Resident Evil 4 shows remakes don't have to be fully faithful

The new version of Resident Evil 4 works as well as it does because it isn't a perfectly faithful remake.

I still think it's pretty faithful, more than something like FFVII for example.

BandarHub399d ago (Edited 399d ago )

FFVII is not a remake though, after seeing the FFVII rebirth trailer my suspicions were correct where it's a complete continuation of the FFVII story with everyone being reincarnated....where they have to change their fate. The story from here on will follow the same locations but not the same story. The remake in the title means remaking the timeline not a ffvii remake of the original game.

Which in a way is good because if they did follow the story the game would have to span several games

At the end of the day I’m taking FFVII Remake as it was presented to us

It’s literally called “Final Fantasy VII Remake”

If they used the Rebirth title at the start and said multiple times in interviews it wasn’t a straight up remake then fine but they didn’t.

“The remake in the title means remaking the timeline not a ffvii remake of the original game.”

That’s the biggest get out of jail free card if I ever saw one…

"If they used the Rebirth title at the start and said multiple times in interviews it wasn’t a straight up remake then fine but they didn’t."
At the end of the day it was a campaign of deception. They could have easily told us but after the overwhelming reaction to the FF7 remake trailer, they continued deceiving everyone.

TricksterArrow398d ago

I don't feel deceived, so not everyone.

XiNatsuDragnel398d ago

It's pretty faithful while still being amazing in its own right.

Inverno398d ago

I think FF7 proved that first. People just want more of the same, and are content with it. Improvements can always be made, and sticking to what the original did holds back what could be. I want what could be, or could've been.

OhReginald398d ago

I think Re2 remake and re4 remake were done so well. Can't say that about re3 remake...capcom screwed over Jill / nemesis fans.

Smellsforfree398d ago (Edited 398d ago )

I can't put my finger on what exactly makes RE3 so bad compared with the other games. The graphics, presentation, and overall gameplay are perfectly fine but next to RE2 and 4 it feels like a B Movie in-between blockbusters. I see myself replaying RE2 and 4 every few years for awhile, but I doubt I'll ever play RE3 remake again.

OhReginald398d ago

Re3 remake is "okay" if you look at it as a $20 dlc expansion, but it should have been way more than that. It should have been bigger than re2 remake with a larger explorable raccoon city that nemesis pursues you in like the original. In the remake nemesis pursues you for a extremely small portion of the game and then is limited to uninspired set piece boss battles until the end of the game.

-Foxtrot398d ago

Most likely because it was made by a second team who are usually the studio that assists the main team

They wanted it rushed out the door

Apparently RE4 was supposed to be done by them before the main team snatched it back from them after the RE3 disappointment. That's why RE4 restarted development

The original RE3 was a rush job in the first place lol. It was supposed to be a spin-off interquel, but the creators were forced by higher-ups to make a numbered sequel. The areas that were cut from the remake were also never intended to be in the original either, and were slapped in when it was deemed to be too short. I know people still enjoyed it, but RE2 and RE1 were both better crafted games.

Overall Game of the Year 2023

VGChartz's Evan Norris: "Those that made it onto the Shortlist below are each special in their own way. Alan Wake 2, a long time in the making, dazzled players with its cutting-edge graphics and brilliant narrative. Baldur's Gate III wowed critics and consumers alike with an amazing cast of characters and dizzying gameplay freedom. Final Fantasy XVI impressed with its beautiful cut-scenes and fresh take on action combat. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, a game under the shadow of impossibly high expectations, invigorated its audience with endless opportunities for experimentation. And Resident Evil 4 riffed on an 18-year-old formula, in some instances improving on one of the best games of all time."

*shrug*

It's a Nintendo-heavy site. What else can be said?

anast115d ago

A copy-paste game over BG3...Gotta get that access.

coretone109d ago

BG3 is overrated. It's the worst BG there is.

anast108d ago

Give me some exact reasons why it is overrated. I have some ideas, but I want to hear yours first.

Star ocean 2 remake. That's easy to answer

Best Lead Performance of 2023

VGChartz's Lee Mehr: "As the average game script balloons in dialogue there's greater demand for marquee acting talent. And as illustrated by both good & poor examples from 2023, sympathizing with a protagonist's struggle greatly relies on both the writing and delivery. This is emphasized in two unique ways by this year's shortlist: the addition of a voice fundamentally altering Dead Space remake's story beats & the dual protagonist structure in Alan Wake II. A fumble in either of those respects would've resulted in lesser works; fortunately, they're among some of the year's most celebrated titles."

Best VR Game of 2023

VGChartz's Lee Mehr: "2023 was a notable year for VR hardware, with both Sony's PSVR2 and Meta's Meta Quest 3 arriving on the scene. Both of them have primarily earned a considerable amount of praise for their technological advancements, but that's not to say their software output was extinct. Granted, early adoption tends to favor older ports with improved visuals and new controller/headset gimmicks; it comes with the territory. But within that flow of ports and updates came an exclusive for each respective platform reaching our shortlist. It's too early to tell if that presages a bountiful surplus of future masterclass VR games, but it's a welcoming sign all the same."

“Horizon Call of the Mountain” had more bells and whistles and has some wow moments for VR newbies. But I had more fun playing “Synapse”.

DaleCooper125d ago

Synapse was my VR GOTY. Such a great game.

coolbeans124d ago

Damn. I want to try that one soon.

Leeroyw125d ago

Red Matter 2 was it for me. The visuals, scope and writing was incredible.

coolbeans124d ago

Another one I missed from last year.

DaleCooper121d ago

Just picked this up, can't wait to play it!

coolbeans124d ago

Don't spoil the surprise for everyone. ;)
