Redfall Is Already In Trouble Despite Day One Game Pass Launch

The release of the first-person vampire hunting title Redfall is inching closer by the day, but even though it has a day-one spot on the Xbox Game Pass, things could be looking grim regarding long-term interest in the game. Arkane Austin, a smaller sect of the larger Arkane Studios, is a developer with some experience behind its belt, having worked on games like Prey in the past. However, details concerning the launch and subsequent gameplay of Redfall are surprisingly troublesome, and they could lead to an unfortunate fate for the title in the long run.

just_looken384d ago

too true Microsoft has alot of ips but so few are used and of those alot have been bad.

Crackdown
redfall
halo
gears mobile
gears hd remaster

Top of my head

But halo infinite going Teen rated then the bad roadmap then mass layoffs deleting there new slipspace engine has to be the biggest failure so far. They must have lost hundreds of millions from halo infinite disaster.

sparky77383d ago

Really you guys are still bringing up Crackdown. And Gears mobile like what!?

I guess games like HIFI: Rush, Forza Horizon, Age of Empires, Grounded, Pentiment have all been forgotten.

You guys need to try harder it's getting embarrassing how transparent you all are.

sparky77383d ago

@Poopmeister

The only ones complaining constantly about Xbox are Playstation fans, which isn't surprising considering there hasn't be a single PS5 exclusive released this year, but of course Xbox has a problem.

There is a reason the PS fanbase are the laughing stock of the gaming community it's because you are more concerned about Xbox than your own console.

Dirtnapstor383d ago

@sparky77
What are you talking about? PS fans are the one complaining? Nah. We're advocating for you, because you're too busy feeling sorry for yourself, sobbing in the corner. Lol.
But hold up, I'd love to see MS actually kick out some real exclusives that work after all these years. Hi-Fi Rush was a big hit. Kudos to them. But overall, MS needs to bring order to their house.

sparky77383d ago

@Dirtnapstor
Your comment just proved me right. Advocating? You guys are hilarious.

Us Xbox fans know the truth, you guy do it out of fear. You know what is happening and where Xbox and PS will be in 10 years time :)

sparky77383d ago

The denial is strong I see, keep up the advocating guys and have fun ;)

Flakegriffin383d ago (Edited 383d ago )

@Sparky77

Why do you Xbox fans NEVER hold Microsoft accountable? When Sony fans get an ass game, they speak up. When Xbox gets a bad game, Xbox fans turn the goal post and aim at Sony. Hold Microsoft accountable for releasing half baked games after making y’all wait till E3 every year. Why can a company spend $500 million on Halo and $68 billion on Activision but can’t make one game that blows them up, in a good way. Hi-Fi rush was a nice drop but that game was in development before the buy out. So, sure it’s a Xbox game but Xbox wasn’t behind the development for it.

I would love Microsoft to utilize more of their IPs and give us bangers again like the original Xbox/Xbox 360 days. Instead we get Todd Howard 2.0 (aka Phil Spencer) who is a PR god and never delivers. I hope Xbox steps up one day.

Rude-ro383d ago

@sparky
Crackdown is THE best example of the shady tactics from Microsoft.

Yes.. 100% it was a gamepass game with how generic it was.. then Microsoft throws on a AAA price tag to try make gamepass more appealing.

This game is no different. It is not a AAA game.. it is a free to play game with a price tag to make gamepass look more appealing.

Ie there are a lot of gamepass players out there that continuously boost a game because they say “it is free on gamepass”..

andy85383d ago

"You know what is happening and where PS and Xbox will be 10 years" I remember when Xbox 360 was leading and people were all over forums saying the same, it didn't happen then either. PS has a proven track record and MS is always full of false promises, I can't see that changing because the past has never proven that

PhillyDonJawn383d ago (Edited 383d ago )

There's nothing bad about Halo and Redfall hasn't come out so how can you determine its bad?

RauLeCreuset383d ago

"The only ones complaining constantly about Xbox are Playstation fans, which isn't surprising considering there hasn't be a single PS5 exclusive released this year, but of course Xbox has a problem."

