games are good not great.

Sadly just if you subscribe to Luna it appears. I hooked my EA account into it, which has Jedi Survivor, and it doesn't show in my Library. They don't show as a source either, so just a heads up to not let your purchasing decision be swayed as to where you pick the titles up if a bonus streaming option held any interest.
