Redfall: Xbox consoles 60 FPS Performance mode will be added at a later date

Xbox Series X: 4K 30 FPS
Xbox Series S: 1440p 30 FPS

sparky77780d ago

They should just delay it, a FPS with 60fps is a bad look.

There are plenty of games to play right now so we can wait.

-Mika-780d ago

They delayed the game long enough. What the hell were the developers doing with all this time? Especially since they only have one platform they have to focus on!

FlavorLav01780d ago

3 platforms. Series X/S and PC. But yea, what gives?…a new “current gen” only FPS stuck at 30 frames. Not a great looks at all.

SullysCigar780d ago

^ And this right after GT7 got a 120hz mode. Oof.

seanpitt23780d ago (Edited 780d ago )

This is why we need a pro model next year! They need to optimise it more, Expect more 30fps games in the next couple of years!

Extermin8or3_780d ago

Technically one as the api's for the 3 are virtually the same. Literally a pc version of a game is very very similar to the xbox console version and the series s and x both run same code so technically 2 platforms at most. More like 1.5.

Lightning77780d ago

Probably polishing it. Squashing bugs, making sure it's not broken.

Christopher780d ago

While I'm not saying it's acceptable to release w/o 60fps for a shooter, I will say Arkane was working on two games at once (Deathloop and Redfall). Deathloop in 2021, plus release on Xbox in 2022, and Redfall throughout all of that. Sounds like milestones weren't met, and it's understandable in the industry, but you then have to build to prevent that from happening again or learn to not double-develop like they were.

neutralgamer1992780d ago

seanpitt23

No they didn't need such a weaker series S. It's clearly holding back developer resources

On topic:

It seems this game can't get out of its own way to be successful. I don't know if its Bethesda PR or MS but whoever it is has done this game wrong. Especially for a new IP

1440p-60 should be required

Godmars290780d ago

Likely because PC was their priority.

if you gotta play it at higher fps at launch, then maybe try PC then?
but then again, given the state of pc ports at launch these days, who knows if you'll even get 30 on an RTX 4090 at launch...
... and damn Redfall is running on UE4, the main hero of PC shader compilation stuttergate woes.
: /
https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Extermin8or3_780d ago

Direct x is the cause of the shader issues for the most part. The stutters is actually mainly due to hardware architecture differences between the consoles. Particularly thr ps5 and pc which given ps5 is lead platform for most multiplatform titles is why the xbox often has performance issues too although it's more similar to the ps5 in its ram setup and has an ssd even if it is slower. Best way to eliminate stutter on pc atm is a cpu with a massive cache as the problem seems to be caused by the fact on console it can read data from ssd direct to gpu in latest consoles and in ps5s case decompression is handled by specialised chip separate from the cpu. So as ps5 won't be getting this it's likely the pc version will have less issues as the xbox hardware is more similar to a pc meaning porting it and optimising should have been easier.

RaidenBlack780d ago (Edited 780d ago )

@Extermin8or3_
" Best way to eliminate stutter on pc atm is a cpu with a massive cache as the problem seems to be caused by the fact on console it can read data from ssd "
Nups.
If that was the case then we'd have seen the same problem on last gen systems for cross-gen games as well.
And if it is indeed strictly hardware related, then the problems shouldn't get solved post launch via patches.
Yes unified memory on consoles vs RAM + vRAM on PC is the main sore point during porting but ... past PC ports from devs have been pretty stellar. The avg success PC port streak mainly broke in recent years.
Hardware differences has existed since the start of gaming. The devs just need to invest more time to code and test to ensure a version of software running acceptably on a particular hardware.
The only thing that has changed since past times are devs' over reliance of post-launch fixes these days.
Just look at Capcom. Their PC ports were hit n miss in the past. Now they've improved a lot in current times, not the other way round like other devs.

Obscure_Observer780d ago (Edited 780d ago )

"There are plenty of games to play right now so we can wait."

That´s what I´ll doing. First always online, then no UE5 to that shitty gameplay from IGN and, now this???

I won´t be playing a 30fps game on my SX, so, unfortunally Redfall will be a hard pass from me come May 2.

That´s a bummer because I was really hyped about this game. Arkane should just delay it until get it right.

Lightning77780d ago

A finish product mainly includes None game breaking bugs. Making sure the game runs well with the least amount of bugs as possible.

It's bad the game won't be 60 fps, embarrassing even. But if they feel they have a polished game that's complete, then they need to go and release the game.

No more waiting. Let the 60 FPS come later. If you're a Xbox fan you'll be waiting for nearly eternity for AAA gaming. It'll be nearly a year in half since the last AAA game and that was Halo Infinite back in December 2021.

I doubt either the heads of Arkane or even the head honcho MS would step in and issue another 2 month delay just for 60 fps.

Phish780d ago

Agreed, I'll wait until I can play this at 60fps.

Lightning77780d ago

I disagree they don't need another delay. MS needs games badly. 30 fps is atrocious of course but Arkane just needs to make sure the game wont be buggy and broken. Prioritize the polish of the game and release 60 fps later.