If that were the case, it would be because so many unsatisfied Xbox fans also bought a PS or ditched Xbox for one, resulting in a smaller base of Xbox fans, which would have a higher concentration of unwavering loyalists. Case in point, you're trying to argue that PS has the exclusives problem. This flies in the face of what Phil Spencer and Microsoft have admitted over the years.

2014 article: Xbox boss on Uncharted: I wish we had an action-adventure game like that, but we don’t:

"'Do I wish I had an owned IP [intellectual property] first-party action adventure game?' said Spencer. 'Absolutely. But I don’t right now. This (The Tomb Raider deal.) is one that fits well.'”

https://venturebeat.com/gam...

2018 article: The Xbox One has a serious exclusive games problem

"Spencer knows he’s got a problem. He said so himself. 'Our ability to go create content has to be one of our strengths,' he told Bloomberg late last year. 'We haven’t always invested at the same level. We’ve gone through ups and downs in the investment.'”

https://www.polygon.com/201...

Oct 31, 2022 article: Phil Spencer Admits Xbox Needs More "Big First-Party Games":

"It's not been a big year for Xbox in terms of first-party releases. While PlayStation has the likes of Gran Turismo 7, Horizon Forbidden West, and God of War Ragnarok all out in 2022, over on the Microsoft side the release schedule has been much less busy this year.

"Microsoft's head of gaming Phil Spencer has acknowledged it's been a dry one, but is eagerly looking ahead to 2023 (via VGC). 'One thing we've definitely heard loud and clear is it's been too long since we've shipped what people would say is a big first-party game,' Spencer said on the Same Brain videocast."

https://www.thegamer.com/ph...

Nov 23, 2002 article: Many PS5 exclusives are 'better quality' than Xbox, says Xbox

"'In addition to being the dominant console provider, Sony is also a powerful game publisher,' Microsoft says. 'Sony is roughly equivalent in size to Activision and nearly double the size of Microsoft's game publishing business.

'There were over 280 exclusive first- and third-party titles on PlayStation in 2021, nearly five times as many as on Xbox.

"'Sony has more exclusive games than Microsoft, many of which are better quality.'"

PS fans are far from the only ones who complain, but if you must know why we complain it's because of the crazy wasted potential of a trillion dollar company who has been in the industry for far too long to be this unreliable.

I personally hold PlayStation to the same standard, and ya no first party exclusives so far this year is ok to me because of what we got in the past 12 months.

hopefully it doesn't take xbox another 10 years.

jjb1981382d ago

I'm starting to think Sparky77 and Guilty Spark are the same person. All this "Captain-save-a-Phil" ; nonsense. Do you work for 343 or something? Seems like you'd take a bullet for Phil since you're always trying your hardest to justify his antics.

Halo. Ms's Big flagship title. I really like the lore of it all. They could have gone big with Halo Infinite but too bad they went the other way.

execution17383d ago

I was once upon a time hyped for it when they showed off the slipstream engine for the first time... and all that went poof on the gameplay reveal. Gave it a chance hoping that I'd like it but felt like a poor man's far cry set in the halo universe

neutralgamer1992383d ago (Edited 383d ago )

They need to delay this game and launch it when it doesn't need big promises before launch of features coming later via patches

This games PR has been so mind boggling. It's always online "but now we will remove that later" " it's 30FPS and we will add more options later"

How about fix the game and make sure it's ready at launch and then launch it

Just being on GP won't give developers a free pass "no pun intended"

ThePacemaker383d ago

I bet Starfield will have the same treat.

DOMination-383d ago

You guys need to make up your minds. It wasn't too long ago that Redfall and Starfield weren't MS games and that they merely purchased them well into development. Which is it?

Umb383d ago

Microsoft is in it for the long game. Its not about producing quality games that the masses wants to buy. It's about slowly killing off competition and monopolising the industry, which in turn will force the consumer to like it, lump it or leave.
Additionally it is about the next generation of gamers who will only know Microsoft as the gaming place to be, should they get their way. Just look at history in the gaming industry with the number of hardware manufacturers before and even the pc space. Who remember Lotus Suite back in the early 90s which was the precursor to today's Excel and MS Office overall.

