Redfall Has All The Cards Stacked Against It Ahead Of Launch

Redfall has been killed by a thousand cuts. Arkane Studios’ upcoming open world co-op loot shooter is stepping on every single rake it can when it comes to dampening hype and creating a climate where the average gamer can write it off without even playing it.

Xbox had to navigate the toxic landscape of always online infrastructure, deal with a studio previously renowned for sprawling immersive sim adventures shifting to online, and put up with an overblown reaction to a post-launch performance mode across consoles.

The more I see of this game, the less and less interested I become in it. Like I truly don't care now. I'm expecting the game to sell below expectations and be an average online only game. I'll buy it digitally for $20 when the game struggles to maintain players

badz149779d ago

or...you can subscribe to GP for $15 a month a play it there at launch?

MetroidFREAK21779d ago

I literally only use my Xbox for Apex Legends and backwards compatible games

Chevalier778d ago

Why subscribe though? This game will be $15-20 by black Friday guaranteed. Would be cheaper to outright buy

Redfalls issue don't help the situation at xbox imo

StarkR3ality779d ago

I think Redfall has been done dirty by Xbox's lack of 1st party altogether. Instead of being some sort of B lister used to supplement between releases (those games need to exist, not every game released can be a 10/10). Instead it's been left to fulfill the needs of millions of Xbox players that haven't had a big exclusive for like 18 months since Halo.

I don't think this game was ever gunna pull up trees when it was announced, and it wasn't meant to. The situation with Xbox's 1st party is putting a lot of pressure on every game they release to be a 10/10, less than that is just another stick the company with.

I feel bad for Arcane.
I loved Dishonored.
I really didn't care for Deathloop and I didn't play Pray. But I still like the dev.

It's just a shame that they and Bethesda have the burden of carrying Microsoft when their other 1st Perry studios pre buyout have shown nothing. It's not a good situation

Activision dodged a bullet.
Imagine the biggest franchise in gaming as gamepass filler.

BandarHub779d ago

lool
Mate you know the game is not being shat on because of its content which will carry the Arkane DNA like who the previews have said, but it the 30 fps, and always online what is the cause.
So stop fabricating scenarios for yourself and play the game when it comes out.

Bathyj779d ago

I can't. I don't have an Xbox.
Plus to me it not only looks like it runs bad, but it also looks bad visually AND creatively. But it's not my type of game anyway so if this looks good to you good on you.

Christopher778d ago

People have complained a lot about the characters and bland gameplay in addition to other complaints. Why are we acting like that hasn't been a point of contention? I've even complained about some of their past preview gameplay for being low quality and I'm a massive fan of Arkane with this game pre-ordered. Let's not act like there aren't legit complaints, even if you disagree with them.

MrSec84779d ago

Arkane only have themselves to blame for not putting out a new game of the calibre of Dishonered or Prey, they have a track record and they're putting out a game that looks incredibly bland and uninteresting, plus it looks to lack the polish of previous titles they've made, when people know they are capable.

Most likely ZeniMax or Microsoft are pushing them to just put something out for XBox.

"I can't. I don't have an Xbox.

It does not run badly, its runs at 30 fps at 4k. Doesn't mean it runs bad, running bad means its got glitches and bugs.
Get gamepass on PC then

"Activision dodged a bullet."

Yet, its a bullet they want to catch.

I really don't get it at this point. MS seemingly only wanted to buy them - were given the opportunity - because of the massive PR and HR mess that was exposed at Activision. Now all that has disappeared as Activision continues a downward spiral in quality, which is somehow suppose to be fixed by the MS sale, when there the only evidence is a luck of the draw of things not getting more negative. Of MS's need for content rushing a title an causing compromise.

TheColbertinator778d ago

You should check out Prey. Great game and very challenging all the way through. It is up your alley if you are a big sci-fi fan too

Bathyj778d ago

The demo didn't thrill me so that's probably why I skipped it, but yeah I should give it a go. It's on sale all the time.

Christopher777d ago

Great game where you can explore and get yourself into a ton of trouble because they don't wall off the world (though they do make you take workarounds to get there) and you find things that will wreck you.

No 60fps at launch killed any interest i had left in this game.
I cant see how ms can continue much longer without a reason to buy xbox. 3rd party isn't enough.
At one time I was a diehard xbox supporter. Since the release of x1 its just been a steady decline in quality and amount of exclusives.

Concord, Suicide Squad, Fairgame$ And ‘Vibes-Based’ Failures

Paul Tassi: "Sony recently reiterated its commitment to live service games with one big hit last year (Helldivers 2), one big cancellation (The Last of Us Factions) and one big failure (Concord). It’s no great surprise it is continuing down this road, given the way the industry is trending and the limited shelf life of its famed single player games. But it immediately made me think of a game that Sony is allegedly releasing that I have to believe is pre-destined to fail, Fairgame$."

Alos88162d ago

Fairgame$ feels like it's destined to flop out the gate- that initial trailer felt full of that same instantly-dated 'fight The Man with a ragtag team of weirdos' energy that was prevalent in Sega's Hyenas (which they wisely cancelled.) Unlike Marathon I just don't see this standing a chance.

Nacho_Z162d ago

It will definitely flop, missed the boat by a couple of years. Agreed that Marathon has a decent chance of succeeding it looks genuinely good and interesting.

It can't be sustainable having all these expensive GaaS being DOA being balanced by the odd modest success like Helldivers. The aim is to find the new Fortnite or whatever but it's highly unlikely and seems to be a massive waste of money.

Concord and the Other Biggest Flops of This Generation

Some of the biggest success stories in the history of gaming have happened during this generation of gaming. At the same time, some of the biggest flops in the history of gaming have also happened during this generation of gaming. To this end, a few games particularly stick out as, unfortunately, disastrous flops for those who made the games, sold the games, and ultimately, for many that played the games.

What a strange, short list. There have been many more games that arrived DOA, were never released, didn’t make their budget back, etc. Why cherry pick these games? Is this list based on the size of internet hate boners?

EternalTitan280d ago

These flops have a similarity that you may not be allowed to point out.

Skull and Bones gets my vote, at this point just completely remake AC Black Flag. If the Concord developers had made the game free to play, and toned down the in your face messaging via the mods and design choices, this game could have been serviceable eventually. I never understand why pandering to 5% of your audience and giving the finger to the other 95% seems like a good idea to these people. They never seem to learn. Disney has lost 1/3rd of its value and they keep doubling down on political messaging. I don’t get it.

BlackTar187279d ago

Some of these companies are paid huge amounts of money to do this stuff. They get truck loads of money to give “the message”
By blackrock and vanguards and multiple other venture capitalists even though it’s been proven over and over they fail.

I'm not interested in this game but i think it's great they added the offline mode for those who are.

darthv72378d ago

It was okay at first... once they added the performance update it was definitely better.

TwoPicklesGood379d ago

Bury this turd. It’s only good as a reminder of what devs shouldn’t do.

mkis007378d ago

I hate the concept of an announced final update.