Again no more delays.

Obscure_Observer780d ago

"Again no more delays."

I stand by my opinion. The game should be delayed otherwise it could become a trend of uncompleted and or unfinished games at XGS. We should not give Arkane a pass for this! Especially after 1 year delay. They should release a finished product or none at all!

Sonic1881780d ago (Edited 780d ago )

Quantity over Quality = gamepass for future games. You get what you pay for especially for a subscription service that cost only $10 bucks a month. Arkane don't care because they're already getting paid from Microsoft doesn't matter if it's an unfinished product or not.

porkChop780d ago

I agree. It should be delayed. I'd assume it wouldn't take *that* long to optimize a 60fps mode either.

Jin_Sakai780d ago

A FPS at 30fps? You have got to be kidding.

Microsoft’s mismanagement of first party developers never cease to amaze me.

DarXyde780d ago

Seems like they've got it backwards (at least in my view). Better to come out with a 1440p/60fps mode now and bring out the 4k mode later.

badz149780d ago

this game has had nothing but PR nightmare since its marketing began. MS can't even handle the few games they have

Sonic1881780d ago

I think Redfall will be decent, but between this, the PR/marketing decisions, and the release date (four days after Star Wars and ten days before Zelda), sure seems like Bethesda wants it to fail

Vizigoth04779d ago

Sucks but I wonder if they can fix this by dropping the Series S requirement and have it run it via cloud gaming. Much like Nintendo/CoD potentially?

SullysCigar780d ago

So, Microsoft is launching their games day and date with PC and no longer bringing their own console ports up-to-scratch. This is ridiculous. 60fps on PC and 30fps on console "until a later date" - where have I heard that before? Oh yeah, 343i - and that went well...

All this after already hugely delaying the game. WTAF is wrong with them? Honestly, another delay would be a better look, and that's saying something at this point.

darthv72780d ago

not going to lie... this is disappointing. I generally use performance mode for all the games that support it. I can wait until they patch it in, but it's still disappointing.

Extermin8or3_780d ago

In 343i defence the series s couldn't do splitscreen and MS won't let a title have gameplay features on series x that aren't on the s - hence it never got the feature. MS decided to go with such a low spec for series s so really it isn't thr devs fault.

dumahim780d ago

Nonsense. You can force it to do split screen and it even works on Xbox One. There's some relatively minor bugs and some things could be ironed out, but it's so pathetic that they got so close and just dropped it.

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Chevalier780d ago

Is the Series S version the reason they can't launch with 60 fps? Would have thought at least Xbox 1st party would launch with all the modes together. Definitely poor management or design choices.

solideagle779d ago

calm down guys, MS is in the middle of acquisition/purchasing of 60fps. It will take some time :) /s

thesoftware730780d ago

Why not just have a 1440p 60 fps on SX?

You know, quality and performance modes... that's disappointing, still gonna play it though lol.

Workshyskiver780d ago

There's clearly an issue theyvare struggling with that happens when they run it at 60fps on consoles, and they've decided that will be patched out once they dedicate time to it. Its not as simple as just tell the game what fps and resolution to run at .

Bathyj780d ago

Not even when you can eat monsters for breakfast?

abstractel780d ago

It's likely that they got the game running at 60fps on X already but not on the SX and MS doesn't want that disparity. The SX is a curse on this generation.

Extermin8or3_780d ago

Because MS would likely find a lawsuit and have to payout due ti advertising claiming gameplay features and such wouldn't be available on the x that weren't on the s. Frame rate modes 60fps is clearly one they consider to be part of that promise.

thesoftware730780d ago

There would be no missing gameplay features.

Am I missing something as there are games already on the S that are scaled back from the X version? Less fps, assets, Ray Tracing, and definitely resolution.

I'm not sure im seeing the whole picture..

dumahim780d ago

FPS and resolution are not gameplay features.

thesoftware730780d ago

What parity policy? Between A and X?
There are already games that run at lower frame rates, resolution, reduced assets on Series S...why would this be different?

Am I missing something?

Hofstaderman780d ago (Edited 780d ago )

@thesoftware730 As per Microsoft games released on series X and Series S are to perform the same. Please refer to the Baldurs Gate 3 saga. They couldn’t release that game on BOTH the Series consoles because they couldn’t get split screen to run on the Series S so they going ahead and releasing on PS5 and PC.

thesoftware730780d ago (Edited 780d ago )

Hof, that is a completely different situation and a 3rd party developer's decision at that.

FPS and an entire mode(split screen) are vastly different, additionally, there are already games that lack visual polish on the S compared to the X.

You guys are making up this parity clause of the resolution, frame rate, and assets. Please instead of making up stuff, show me where you got this parity clause of RES and FPS. It makes no sense as this game itself breaks this fake parity clause, as it only runs at 1440p on the S compared to the X's 4k. Some SS games don't even have quality modes and performance modes.