Godmars290383d ago

What gets me is the mentality that MS represents quality, that they provide resources and the like to their devs, when there's not been one example of such. That if anything the reverse is true. They either limit resources, or have devs make compromises to get titles out. Or they'll do both, resulting in disappointing day one releases after multiple delays that might see improvements months to years after the fact.

gangsta_red384d ago

Damn, it's almost like we forgot just a couple of weeks ago the many early review articles we got where they were praising the game.

SullysCigar384d ago

All previous gameplay has been shown at 60fps, so will have been on a PC build. Now we know it's launching on xbox at 30fps and we've also learned it's 'always online' and seen the most up-to-date gameplay via IGN which was AWFUL.

The jury's out, but they let the hype build and the cracks have only appeared over the past two weeks to reveal all the stuff they tried to hide - including no UE5 after all, sadly. All hope's not lost, but this game has taken hit after hit and it's a bit bloodied as a result.

gangsta_red384d ago

"...most up-to-date gameplay via IGN which was AWFUL."

Was this the same IGN that said they had the best time with the game? Yes, I believe it was.

Always online didn't seem to stop them from giving it a great review and the footage they shown was basically them not knowing how to play or what to do.

And the whole 30fps thing, yes, disappointing but not the end of the world. But let's be honest, not one of us here would be able to tell or know if it was at that rate if it wasn't told to us.

I played GoW Ragnarok on base PS4 and not once did I say , "eeeww gross, 30fps!"

Just the more over exaggerated, fake concern that we come to expect.

SullysCigar383d ago

^ Yes, very wise, you should totally listen to IGN and not be your own man and make your own mind up... fml

As for the framerate, any gamer would know the difference between 30fps and 60fps. Even in the event that your senses betrayed you, your lack of success in a first-person shooter (yes, that's why it's an issue, but you knew that, huh..) would drag you kicking and screaming into understanding WHY it's an issue here.

Eonjay383d ago

IGN is a joke on the gaming community. I'm not saying that Redfall is a great game but it can't possibly be as bad as these non gamers make stuff look.

P_Bomb383d ago

“But let's be honest, not one of us here would be able to tell or know if it was at that rate if it wasn't told to us.”

Oh I can definitely tell frames, but I’m a performance mode guy. We streamed the PS3 version of Slender last night and hoo boy, what a potato lol.

Lightning77383d ago

"and seen the most up-to-date gameplay via IGN which was AWFUL."

The funny part is if you read the comment section they were blasting IGN for how they badly they were playing the game. Not the actual game itself. There's also videos blasting IGN for that terrible gameplay.

IGN's gameplay was misrepresenting the actual game. Especially when there's allot of good gameplay out there.

You're trying to paint the IGN gameplay and the game itself as bad. Because of course you are, predictably so.

gangsta_red383d ago (Edited 383d ago )

@Sullycigar

Oh, IGN isn't to be trusted now??

When IGN gave Ragnarok a 10, you were all up in the comments section jumping for joy, calling everyone out on a victory.

https://n4g.com/news/251832...

But now it's don't listen to IGN, make up your own mind and such. Too classic, but absolutely expected.

You can see my own comments about Redfall. I said it looks interesting and if I get a L4D experience I'm all for it. But that's not the point here is it, we're discussing the early reviews, not just IGNs.

"As for the framerate, any gamer would know the difference between 30fps and 60fps"

Stop the extreme cap, no gamer wouldn't. This is exactly why everyone patiently waits for a DF article and side by side comparisons looking at graphs going up and down then comes here to celebrate which system is better.

@Eonjay
I'm sure you were a master when you first played CoD, Battlefield, Apex or whatever and you knew the map like the back of your hand.

They jumped on a brand new game and recorded it. It wasn't going to be eSports competitive playoffs footage.

SullysCigar383d ago

^ @Red, quote me where I said I trust IGN's opinion? You can't - you've already tried trawling past comments for a gotcha moment and failed, as shown by that link. We all know they can't play games, but they didn't make that AI look dumb AF, it just is. Could it still be fun? Sure. Has it's reputation suffered as a result? Certainly, but it's not the end of the world. Are we also blaming IGN for all of this game's other issues, past and present?

