Why does Capcom suddenly want me to take Resident Evil 4 so seriously?

I see this with other gaming bloggers who describe shorter games as "not outstaying their welcome" which is what Yahtzee famously said about Portal given its 3 hour length, since then I've seen it here and there, although the phrase hardly makes sense which is why I know it was copied.
The idea that RE4 should remain campy instead of a serious horror game is also a bit dumb, seeing as how the campiness was not intentional but just typical Japanese flair. It's fine if they want to make it more a legit horror game like RE 2 and 3 remakes that came before it, they got rid of their bad dialogue from the originals so why not get rid of the silliness and bad dialogue from RE4?

To quote Leon from the remake.. Bull***t. It would have made no difference if they made it super camp as the OG or a little bit more serious the game will still be the same awesome and fun experience, the remake is still campy and fun btw and in perfect dose IMO, they nailed the balance.

It is campy, it just takes ITSELF more seriously. Which I believe is what the writer was getting at.
I’m glad it did to be honest. Easier to get invested in the characters when they aren’t cracking jokes every 10 seconds.
Although I do miss the FaceTime calls from the bad guys from the original lol

That’s like the whole point of remaking the game, apart from modernizing the gameplay. They want to retell the story in a way that fits the tone of the previous remakes, and that’s perfectly fine.

If you want campy elements then just replay the original. I for one am glad that they took a different route this time.

There's a slight difference in the tone, Leon was basically having one hell of a blast in the original, here he still does but taking seriously as well, I always prefer keeping things as they are, but I were to choose between this and a remake that is unrecognizable, I would always pick this

I think RE series remakes are trying to all get in line with a cohesive story and characters. RE4 has done so well Capcom company worth has gone up. I think it safe to assume there will be more RE remakes but question is what's next

A complete remake of RE1 (I know it has been remade once but I am speaking from the point that it will be more like RE2,3&4 remakes or will they go straight to code Veronica or RE5. Personally speaking they should do a complete remake of RE1 and have a separate team do code Veronica

Afterwards do RE5-6 since both could benefit from remakes greatly (especially 6)