Split screen is a mode, not a spec, that mode being missing from BG3 would definitely be a disparity, that's what made you present this parity thing as fact?...come on man lol...you had me scratching my head for a moment, your comment is not valid.

thesoftware730780d ago

👍🏿, no problem, I was confused as well...thought I might have missed something that happened.

This RF news sucks...but im still gonna play it.lol.

Sonic1881780d ago (Edited 780d ago )

Hearing this from you is comical. So are you acknowledging the fact that the Series S is holding back the Series X? I rest my case

Obscure_Observer780d ago

@CaptainHenry916

"Hearing this from you is comical. So are you acknowledging the fact that the Series S is holding back the Series X? I rest my case"

I´m not a hypocrite banned clown like you. You been bashing this game from day one for no reason, other than your hate for anything Xbox related. So it´s not surprising you been here spreading FUD bs on SS.

Unlike you and your PS cult, I´ll not sugar coat or attempt damage control for MS fu$% ups! This is unacceptable and not Xbox Series owner should be ok with this sh!t.

You can have your laugh, though. Enjoy.

Sonic1881780d ago (Edited 780d ago )

"You been bashing this game from day one for no reason"

Maybe Microsoft wanted to rush this to gamepass. Maybe that's why the quality of this game looks awful. I also bashed Forspoken after launch. That game didn't look good either. I'm getting the same vibes with Redfall. I need to clarify something, I've never own a PS4 or PS3. I'm a PC gamer first and just invested in a PS5 this generation. So saying I'm a PS fanboy is interesting and comical. But for you thinking that is kinda entertaining though. In your mind, anyone that don't like a few Xbox games is a playstation fanboy that's a member of a playstation cult WTF😀😂 All Microsoft had to do is give Redfall another delay

BTW I'm a member of PC gamepass

masterfox780d ago

well you can thanks the xbox series S for that, probably still figuring out how to enable that mode in S without affecting that much in visual details.

ModsDoBetter780d ago

I can see where they were coming from with a middle of the road console on a budget BUT they probably should’ve just focused on that streaming console they had in the works instead because the S is severely holding the SX back.

But what I don’t understand is how Sony is able to have games like God of War, Spider-Man, etc look and run decent on LAST GEN machines when Microsoft can’t get a current gen S up to standard.

Sonic1881780d ago (Edited 780d ago )

Because Sony first party developers has been in the game for a long time and understand and know the Playstation hardware better than anyone. The developers are in sync with the hardware and Mark Cerny made it easy for the developers. I wouldn't be surprised if he's the leading architect and designer for the PS6

ChasterMies780d ago

Because Sony has already built in support for its studios and 3rd party studios that make exclusives for PlayStation. Microsoft doesn’t have that, apparently, and Bethesda isn’t exactly known for high performing games.

Concord, Suicide Squad, Fairgame$ And ‘Vibes-Based’ Failures

Paul Tassi: "Sony recently reiterated its commitment to live service games with one big hit last year (Helldivers 2), one big cancellation (The Last of Us Factions) and one big failure (Concord). It’s no great surprise it is continuing down this road, given the way the industry is trending and the limited shelf life of its famed single player games. But it immediately made me think of a game that Sony is allegedly releasing that I have to believe is pre-destined to fail, Fairgame$."

Alos88149d ago

Fairgame$ feels like it's destined to flop out the gate- that initial trailer felt full of that same instantly-dated 'fight The Man with a ragtag team of weirdos' energy that was prevalent in Sega's Hyenas (which they wisely cancelled.) Unlike Marathon I just don't see this standing a chance.

Nacho_Z149d ago

It will definitely flop, missed the boat by a couple of years. Agreed that Marathon has a decent chance of succeeding it looks genuinely good and interesting.

It can't be sustainable having all these expensive GaaS being DOA being balanced by the odd modest success like Helldivers. The aim is to find the new Fortnite or whatever but it's highly unlikely and seems to be a massive waste of money.

Concord and the Other Biggest Flops of This Generation

Some of the biggest success stories in the history of gaming have happened during this generation of gaming. At the same time, some of the biggest flops in the history of gaming have also happened during this generation of gaming. To this end, a few games particularly stick out as, unfortunately, disastrous flops for those who made the games, sold the games, and ultimately, for many that played the games.

What a strange, short list. There have been many more games that arrived DOA, were never released, didn’t make their budget back, etc. Why cherry pick these games? Is this list based on the size of internet hate boners?

EternalTitan266d ago

These flops have a similarity that you may not be allowed to point out.

Skull and Bones gets my vote, at this point just completely remake AC Black Flag. If the Concord developers had made the game free to play, and toned down the in your face messaging via the mods and design choices, this game could have been serviceable eventually. I never understand why pandering to 5% of your audience and giving the finger to the other 95% seems like a good idea to these people. They never seem to learn. Disney has lost 1/3rd of its value and they keep doubling down on political messaging. I don’t get it.

BlackTar187266d ago

Some of these companies are paid huge amounts of money to do this stuff. They get truck loads of money to give “the message”
By blackrock and vanguards and multiple other venture capitalists even though it’s been proven over and over they fail.