You're just lashing out and trying to personalise a discussion about gaming. You're smarter than that, unlike Lightning77, who's basic and predictable tactics you unfortunately seem to be employing here. In my opinion, the game was flawed ASIDE from the obvious downfalls that come with a 'player' employed by IGN. I'm happy for you if you felt differently, such is your privilege.

gangsta_red383d ago (Edited 383d ago )

@Sully

Is this not what you said...

"Yes, very wise, you should totally listen to IGN and not be your own man and make your own mind up... fml"

If we're going to be all literal now then quote me saying I'm only listening to IGN and not making up my own mind about Redfall.

Point of my original comment was most if not all the early reviews (besides one or two) loved the game, even IGN with their supposed 'AWFUL' (all caps as you left it) gameplay. So it's funny now to read this doom and gloom article only few weeks after those reviews.

It's all to convenient to trash IGN now, but you were definitely celebrating IGN when they gave GoW a perfect 10. Not one comment from you about making up your own mind and not listening to IGN.
(Also it's funny people are expecting expert gameplay from IGN who just got their hands on the review)

"Are we also blaming IGN for all of this game's other issues, past and present?"

Why are you asking me this? I never blamed anyone in the first place. This is only you that has an issue with the so called other "problems". I already stated those aren't a problem for me, never has been. Arkane never said the game was using UE5, they even had that on their actual website, I don't have any issues with always online as I'm always connected anyways.

Does it suck there's no quality mode at launch, yes. Will it stop me from playing the game at launch, no. Will this mode be introduced later and soon after launch as stated by Arkane themselves, yes.

I have zero issues with the game, especially not any to warrant a dead on arrival attitude like some here.

Lightning77383d ago

'unlike Lightning77, who's basic and predictable tactics you unfortunately seem to be employing here."

You have this over exaggerated hate crusade tirade you got going on with Redfall. Take unfavorable news, size it up and blow it all out of proportion for a fanboy agenda. In which you losing btw.

You still couldn't tell me why Forspoken isn't 4k 60. Regardless this isn't a just Xbox issue. There's been several instances where games weren't 4k 60 in open worlds at launch.

FinalFantasyFanatic383d ago

There is a noticeable difference between 30 and 60 fps, it's when we get to the higher frame rates that it gets hard to tell (e.g. 120fps and 144fps, or 144fps vs 240 fps).

To be fair, Cyberpunk 2077 also was praised by "influencers" before the release. And that didn't turn out well.

And wasn't Redfall shown on PC, hence better graphics/performance, same as Cyberpunk? It's like they learned from CD Projekt RED's playbook.

BehindTheRows383d ago (Edited 383d ago )

"But let's be honest, not one of us here would be able to tell or know if it was at that rate if it wasn't told to us"

As a PC gamer, I happily disagree. There is a CLEAR difference between 30 and 60fps.

More importantly, and as many have noted, y'all should be holding Microsoft to a higher standard than this. They do what they do because many of you don't even bat an eye. Being promised 60fps and UE% to find out later that neither is the case is something you should be against, not defending because you prefer Xbox.

gangsta_red382d ago (Edited 382d ago )

Where was the promise from MS or Arkane for UE5 for Redfall?

And you act like 60fps is permanently off the table. Arkane said it's coming after launch

"...not defending because you prefer Xbox."

So what do you suggest? Write angry posts on a feature that Arkane has already stated will be coming soon after launch?

Maybe there wouldn't be a need to defend Xbox if others wouldn't take opportunities to over exaggerate, make up false narratives and do this pretend concern only for their personal fanboy fuel.

BehindTheRows382d ago (Edited 382d ago )

"Coming after launch" is the issue. It was promised for launch and isn't happening. There's a reason this is seeing so much backlash (and no, not just from PlayStation fans either). This is on top of the co-op issue that is also present.

Also, your defense explanation could be applied to any brand under any circumstance. But, Xbox doesn't need your shield up. It will be fine.

gangsta_red382d ago (Edited 382d ago )

This is the second time you said it was "promised". You haven't provided any proof for the promise of UE5 and now you're doubling down for 60 at launch. When were these promised?

You can't claim I'm defending Xbox, especially against your false claims of promises that were never made. That's not how it works.

