Xbox ends daily Rewards achievement task for non-Game Pass subscribers

If you're not an Xbox Game Pass subscriber, the amount of Rewards Points you can earn each day will soon take a hit as Xbox is moving the 'Achieve More. Earn More' achievement task from the Rewards app to Quests.

Nope, but here we go with the gamepass push. Prices up, features locked behind a paywall, like most of us pointed out long ago. The choice is thus: crap games on a cheap service or day one AA games on an expensive service. The first one hooked people in and now it's time for option two. Enjoy, I guess.

dumahim818d ago

It wouldn't surprise me if at some point they rebrand Xbox as Game Pass instead.

SullysCigar818d ago

^ That's actually not a bad shout. Xbox has negative connotations to some as the barren gaming landscape equivalent to a desert, whereas Gamepass is recognised as great value, up to this point at least. Seeing as GAAS is unfortunately gaining traction, this might serve Microsoft better.

@knush: “Is that consumer friendly?”

Yes it is soooo friendly that’s almost free borderline paying you for it according to a red moldy orchard with 343 acres of lies planted on it

Anyways it was good while it lasted 🤷🏿

darthv72818d ago

Not going to say yes or no because honestly i never used the daily rewards thing anyway. Im not on my xbox daily and even if i were... I earn more points via bing searching than that app provides. I search for stuff all day for my job so I tend to easily get more points and rewards that way than via the xbox app.

BandarHub818d ago

That one was a bit broken as sometimes it would not register properly.
If they are making it gamepass exclusive then that fine because who is not subscribed to game pass.

crazyCoconuts818d ago

Are you looking for a roll call? 🙂

Vengeance1138818d ago

Interesting to know that you are anti-choice, still defending MS for removing options for consumers. Who is not subscribed to GamePass? Millions and Millions of players and no this will not make them switch over.

BandarHub818d ago (Edited 818d ago )

Anti choice? Explain that more because that does not make sense
First of all they removed nothing, they simply more the achieve more quest to the gamepass quest tab.
It's still rewarding people with points for getting achievement everyday.

Vengeance1138818d ago (Edited 818d ago )

@BandarHub

I'll slow it down for you, you said "If they are making it gamepass exclusive then thats fine because who is not subscribed to gamepass."

What you are saying is that its perfectly fine to take extra rewards away because people should be forced to sub to a service they don't want. Thats your reasoning, "its ok because like duhhhh its gamepass" following this logic through you would be perfectly fine with everything under the Xbox umbrella to be exclusive to Gamepass just because you enjoy it while millions of others do not, thus removing players right to choose to not sub to it because over time it just won't be worth ppls time to play on Xbox if they dont.

Removed nothing? They removed rewards for non-gp subscribers, players will now lose out on rewards that they can now no longer access without blindly subbing to a subpar service.

BandarHub818d ago

No one is missing out of the achieve more rewards. First off the rewards, for the other stuff you do earn you significantly more. The 50 points quest you were getting was a small amount and was not registering on the app. The Reward app is made more longer quests.
If the reward is small then that is fair game for it to be moved somewhere else. It was not registering well on the app so they moved it to the more reliable Gamepass Quest which works like a charm.
This whole 'you are being forced' is so overdramatic. No one is pointing a gun at you to subscribe to a gamepass. You can earn rewards in so many other ways such as the reward app, bing rewards and buying from the Microsoft store.
Stop pretending to care about people who do not own gamepass, you do not know the problem that this quest caused when it does not unlock. The people go for the rewards are more likely to already be subscribed to gamepass.

Yep this is just the beginning. They will be increasing the price of gamepass soon. They already did away with the $1 start up loophole. It will be interesting to see how much they will attempt to raise the price. Certainly having COD on gamepass will attract some additional interest, but I wonder how many gamepass users were abusing that $1 a month start up.

BandarHub818d ago

I am gonna say that an absolute minority we abusing that system.
I got on the game pass using £1 offer, but paid monthly ever since at the normal Gamepass ultimate price. I did not see the point as it was too much effort. Also most importantly, every time you do that you are robbing potential revenue that Xbox shares with the developer that put games on Xbox.
Even if they increase the price of gamepass it is worth it.

crazyCoconuts818d ago

Fwiw Xbox pays a fixed amount to the game company as part of the deal, according to things that have been leaked

theindiearmy818d ago

The $1 start up is really negligible at the end of the day and wasn't the real "abusive" part of the deal. The abusive part was loading up on Live Gold for cheap and converting it, which you can still do. It's just now it will cost you $14 more to convert. So instead of saving $345, you're only saving $359. Not a big deal at the end of the day. You're still getting a hell of a deal. That's all if you're paying full price for Gold to begin with. A lot of people aren't and are saving even more.

crazyCoconuts818d ago

The $1 thing was probably more popular for PC gamers.
The Gold conversion is probably more common for Xbox console owners

theindiearmy818d ago (Edited 818d ago )

crazycoconuts, that's probably true, but you can get PC game pass for ~$5 on various sites. Paying $4 more for a month isn't really much difference at the end of the day.

Crows90818d ago

The other system is the Microsoft edge point system. That is the next thing that will be abused by the smart minority.

yarbie1000818d ago

The cuts keep coming. Microsoft played the loss leader to get you in the door. Now they’re gonna make you pay

BandarHub818d ago

It is a quest that they disabled it because it was not registering properly. They are going to add it under another quest.
Talk about over exaggeration.

Hofstaderman818d ago (Edited 818d ago )

Prepping their garden for the casuals to try and get as many of them on GamePass as possible. We tried to warn you guys what would happen if the Activision deal went through…. This is only the beginning.

jznrpg818d ago

Always online , can’t sell used games who knows what else besides price hikes . I’m sure they would love to ditch physical games altogether .

Unknown_Gamer5794818d ago (Edited 818d ago )

Yep, I knew MS were bad news when they tried to push DRM. They’ve always wanted to control the means of distribution. Of course, they had to learn the hard way that they have to be more subtle.

One back door to implementing DRM without backlash is to just push a service, and have games tied to that service, then slowly but surely put more and more into that service and shift your focus towards it, then market the heck out of it and pay off the right people to get the industry to push the narrative that Jesus has returned in the form of a game subscription service, and buying up major publishers so their games can slowly be shifted to being exclusively available on said service. Nope, no cancer here. /s

BandarHub818d ago

It's hilarious that you don't even understand what the silly useless article is about. It is about a quest for the reward program that was not registering properly. So they Axe it and are replacing it with something else.
That reward earned you 50 points as compared to the 5000 points per month you get from doing other rewards.