BehindTheRows382d ago (Edited 382d ago )

Um, why show a game running at 60fps to only say, just prior to launch — "hey, just kidding. It's coming in a patch post launch!"? I'm not going to spoon feed this to you. Clearly there is a lot of backlash and there's a reason for that. It wasn't shown running on Xbox hardware. Doesn't require Stephen Hawking to tell me that. You claim that's false? Okay bud. On YOU to show me how, while everyone else knows the truth.

Th only thing I'll retract is UE5, because they mentioned, but didn't promise, it. The fps issue? I stand firm, as do most of the articles highlighting it.

And no way would you defend PlayStation if Sony showed a game at 60fps only to launch it later at 30 and talk about a post launch patch. Which is fine — they would get plenty of deserved backlash. Here we have a game that was advertised with a specific framerate. Until the game runs at that framerate, people are not going to be happy and it makes sense. You're not defending it for any other reason than preference.

gangsta_red381d ago (Edited 381d ago )

You claimed someone promised all these now you're saying something completely different. So no, it's not on ME, it's on you to provide proof that MS and Arkane promised 60fps on launch for Xbox Series X just as YOU claimed they did.

"And no way would you defend PlayStation if Sony showed a game at 60fps only to launch it later at 30 and talk about a post launch patch."

I wouldn't? Again, another claim you have zero way of proving true, this is your problem. I have maintained since joining this site that no one can tell the difference between 30fps/60fps unless told. You're welcome to google through my comments and try and find me saying any different.

I've already claimed that it's disappointing, but not the end of the world and definitely won't take away the enjoyment of the game (if it is fun). But the way some people are carrying on is obviously because of their extreme bias against MS and Xbox and not letting any little opportunity to bash the system get away. People are attacking it only for that specific reason.

BehindTheRows381d ago

"Saying something completely different". Uh no, Sir Semantic. You pull the same bullshit all the time and play dumb. I've steadfast on the 60fps issue. I won't repeat myself again. You will stay trying to find gotchas that don't exist and defend Xbox like you birthed it.

I appreciate others willing to look beyond their preference and call this nonsense as they see it. The 60fps "footage" was never from an Xbox and that's a problem (along with other things they did here).

Unless this sells well on PC or Xbox users spend a fortune on MTs how is this game going to make any profit? The game was set to release on three paying platforms, now it only has one thanks to MS buying the multiplatform market and banning competition from Bethesda titles.

MrDead382d ago

..."exclusives" aren't normally multiplatform that have been developed for a multiplatform release only for it to be banned from anyone that dares challenge MS... also exclusives are produced differently from multiplatform titles that are used to sell a platform.

LabRat383d ago (Edited 383d ago )

The funding for this game and all future MS games is from there gamepass subscribers. If they have 25 million subscribers at roughly $10 a sub, they get $250 million every single month. In one month they funded like 2 AAA games. There goal isn't for people to buy it, there goal is for people to subscribe for $15 a month. They want to have like 50 million subscribers so the games just fund themselves.

TheEnigma313383d ago

There aren't 25 million paying $15 a month. I got it for a year for $23

LabRat383d ago (Edited 383d ago )

@enigma I know there aren't. I just used it as an example because he was saying unless it sells well on PC, this game won't make any money. He might be right, but i was just saying that they care more about getting people to subscribe to gamepass than sales.

MrDead382d ago

"If they have 25 million subscribers at roughly $10 a sub, they get $250 million every single month."

...unless you're 5 years old or have never worked in any business in your entire life I can tell you that's not how business works!!! Do you think that's pure profit or are there other costs involved?

Way to crucify a game before it's even out.(see what I did there?)

The thing is, almost every hands-on previews said the game was really fun.

The negative minority of hardcore gamers will matter not in the end. Look at HoL, the game did really well on GP even when met with a similar "internet" bashing.

Eonjay383d ago (Edited 383d ago )

I don't think we have ever seen Footage on Xbox and Starfield is probably 30 FPS too.

I think it's not fair to Xbox owners. All PS5 games from Sony and exclusives PS5 games have several performance modes.

Also, Ghostwire Tokyo is also a UE4 FPS and supports 1440P at 30 quality mode and 900p at 60 on XSS not to mention all the XSX modes up to 120 FPS.

So clearly this is an example of Microsoft not caring to polish their GamePass content. People should be mad.

Lightning77383d ago

Man you are reaching. Let's ignore Deathloop that's dynamic 4k 60. It's almost like it depends on the game and it varies.

Imagine that.

Eonjay383d ago

In addition they have only shown footage at 60 FPS. So again on top of other games hitting 60 on UE4, on top of stating that 60 FPS is in the works, on top of only showing 60 FPS it can't really come as a shock that people are pissed its launching without it.

Most Disappointing Game of 2023

VGChartz's Craig S: "Who doesn't love a good dose of schadenfreude every now and then? There was no shortage of that on offer in terms of video games last year, hidden in plain sight amongst the more genuine disappointments (I'll leave it for you to decide which category each of the following games falls into).

One unfortunate trend when it comes to the biggest disappointments of the last year was that so many were new IPs, including Bethesda's latest major release Starfield, the Arkane Studio B-team's abortive attempt at a co-op vampire shooter, and Square Enix's action RPG Forspoken. Mega-franchise Call of Duty and the perennially delayed The Lord of the Rings: Gollum round out the list of Nominees."

firewall ultra absolutely a dumpster fire that killed the studio.

007 goldeneye the port of the N64 game it's disappointing as we didn't get the rare remaster version and the switch version has very poor controls.

I personally fall on the 'Gollum disappointing' spectrum. Here's why: even though Daedalic Entertainment was hopping out of their point-n-click lane, they *were* a solid group of devs that had an unexpected concept. Those two things, cheering on a dev taking a risk with a brand and the odd-yet-intriguing template, at least made me hope for something decent; instead, it's the reason they're only publishing now.

CBaoth100d ago

But the concept never stood a chance, even in the heyday of the Metal Gear/Splinter Cell days. When this was announced, no one was intrigued by its premise. Fell flat on its face. Even if Gollum had come out to glowing reviews the game would've struggled to perform financially. That's why it's not disappointing, just bad. Had no hype. All the other games Prof listed had the potential to sell great or be reviewed better but failed. Low effort remasters like the GTA collection, the RDR port, and MGS Collection could all sell well but still be severely disappointing. Gollum was uninteresting at concept, terrible in its execution. The result was expected sadly.

Goldeneye is so weird

We got no proper remaster for it despite the fact it was being worked on and it was almost done apparently then the Xbox version didn't come with online play but the Nintendo Switch one did...the Switch...the system where online play is a f***** ballache.

I recently came back to Redfall, my lord...the controls and movement were a disgrace! I felt like my character was drunk. Zero fine movement control. The XBOX producers on this game should be fired.

I think Diablo IV deserves to be on this list. While not the worst made game, it was one of the most disappointing. Many of us had such high expectations for it and it turned out to be so incredibly dull, a slog to play.

Sonic1881101d ago

It's basically Diablo Immoral 2.0 with lots of microtransactions

DarkZane100d ago

Diablo 3 was as much as a dumpster fire at launch, but a year later, it became a very good game and was well worth playing. Give Diablo 4 the same time. In a year, it's going to be awesome I bet.

coolbeans100d ago

I was under the impression their most-recent update fits that bill.

OtterX100d ago

K I'll try reinstalling in a year or 2.

I didn't play D3 until after the first year, so I will certainly give it another shot.. especially to try and get my money's worth out of it. But at launch, I was bored out of my mind and uninstalled it.

Sonic188199d ago

That's the biggest issue. Unfinished games with lots of flaws and issues during launch. Unfortunately, most gamers don't forget or forgive that and would rather spend their money on another game

Jedi Survivor was disappointing for me because I waited until a month ago to play it and it still has major issues. My saves were getting corrupted so I had to restart an old save however many times and a plethora of other bugs.

Of course there is Redfall Starfield but to me it’s MS overhype underdeliver so I expected it to some extent but not as bad as it was.

Gollum had little to no expectations.

Forspoken was a disappointment but not as bad as it was made out to be especially if you turned on Japanese voice acting. It was a 7 type of game but it looked like it could have been better.

Diablo 4 was scored well at launch but all my friends that loved and played 3 (after years of swasons) up until 4 were disappointed with 4 and don’t play it anymore .

Factions getting canceled was a bit of a disappointment. Not huge as I don’t play gaas much but it was disappointing.

Nintendo not releasing Switch 2 again was disappointing to me. I don’t use my Switch much it’s just so outdated and mosty kiddy games release some more games that I want to play not my kids!

No physical copy for Alan Wake 3 disappointing as hell, actually beyond that it is upsetting (to some extent,I will live of course)

Gamers getting used to owning nothing and renting games is very disappointing. I don’t watch Netflix anymore it’s mosty mediocre crap and rental services will go that direction if allowed.

this whole gen has been a major disappointment to me. Least amount of gaming I've done since bar/clubbing days. Watching fanboys argue now is akin to a couple of kids fighting over the front seat of a short bus. They can't even argue over games anymore.....cuz there aren't any! With two of the console manufacturers "switching' over to x86 architecture we shouldn't be having these draughts but here we are. And the third happily chugs along selling games on decade old microchips with an OLED screen.

Profchaos100d ago (Edited 100d ago )

X86 is a shared architecture but both run different development pipelines so they still have to Dev for those consoles plus PC and Arm if a switch port is included.

None of this will reduce Dev times games are complex now probably more than they need to be honestly but if every studio takes 3 to 5 or even 10 years to bring out their big titles there's going to be many dry spells

On that note arm processing is far more efficient than x86 I think Nintendo is making the right call sticking with that and we will probably see Sony and Microsoft do the same next gen as more effort is being made to bring arm into desktop space lately

Profchaos100d ago

Being disappointed that Nintendo isn't releasing ultra violent games is like being disappointed that the the next GTA game is open world. Plus totk and Metroid prime remaster did come out this year that's about as violent as they will even get

Im pretty certain that one experiment in publishing devils third is one they would like to forget.

Plus all rumours for the switch 2 places it's release in 2024 they make killer numbers at Christmas if they announce they are making a switch 2 those sales dwindle and shareholders get upset. If a switch 2 doesn't release this year that's disappointing. And if third party's don't develop for it even more so there's zero garuntee they will

I agree gamers getting used to owning nothing is a huge disappointment I don't think many will go silently into that one though

Xbox Game Pass App for Quest VR is totally pointless but has so much potential

CG writes: In this video, we take a closer look at the recently released Xbox Game Pass App for Quest VR headsets and determine that due to being able to do more with the Quest Browser, it’s pretty pointless as it is. Yet, there’s so much room for potential with the social aspects of the devices. We also compare to how it holds-up against paid for apps like Virtual Desktop.

When i first tried it... it gave me a headache with its frame rate and pacing. The update did a good job of mitigating those issue and its been rather fun at times. Still seems like there is more work to be done but otherwise this is at least how it should have been from the beginning. if it was... things would have turned out differently.

maniacmayhem148d ago

I've heard the update did this game a bit of justice. Unfortunately, I think for a game like this the damage is done and there's no turning it around.

It's different for survival type, MMO lite games that may be light on content at release like Sea of Thieves or NMS, but for a co-op multiplayer shooter, low framerate, bad AI, etc, not a lot of people are willing to come back with so many other better options on the market.

thesoftware730148d ago (Edited 148d ago )

I went back to it as well, and having good fun with my friend that actually bought it for $8.

I'm in the same boat as Darth, at launch it gave me a headache, I'm not even sure if it was 30fps, and the enemies were to spaced out with bad AI. Since then they added more enemies, fixed some of their AI(getting stuck behind cars and such) up'ed the FPS, now I'm having fun.

They still need to add more weapon variety, and better rewards for completing nest and such. I keep getting low level items that are to easily dismissed . They also need to fix some of the interface, like the map market on the map screen sucks. With some fixes they can make it a solid 7 or 8 out of 10 game.

Inverno148d ago

There's nothing to find out. The game hasn't gotten any actual update that makes it worth buying. Just some general fixes, but it's still an incomplete game, they sold you an incomplete game, knowingly, and hyped it up, and lied about it. Stop letting these things slide.
